NBC's "Fashion Star" returns for a second season at 8 p.m. Et Friday (March 8) -- but you can see some of the changes to the show in these exclusive sneak peeks on Zap2it.
Louise Roe from The CW's "Plain Jane" hosts the fashion contest showcasing a dozen designers (actually 13, but a duo is counted as one participant). Three mentors who have made it in the fashion business -- John Varvatos, Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson -- mentor the hopefuls.
The difference here is that three stores bid on the designs: Saks Fifth Avenue for the high end, Macy's for the middle market, and Express for the less expensive and younger shopper. And the twist this season is as soon as the buyers for the stores bid on a design, it will be available online.
In the clips, the competition's youngest designer, Daniel Silverstein, explains his complicated design to Richie: "I can drape,...

Introducing the newest Elle Macpherson: Louise Roe.
Ok, so she isn't an Australian model nor does she look much like the blonde stunner. But Roe, a British stylist and TV personality, is taking Macpherson's place on "Fashion Star," stepping into the role of host of NBC's fashion design show.
Macpherson stepped down as host in late June but remains a producer. "As executive producer of Fashion Star I'm really excited by our choice of Louise as host for the second season," the model told Deadline. "I think her presence will energize and surprise."
Although she's no Heidi Klum, Roe is already familiar to America audiences as the host of "Plain Jane," another fashion-themed reality show on the CW. Roe, who is also an editor-at-large at Glamour, acted as host and fairy godmother on the makeover show, transforming young women through clothing and makeup in the show's six episode run.

While the CW is yet to make a decision on a second season of its summer makeover reality series Plain Jane, the show's producer, Sony Pictures TV’s 2waytraffic, is moving ahead with international versions of the show. MTV International has acquired the format rights to Plain Jane and has greenlit an 8-episode English-language version of the reality series with the same title and the same host as the original CW series, Louise Roe, for a fall premiere. The format has also been sold in French Canada to an upcoming specialty channel temporarily named Tva Mode, which has commissioned 16 episodes under the title Le Tresor en Moi to launch in May. Additionally, MTV International, which is airing the original six-episode CW series in the UK, Europe, Asia, and Australia, has picked it up for a number of additional territories. The CW kicked off the unofficial start of the fall season last night with its premieres of America's Next Top Model and new series Hellcats. For CW, it is a challenge to turn on the lights and bring viewers in right away as the network pretty much checked out all summer with repeats and the modestly rated reality series Plain Jane. In its 15th cycle, veteran reality series Top Model (2.9 million viewers, 1.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 18-34) had its lowest-rated premiere ever, down 13% from last fall. New cheerleading drama Hellcats (3.0 million, 1.4 rating in 18-34, 1.2 in 18-49) got off to a solid start, becoming the first series or season premiere on CW or Upn to match or build onto its Top Model lead-in in total viewers and the networks' key 18-34 and women 18-34 demos. (That was helped of course by the fact that Top Model has slipped from its previous highs.

The CW recently debuted their newest reality show called Plain Jane. Each episode revolves around a woman receiving a makeover from British fashion expert Louise Roe. Is the show performing well or does it need a ratings makeover?
Plain Jane debuted on July 28th to poor ratings. The premiere attracted a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 990,000 viewers, ranking in fifth place for the timeslot in both areas. It was even outperformed by its lead-in, a repeat of America's Next Top Model. On a positive note, the audience did grow a bit between Plain Jane's first and second half-hours.
In week two, total viewership grew to 1.15 million viewers but the all-important demo remained the same at a 0.4 rating. This time, the demo rating dropped a bit between the first and second half of the show.

On The CW's new makeover show, "Plain Jane," Louise Roe (who you may remember gave Olivia Palermo a run for her money on MTV's "The City") takes a girl who isn't living up to her potential and transforms her before Roe sets her up with the guy she pines for.
Along the way, Roe not only gives them a physical makeover, but she has them face their biggest fears from swimming with sharks to skydiving (which is on tonight's August 4 episode). Roe says it takes a bit of work to convince the ladies to do those things.
"I make sure they know they can trust me," she tells Zap2it. "And that there's a reason behind it. I'm not just doing it for fun or for cameras. And then I just push."

In the synopsis, it says that Roe is helping this "Jane" to open up and gain the courage to tell her crush how she really feels.
Picked up as a summer filler, "Plain Jane" is about Roe giving average girls a makeover not only on the outside but inside as well. Digital Spy asked the dating expert whether every episode will have a happy ending and Roe said, "You'll have to watch and find out! There is lots of drama, I really can't say any more than that, but it's pretty dramatic. When I'm watching it, there are moments when I am welling up or nervous for them. It's pretty intense."

The reality show - which premiered last night - sees fashion expert Roe guiding Plain Janes through a makeover process which includes a shopping trip, beauty styling and tips on improving their love lives. I don.t often admit this, but I really enjoy certain makeover shows. I say .certain. because there are many that I loathe, like What Not To Wear. I hate how Stacy and Clinton treat people on their show; the two of them are so high and mighty about their fashion knowledge, and they even discard stuff with sentimental value. Not okay. My favorite makeover (and reality) show of all time is Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, because the Fab Five weren.t mean.they joked around sometimes, but they always had the participant.s best interests at heart. It was heart-warming television, at least while it lasted.

Louise Roe in the CW's new show, Plain Jane. On MTV’s The City, English journalist Louise Roe has more than once swooped in to save the day, her fashion-savvy, easy charm and sweet-but-professional demeanor providing a stark contrast to resident villain Olivia Palermo. Louise’s newest role is that of beauty-and-style fairy godmother to the lovelorn on the new makeover show, Plain Jane, premiering tonight on the CW. The show's premise involves Roe coaxing a different girl out of her shell every week, arming each with the beauty tips and confidence to confess her (secret) love for the boy of her dreams. This month, Vf.com asked Roe to divulge what's on her vanity table. Her picks are equal parts classic and cutting-edge, but all with a certain elegance—not unlike Louise herself. Here, her tried-and-true beauty secrets, from morning till night.

The CW's new reality makeover show, "Plain Jane," premieres tonight (July 27), and is hosted by a familiar face: "The City's" Louise Roe.
When we first saw the premiere episode, we were a little bit shocked by the "zapper." It's a device that administers an electric shock whenever the latest makeover subject makes a wrong move with her flirting techniques.
"Every time she mucks up and does something that reverts to her old ways, we give her a quick zap," Roe tells Zap2it. "It's very small! I did try it out on myself beforehand. I get nervous whenever I do it, because I don't particularly enjoy inflicting pain, but it's only a tiny shock."
The first makeover subject is Cristen, or "Friend Zone Jane." She describes herself as a "disaster" who wears pajamas out of the house, is terrified of snails, and has had a crush on her friend Ty for six years.

Louise Roe has said that every woman can relate to her new CW show Plain Jane. The makeover series sees Roe attempting to transform Plain Janes into glamorous and confident women by overhauling their fashion sense, beauty regimes and romantic lives. Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: "We've all had a moment in our lives - at least one - where we have felt like that. "I think that's the universal appeal, whether it's a rejection from a guy, having a crappy hair day, a fat day, a bad clothes day, it's just that time when you just want to be invisible and these girls live their lives like that." I've never hidden the fact that I don't like reality television. In fact, I'm rather vocal about it. However, I have to admit that I Love fashion/makeover/wedding reality shows. Say Yes to the Dress, for example, is a show I could watch every single day. So don't be surprised by the fact that I actually kind of liked the CW's newest summer reality show, Plain Jane.
The set up is fairly simple: stylist Louise Roe will take a plain girl and transform her – giving her a makeover and relationship advice. I've only seen the pilot episode so far, so I'm not certain whether each girl will be pining for a man in every episode, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were the fact. Frankly, the episode was cute. The plain Jane was kind of dorky, but sweet. She had pretty big self-esteem issues, but that's something all...

HollywoodNews.com: British presenter and fashion journalist Louise Roe of MTV’s “The City” admits of her July 28-debuting CW “Plain Jane” reality show, “We’re ridiculously up to the mark. We are still filming. We’re filming ‘til literally four days before it airs. The editors are going to work late at night for sure.”
But despite the last-minute crunch, she’s happy with the show that boasts makeovers “from the inside out. It’s not just a giant shopping trip to Bloomingdales.”
The first episode has Roe even going so far as to employ a hidden dog training electroshock buzzer on a girl, and giving her a jolt each time she falls back into such no-no behavior as slouching and failing to make eye contact. They work up to the big reveal, wherein the girls tell their secret crushes their feelings.

This week, I've got scoop on the new season of gritty cop drama 'Dark Blue,' which star Dylan McDermott promises will be more romantic. Need proof? New star Tricia Helfer in a makeout session with a pair of handcuffs sounds sexy enough to me.
I also toast the return of 'Mad Men,' and get a surprise visit from Sally Draper herself, Kiernan Shipka, who says there'll be comedy and some great moments for her character this season. (Watch until the very end to hear her surprising list of favorite bands.) Then I dish about new makeover/reality dating series 'Plain Jane' with the show's host and fairy godmother Louise Roe, who also has some style tips to share.

At the end of last week's June 15 episode of "The City," it seemed that Erin Kaplan's new Elle.com hire, Louise Roe, was getting along with Olivia Palermo just fine. We're thinking that's not what Erin had in mind when she brought Louise on board.
Of course, Olivia got along fine with Whitney Port in the beginning as well, and we all know how that ended. So will Louise and Olivia continue to work together peacefully?
"That's where I say you'll just have to watch and find out," Louise Roe tells Zap2it, choosing her words very carefully. "Here's what I will say. Olivia has always been nothing but polite and pleasant to my face."
Of course, Olivia is a hot topic for every cast member on the show - everyone from Whitney to Erin has clashed with her. "I mean, she's got the most incredible style. That's me...

Since its conception four years ago, The CW has become a powerful network driven by the viewers. Their ability to blend new media with television has allowed them to directly tap into their demographic of women 18-34. Last year was a strong year for The CW thanks to the uber popular The Vampire Diaries (TV), the pop culture magnet Gossip Girl (TV), and the rest of their scintillating dramas. The CW upfront presentation was held at the Madison Square Garden Theater where over 2,000 plus advertising execs were on hand, ready to be dazzled by the power of The CW. The event officially kicked off with a surprise mini-concert from Katy Perry who sang "Hot n Cold" along with her new hit "California Gurls," which also happens to be the new CW summer anthem. Before the 2010-2011 lineup was introduced and the stars of the series came out on stage, audience...
