A new family of farmers buys land and raised cattle. However, when one of them is lethargic it is diagnosed with a nasty disease that could kill the whole herd. A calf is stillborn later and this family is really sad. The new vet is showing an amazing lack of sympathy, judging the farmers. Siegfried takes it upon himself to work him through this. Meanwhile, Helen goes to that farm but it is later discovered that human fetus can be destroyed by the disease the cows are carrying. So there is a lot of worry by the Herriots. Once again it is a bit of a contrived episode but shows how people can work together given a chance.
