One of the worst films ever
moeden-moeds11 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I hardly know where to begin with this thoroughly terrible film. Perhaps the best way to start is to say that I recently saw Trolls 2, which - although replete with shocking dialogue, acting and special effects - was an altogether more enjoyable experience.

Le Petit Poucet is an adaptation of a well-known fairy story. So it's clear that one should suspend one's disbelief whilst watching it. However, it doesn't seem to know quite whether it's depicting total fantasy or reality. For example, the supposedly 'starving' family is composed of boys in rude health; their foraging skills consist of pawing through a mixture of grass and mud (why not use tools to dig? If foraging, why not look for nuts and berries rather than using hands to scrape soil?); only one of the many 'dead' bodies in the film makes a convincing attempt to play dead (the others are all breathing and seem to make little effort to hide it).

The special effects are very crude - particularly the scene inside the giant's stomach - and some of the scenes are simply baffling. The final one with Poucet eating an apple, crying and throwing chunks of meat to the rest of his family who are scrabbling on the floor on their hands and knees is a great example.

I enjoyed Trolls 2 because I knew it was going to be terrible, and comically so. I really didn't like Poucet because it is terrible but there is little comedy in it - just poor acting and weird scenes. The disappointment and bafflement of the audience where I saw the film was palpable.

Please don't watch this film. Learn from the mistake of me and the two poor friends I dragged along with me.

One of those so bad that's funny movies
alex13011 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The writing is not so good and the actors are not so great either. Some are even so bad that it's funny. The environment, the forest, the village and the house, is alright and cute. It does reflect Perrault's story quite well. The soundtrack is not bad and also conveys the incited emotions. The father, the ogre, the sons and the ogre's wives are really bad. Even if it were a theatre play, it still would be terrible. I'm still giving it three stars because I think there was a real effort in trying to make a good movie. The ogre and the father are the worst actors of the movie, they are ridiculously bad. Then, the orgre's daughters are also really bad and can't even play dead properly. The best actor as someone else said is maybe the corpse in town. The boys' mother isn't that bad either. To sum up, there isn't much more to say, it was just bad. It's a fun watch while doing something else that doesn't require to focus too much though.
