The Devonian period marked the end of age of invertebrates as fish dominated the oceans. Trey provides the latest (2016) updates to the evolution of fish beginning with the placoderms and their eventual king Dunkleosteus. Meanwhile the side branch of cartilaginous fish would eventual displace Dunkleosteus as apex predator and the bony fish would evolve into amphibians which colonized the land.

Paleontologists aren't speculating when they talk about one ancient animal preying on another. They have direct evidence from bite marks of predators on the fossil bones of their prey. And on rare occasions two or more animals died mid-fight and were preserved as fossils.

Eurypterids also know as sea scorpions were a diverse group of arthropods that dominated both salt and fresh bodies of water during the Ordovician Period and some species even ventured onto land. Some resembled true scorpions but were not closely related.

Andrewsarchus is an obvious predator known from a single skull that roughly resembles a very large wolf. But close inspection suggests it is an ungulate (e.g. horses, pigs etc.) most closely related to hippos and whales. Still, it probably looked like a wolf but with hooves.

Many cultures share the story of a multi-headed sea serpent that battles with God and loses perhaps demonstrating the power of God. In the Bible such a creature is referred several times as Leviathan. The are several other reference to Rhab which may be a pseudonym or a similar creature.

In ancient cultures the character, or mythological creature, from which Lilith seems to be derived was a night visitor, female demon, serpent, child thief or in modern language a succubus. She is mentioned by name only once in the Bible in different ways depending on the ancient copy of Isaiah you consult. Then, in the late first millennium Jewish scholars noting the creation of woman from clay in Genesis chapter one and Adam's rib in chapter two attributed the first reference to Lilith and the second to Eve.
