Chapter six of CAPTAINS AND THE KINGS sees the focus shifting from Joseph Armagh (Richard Jordan) to son Rory (Perry King), who knows of his father's ambitions to see the young man someday reach the White House. Rory's romancing of Protestant Marjorie Chisholm (Jane Seymour) is strictly forbidden by his father, who would prefer that he set his sights on the daughter of his Catholic colleague Charles Desmond instead. Meanwhile, Joseph's daughter Anne-Marie is virtually set to wed her uncle Courtney Wickersham, until Joseph spills the beans about Courtney's true parentage, his father being Anne-Marie's grandfather, Tom Hennessey. Things go from bad to worse as Anne-Marie suffers a riding accident that leaves her in a coma, while Joseph welcomes Rory to London for a rendezvous with Claudia Desmond, unaware that his son has already taken Marjorie for his bride.
