Charming Musical Kids Will Remember
cte186 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As you may already know this isn't really a movie or a clip show, it's a musical with an added story of Pooh finding his song in the Hundred Acre Woods. It's a simply fun charming musical featuring old Winnie The Pooh songs from The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, The New Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, and with some new musical numbers included that come with the product. Most of the animation is recycled footage from previous Winnie The Pooh productions but it's alright. There is some new footage animated in the 1999 version in television quality and even the whole room in the beginning is produced in CGI with a butterfly leading each part of the pages. There's even a draw along bonus segment where Gopher shows how to draw Winnie The Pooh with a live action setup tutorial. Other than that the voice performances do pretty well for the singing, not much is archived footage and we hear new talents from Jim Cummings and Ken Sansom, however Piglet and Eeyore are noticeably different, I don't know why John Fielder and Peter Cullen weren't able to reprise their roles for this direct-to-video musical, but kids won't care. There are also times when you notice voice actors switching for one character mainly with some audio from previous Winnie The Pooh productions with like Jim Cummings speaking as Tigger but then Paul Winchell singing "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" and even "Nothing's Too Good For a Friend" which does seem strange. But since the animation is also mixed up it somehow works most of the time. And whenever a song is being sung there of course are lyrics onscreen incase the mixed voice fusion ever muffles out. But anyway, it's a simply nostalgic VHS musical that mostly does what it should.

Never gets old...

Winnie the Pooh has always been a big part of my childhood, and I have a big soft spot for it now. And I still love Sing Along Songs: Sing a Song with Pooh and Piglet Too. The animation is a nice mix of the classic animation from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh to the newer style of Piglet's Big Movie, and no matter whether it was 35 years ago or 10 throughout it is very colourful and elegant. The music is a delight, like the animation it is a mix of classic, with Heffalumps and Woozles and Wonderful Thing About Tiggers, and new, with Sing Ho For the Life of a Bear and With a Few Good Friends, and the cute melodies and droll lyrics again make for catchy, pleasant listening. Kangaroo Hop is also great fun. This Sing along also has a story, with Pooh on a search for his song. This story is very heartwarming and maintains the childhood innocence that is so lovable about Winnie the Pooh today. Right from cute Piglet to hilarious Tigger, the characters are engaging and voiced beautifully. And for anybody into DVD extras and like to be educated and entertained, look no further than Word Time, very cleverly constructed and wittily written. Overall, fantastic, one of the best Disney Sing alongs by far and still fresh even after watching it over and over. 10/10 Bethany Cox
