Filmed amateur dramatics

Warning: Spoilers
MANIPEDE! is literally a filmed play from an amateur dramatic group based in Burbank, California. As such it has non-existent production values and a very amateurish, non-professional feeling; instead of hearing dialogue sounding natural, it's all about line readings and over-emphasis. The director seems to be going for a celebratory vibe similar to Joe Dante's Matinée, but the end result is tedious in the extreme, the comedy is unfunny, and that rubber head costume is just rubbish.

"Oh, The Irony!"...

A troupe of actors must come up with a plan to save their community theater, before their landlord replaces it with a new mega-mall. Alas, they must come up with $750k or the theater is doomed.

But wait!

If they could just come up with a lucrative plan of their own. Hmmmm...

Eureka! They'll make a movie! Thus, MANIPEDE is born. Can a movie be made for no money, in less than 30 days? In spite of there being no technical knowhow or filmmaking skills?

Is MANIPEDE a cinematic masterwork? Well, no. It's silly and intentionally ridiculous. It's also a lot of fun to watch...
