Channel 4 has commissioned a pilot for a new sci-fi sitcom.
Space Ark - written by Pete Versus Life duo George Jeffrie and Bert Tyler-Moore - follows 200 humans who have survived the destruction of earth.
The pilot will star Georgia King (The New Normal), Tom Stourton (Siblings), Justin Edwards (The Thick of It), Alex Beckett (Twenty Twelve), Ricky Grover (EastEnders) and Nico Tatarowicz (The Armstrong and Miller Show).
A synopsis for the pilot reads: "It's 6 months, 1 week, and 4 days since the earth was destroyed by an asteroid. 200 humans survive on board a huge 'Space Ark'. Their mission? To find a new planet where the human race can be re-established.
"The ship is populated by the finest minds the earth had to offer, plus an inept crew, an android-bear pilot and a member of the public who won his place by lottery.
"In the pilot episode the crew encounter a seemingly friendly alien race,...

Father Ted, The It Crowd and Peep Show are among the classic Channel 4 shows that will be removed from Netflix UK and LoveFilm Instant.
Channel 4's licenses are to expire on both streaming services, according to VODzilla. They will be removed from Netflix on Saturday (February 15), followed a few days later on LoveFilm.
The Inbetweeners, Shameless and Green Wing are said to also be among the longlist of shows to be removed from the services.
The move follows Channel 4's recent removal of content from YouTube, leaving the only option to watch shows on 4oD.
Channel 4 recently said to Wired about the YouTube removals: "As a not-for-profit broadcaster funded by advertising, we put our money back into the programmes themselves. To make the best of this investment, we've decided to focus on bringing online viewers of our full-length shows to our own 4oD apps - such as those on iOS,...

Once the go-to man for feckless losers, Rafe Spall reveals how losing five stone transformed him into a romantic lead in I Give It A Year and turned his career around
Rafe Spall takes me by surprise. I'm expecting a little fella, a bit porky, not much of a looker. And here he is, 6ft 3in, svelte, smart. Over the past few years, Spall has been the go-to man for feckless losers – there's his sports reporter Pete in the TV comedy Pete Versus Life, who will do or say anything to get a girl into bed, the fascist clever-clogs in The Rotters' Club, the drippy Ian in One Day.
But next month Spall will be playing the newly wed Josh in the very funny romcom I Give It A Year. Not only is this his first lead; Spall has reinvented himself as a lean, mean, six-packed machine, a successful novelist,...

With its convoluted nomination process trying to predict what will contend for the BAFTA TV prizes when nominations are announced on April 30 is more of a lottery than with most other award shows. (Winners will be revealed on May 27.) The favorite for Best Situation Comedy is last year's winner "Rev." which stars Tom Hollander and Olivia Colman who are both probable nominees. (See performer contenders report here.) Other frontrunners for top laffer are "Twenty Twelve," "Fresh Meat," "Outnumbered" and "Spy." "Stella" (which could be entered as a drama), "Friday Night Dinner," "Him & Her," "Mrs. Brown's Boys," "Pete versus Life," "Phoneshop" and Ricky Gervais' "Life's Too Short" are longer shots. 1993 champ "Absolutely Fabulous" aired two specials during the eligibility period but may have better chances i...

Holby City has announced the addition of three new regular characters who will debut in May 2012. The BBC One show will first introduce the "charmingly candid and utterly professional" consultant general surgeon Serena Campbell, played by Catherine Russell (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Pete versus Life). Next to join the drama is "cocky and roguish" nurse and transplant coordinator Jonny Maconie (Michael Thomson), who "has no qualms about telling a few white lies to stir up some mischief". Lastly, Dead Set and Campus star Chizzy (more)...

Anton Murphy's eviction from the Big Brother House brought in steady viewing figures for Channel 5 in what was a good overall showing from the broadcaster. In figures almost identical to last week - when Aden Theobald got the boot - the 9pm show averaged 1.6m (6.6%). Some 1.25m (9.3%) stayed on to watch the exit interview. Big Brother's Bit On The Side, during which Anton claimed that Aaron has fooled his way to victory, grabbed a further 580k (6.4%). The other shows in Channel 5's primetime lineup improved considerably. The return of Ice Road Truckers brought in 1.51m (6.4%), and Gavin Henson's The Bachelor upped its game to 1.29m (6.9%) Their performances meant the broadcaster overtook Channel 4, for whom the new series of Pete Versus Life disappointed with 680k (3.4%). Earlier, the stalwart Come Dine With Me entertained 1.28m (5.4%), (more)...

Kill Keith
Stars: Marc Pickering, Susannah Fielding, David Easter, Simon Phillips, Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale, Keith Chegwin | Written and Directed by Andy Thompson
Oddity alert! Sound the quirky alarm! Horror-comedy meets breakfast TV in this low budget gurn-a-thon, which comes across as some sort of unholy mash-up of Morning Glory and Seven. Kill Keith stars Marc Pickering as Danny, a runner on a breakfast programme, who is in love with its charming presenter Dawn (Susannah Fielding – 4.3.2.1., Doctor Who, Pete Versus Life) and wishes to replace the arrogant co-host Cliff (Easter) at her side on the sofa. The programme is called ‘The Crack of Dawn’, in one of the film’s slightly more sophisticated (really) if smuttier jokes.
Unfortunately for Dawn and daytime TV presenters everywhere, the so-called Breakfast Cereal Killer (again, indicative of the level of humour) is at large, bumping off C-list celebs in breakfast-themed ways. Tony Blackburn, Joe Pasquale,...

The Shadow Line actor plays a luckless loser in the adaptation of One Day but admits he's enjoying a 'golden period'
"Someone asked me recently," says Rafe Spall, squinting into the August afternoon sunshine, brow furrowed in earnest, "if I had to 'ugly up' to play the part of Ian in One Day." He pauses, looks at me incredulously, and then guffaws with laughter. "That's just my face! Just me, a wig and a bit of corduroy." It is easy to be believe he had a little help though. As the hapless Ian, the one before The One for Emma Morley in director Lone Scherfig's adaptation of the David Nicholls novel, he is scene-stealingly brilliant. While Jim Sturgess makes a convincing Dexter, and Anne Hathaway – give or take the odd slaughtering of a northern vowel – is a pleasingly palatable Emma, it is Spall, coming up quietly on the outside,...

All the world's a stage? More like all the world's a trailer with coffee-coloured leatherette sofas, carpets and walls, stationed in a suburban car park – the second home of most film and TV actors. And Rafe Spall is a very, very busy actor right now, which is why I find myself interviewing him during his lunch break on the set of the Channel 4 sitcom Pete Versus Life – sitting in his trailer in a car park of an adult education college in Hayes, not far from Heathrow Airport.
