The title comes from the Rashomon effect which occurs when the same event is interpreted differently by different people. The term originated as the title of Akira Kurosawa's 1950 film Rashomon.
The Eliot stand-in during Sophie's version of events is played by Riley Smith, who has been the real-life best friend of Christian Kane (Eliot) since they were thirteen.
Since the heist in the episode takes place before the Leverage team is assembled, this is the only episode where the target is one of greed, rather than retribution.
When Beth Riesgraf makes a dollar bill disappear in the shell game, it's actually a practical effect. The bill was crumpled around a ball bearing, and a magnet was attached to the inside of the teacup. When the cup was lifted off the table the bill went with it, held inside the cup by the magnet. To the viewer, it looks as though the bill has disappeared off the table.
