Having made the festival rounds this year, Bloody Disgusting is excited to share with you an exclusive look at Richard Cunningham III's full-length short film Year Zero. Cunningham III directed, wrote, produced, composed, starred in, and even animated the short that features the voices of Pat Rigby, Tim Brennan, Marie-Pierre Beausejour and Bridget Carroll. "While NYC burns outside, a loner remains trapped in his apartment no less by fear of the Apocalypse, than by the two zombies pounding at his door. After he exhausts his food rations and nearly dies, he must soon decide to confront the horrors of a world void of humanity, or stick with his plan to wait for military rescue." A feature script is in the works taking place in the streets of NYC, after the events of the short.

*Full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Richard Cunningham.
Director/writer: Richard Cunningham III.
"Year Zero" is a zombie or infection themed short, from artist and actor Richard Cunningham (Lycian). The film is set in the "five boroughs" (Year) of New York, where an infection has quarantined one man into his apartment for over thirty-one days; his groaning and blood-thirsty roommate is also trapped in the apartment. To show at the Tribeca Film Festival April 24th, the film element that stands out the most in this film is the beautiful visual form of the short.
"Year Zero," is shot with a camera, to enhance a 3-D effect and the short looks much like a well-drawn graphic novel. The possibilities of this format are utilized by Cunningham to show panic and hunger settling into the main character, only known as the loner (Pat Rigby). The black and white settings,...

Brian S- First off how'd you come up with this unique concept for Year Zero?
Rc- The concept kind of grew with movie. Pat Rigby (who voices the main character) had an idea for a man stuck in his apartment with two zombies, back in 2008. I developed the subsequent story and characters, and continued making changes into editing.

Organisers of the Tribeca Film Festival have announced this year's line-up of 60 short films, 22 of which are world premieres.
The international festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal and real-estate investor Craig Hatkoff to help revitalise Manhattan's Tribeca neighbourhood following the 9/11 terrorist attack.
The 2011 event - presented by founding sponsor American Express - will run from April 20 to May 1. The 60 shorts represent 21 countries, including the UK, and feature stars from around the globe.
In a new development this year, the recipient of the Tff Best Narrative Short award will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Oscars without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with Academy rules.
The short film program, drawn from 2,862 submissions, will be presented in eight thematic programs, which are detailed below.
There is a broad spectrum of styles and storytelling, from zombies taking over Manhattan to the humanitarian effort in Haiti.
