Cena saves this...
Staley67-028 March 2024
Thanks to Cena this movie is a worth a watch. Some of the other actors had a one or two lines that were kind of funny but Cena steals the show proving he can do comedy as well as anyone and certainly better than his wrestling counterpart The Rock. Some of the jokes fall short or even seem a little lame but Cena did a good job keeping this interesting and made me want to keep watching. I will say that Zac Efron wasn't too bad either and he's come along way since that Hairspray movie proving he can do more than just sing. Don't go in with high expectations and you won't be disappointed. 6 stars.

Surprisingly funny

Warning: Spoilers
Are you ready for a funny feel good movie? Well this is it a really good and funny movie that delivers a sweet message in a comedic way. John Cena did well and his performance was fulfilling and very funny. The movie reminded me of the good old funny movies we used to watch and love. The characters played in this movie are absolutely gorgeous and the jokes were funny not forced funny but funny.

We need more of such movies and I don't know why but I remembered Horrible Bosses 1 not 2 you know the movie that tells a story in a funny way and you don't feel that you lost time watching it and this is what this do it makes you smile. Go watch it.

Suspend disbelief and laugh.
xkgbtzh7 March 2024
Is this a goofy over the top premise that takes way too much leeway with what our imaginations can do? Yes. Is it funny? Yes. I'm a 90's kid. This is one of those films that I would watch a few times when I rented it at Hollywood Movies. It isn't great, but it's good. It wasn't a waste of my time, and I love the cast. I hope that everyone involved is happy with this product, cause it made me happy.

Obvious problems were mentioned earlier. You have to seriously forget how much tightrope walking that the characters have had to do (their whole lives) to make this whole thing happen.

Good parts are that there is actually well written skits. John Cena is just ham enough to make the second main character and comic relief a true treat. There are jokes fired pretty rapidly if you sit back with this one.

I liked it. If there is a switch in you that can turn off the ultra serious, watch this. If not, stay far away. This isn't an Oscar movie, and no one is Marlon Brando. It's a 6/10 movie.

15 years ago this would have been your average comedy but now in the age of depressive dramedies and unfunny pc comedies it ranks as one of the best...sadly. Finally I got to actually have a few laugh-out-loud moments while watching a comedy instead of crying a few tears during some of the recent horrible comedies.

It has been some 10 years since they released a full length comedy with more than one lol scenes and to be honest this one is not even really that good when compared to the golden age of comedies from the 1980s up until late 2000s. OK, I must admit that Good Boys in 2019 was pretty funny and made for TV mockumentaries Tour de Pharmacy and 7 Days In Hell were really funny but these were huge exceptions. Sad days we live in...

Finished a little too quick for my liking. But Very Funny And Worth Your Time
MK-RatingsAndReviews8 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
When watching the scene at the bar with Wes and Dean, near the end of the movie. I felt like I missed something. Then in the next scene when Erin showed up to confront Dean, I definitely felt a little lost. I could feel that they cut down on Erin's storyline of her confirming her suspicions and handing over the story on Stanicky.

Had there been a scene of the MBSNC confronting Stanicky and then quick cutting to the bar scene. That would have been enough to fill the logic gap of everything that comes at the viewer, following the bar scene. Still would have liked another scene of Erin investigating Stanicky to tie up any continuity stuff. Otherwise near perfect movie.

Well pobody's nerfect, but this definitely makes the cut for being funny and sweet in a demented way. And by that I mean to say, I really enjoyed watching it. On a side note, Efron and Cena really seemed to have come up in the comedy game. Farrelly puts together a perfect cast and the movies antics and story hooks you right away.

Would really like to rewatch this as an extended or directors cut. And were this 2014 maybe the bluray would have one. As it's 2024 and this film is paid for by prime member subscriptions, who can say if this will ever get an extended version, or a blu ray. But good Comedy's are the rarest of movie breeds and this is a good one.

Ricky Stanicky
tmcmaster-6751215 March 2024
I know this is a dumb movie. I know no one in it is all that great of an actor. I know a lot of people will say it's awful and a waste of time & been there done that but I throughly enjoyed it and laughed quite a bit.

Now while not being the best film obviously it's only a 6/10 but I couldn't help but laugh my butt off anytime John Cena was on screen. The actors had great chemistry also.

Peter Farrelly can sure still make quality comedy films even if they are childish and crude. It's still pretty crazy to think the man who made this film won an Oscar for Best Picture.

All in all I laughed a lot and John Cena is a national treasure. While not great in anyway still a funny movie if you want to laugh check it out.

Ricky Stanicky, The guy who wanted to change the world!
rohanumpleby-3405731 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Ricky Stanicky has some very good actors, I Like Zac Efron, and he didn't disappoint. And also had John Cena, who I thought was excellent and really delivered. Probably, his best performance. The film wasn't quite up to par with the quality of the performances, it was quite predictable. However, I still found the film to be pretty funny.

Ricky Stanicky is a fake person, made up by 3 guys, 2 who have wifes, and the other who's gay. This becomes a bit of a theme later on, just like the group of friends who say "To Ricky Stanicky, the Guy who doesn't exist". I love how the 3 cause trouble but they blame it on someone else, heck, they even put a house on fire at the start.

The Relationships of the group is always on and off, because the couples eventually caught them out for lying. And that's one of the themes, there's a message here, it's better to tell the truth then to lie, sort of. As the 2 wife's seem to tell them, and this leads to some odd interactions, especially right near the end just before the Credits roll-up, which is quite funny.

Ricky, played by John Cena is the key ingredient to all the guys troubles. And as an actor, he plays the guy of Ricky. On the Sunday for a celebratory party they are having, to mark the 5th anniversary of Ricky's cancer virus, which had gone. And he is usually hated and a drug addict. Singing in restaurants and bars and getting paid little attention. But, he wants to change. And therefore, changes his name to Ricky.

Ricky helped out lots of people, all around the world, and Ricky wanted to actually prove he did it. So he goes and helps those who are in desperate need of help, and who wants some support. He is very honest and very kind to everybody and completely changes his ways, just like my title page suggests. And we see a few snippets of the people he's helped. And managed to create some kind of happiness.

I would say for me personally the film did drag a little threw the middle, but on the whole the pacing of the film is fairly reasonable, for the most part. And does add some good insights on Ricky before he became very popular and changed his ways. It's a very good contrast that this film had. Also the sets were very beutiful throughout the film, very layered and detailed and that definitely added to the story.

Would I recommend this film?,

Yes, but don't watch it if you don't like Vulgar scenes.

Hilarious!
joshbernardy138 March 2024
To be honest, I hadn't heard anything about this movie so I went into it with zero expectations. I've always been a big Andrew Santino fan so I gave this a shot. Boy am I glad I did! It's down right hilarious! I've never really been a fan of the big tough guy wrestler turned actor.. I.e. John cena, but I have to say: he knocks this one out of the park. Every scene he's in had me laughing until my stomach hurt.

If you came into this expecting a masterpiece, it might not be for you. However, if like me: you didn't know what to expect, you may end up pleasantly surprised. I'll definitely watch it again. Rating: 7/10.

So half baked.

The actors are pretty great, no fault there, but the writing and plot of the movie is absolute trash. Please dont waste your time on this one, there are better ways to spend a hour and change.

Its just wildly incomprehensible, from the way they conceptualized a 'fake person', to the all liked 'guy' that Cena plays.

Its like a 2010's misguided comedy met 2023 and took a zanax. I honesty felt as thought the director and editor were nodding off in the middle of it. I haven't witnessed such a lack of charisma in a long time, again, the actors doing their best with a nap of a script.

Is this a tax write off movie?

Probably. Don't waste your time.

It's not funny. At all.
ShloneN15 March 2024
Was expecting this to be decent maybe 6/10 territory given the actors and director but was pretty shocked to find out there is actually no humor in this film.

The main comedic effort would come from Cena, who plays an erotic singer but all he has to offer are bland wiener jokes. Maybe if I'd never seen a comedy or was 12 it would be funny but it's a huge miss for me now.

The Kevin Heart movies on Netflix are actually funnier than this to give you an idea about how bad it is.

Not sure what's happened to Farley since he was once a comedy great but this film was so safe and lame I'm shocked it came from him.

Formulaic but surprisingly funny
roxlerookie8 March 2024
This won't win awards but the script is actually pretty funny. Towards the end they really spin it into a nice redemption story, it's done well.

Cena is impressive. He truly is a good comedic actor, and his self deprecating humor gives it a nice depth.

I laughed several times.

Was fun to see stand up comedians Andrew Santino and Jeff Ross in there, both on point.

Zac Efron may ironically be the least convincing of all. Not sure what happened to his face but he lost all youthfulness and it was odd to see. He didn't do a bad job though, owing to the whole story hinging on him.

Watch the credits until the end for an epic TikTok video.

Surprisingly funny!
fcooper0117 March 2024
Was excited to watch 'Stanicky' and then the beginning had me fearing I was wrong. "Oh no.. another frat-like outdated comedy" I thought. But to give it a fair shake we kept watching, and found ourselves laughing a witty lines, an unlikely hero, and all around oddly heartwarming flick. A fun watch with a completely open mind. I would say it's definitely a college age comedy, but it bold it in subject matter to take in a rather ludicrous premise. This could have easily been a hard flop, but it was decent with a relentless lean into comedy with John Cena. I have to applaud his commitment to comedy.

Horrible
scopelyynrs18 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Seems like the producers and writers just browsed what was popular on reddit and social media forums and made a movie trying to include all of the "Popular" topics. I really don't even watch new movies anymore. All have some kind of agenda within it's scripts. The whole premise of the movie would have been entertaining without all the extra modern Hollywood immaturity and B. S included.

I love stupid comedies (Not another teen movie/ American Pie/ Adam Sandler Oldies/ Wayans Bros Oldies) But this movie is just plan childish and unfunny.

I was over it once I seen the characters lie about "Ricky" having cancer to go to Vegas. How is that funny? Simply sick and dark. They should've got hit by a car at the end for that B. S.

I really hate how movies are made with the climax at the middle/end. It's just so stupid and predictable. You literally know what's going to happen. They are going to create a lie and get caught and have to explain and get forgiven... that's the Hollywood climax formula. You've seen one, you've seen them all.

Getting to a place where I want to create my own movies/books/music/scripts. Tired of waiting for someone else to create entertainment for me. I could of did a much better job with this script instead of making a bunch 45 year old men act like middle schoolers.

I would suggest you pass on this movie and start creating your own scripts/movies/books. I'm sure what you create would be 100x better than what Hollywood is producing nowadays.

Funny and simple entertainment
martingreen-7183510 March 2024
Ricky Stanicky is a fun movie to watch, if you want to sit back, relax, laugh out loud without being challenged with any complex plots.

The plot is fairly unique, but seems all to familiar with the number of goofy and cringeworthy scenes throughout this movie.

To me the overall quality of the acting was just good enough, but thankfully Ricky was able to deliver a standout performance, which based on his character was somewhat of an achievement.

John Cena playing Ricky saved this movie, and although he can be a little typecast in his roles, he actually delivers a great performance here.

Lets not kid ourselves, this movie is not going to achieve any awards, but what it does is deliver light hearted comedy with a feel good factor thrown in.

If you take this movie for what it is, you will be entertained, just don't expect much more.

Fun light popcorn movie
sgalleguillosv8 March 2024
It's a fun movie to watch with your girlfriend on a Saturday night. Even though is not memorable, John Cena steals the show. He's got great timing and delivery. I always thought his comedic work wasn't the best, but he proved me wrong this time. The guy can do comedy, and very very well.

The key here is low expectations. I'm a huge Bill Macy fan from this work on Shameless. Also, Zac Efron has been doing some great work, specially with Iron Claw. I imagine some people might be disappointed by these roles they picked, but again, low expectations is key. This is the John Cena show, and he excels at that, while the rest of the cast work as a platform for him to shine.

Don't take it too seriously, just enjoy it for what it is .

Silly Fun
eoinageary20 March 2024
Absolutely ridiculous, I liked it.

The story is of 3 childhood friends who create a friend named Ricky who takes the blame for anything they would get in trouble for, Ricky follows them into adulthood as they still use him to get out of things with their families. When Ricky must appear in person, the boys hire a crude actor from Atlantic city to play the role of Ricky.

The movie is light, it's an easy watch for sure, the acting is good, some dialogue is patchy but overall fine.

The jokes are quite funny, John Cena carries this movie his comedic timing is very good and his chemistry with anyone on screen is great. The 3 main friends are also good, such a random mix, the movie has a solid cast !!

Silly comedy, sometimes that's needed, when your in that mood is recommended giving this a go, 6.5/10.

retro Farrelly and leading man Cena
ferguson-67 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Greetings again from the darkness. Honesty is the best policy. At least that's the lesson we were taught growing up. What we learn as we get older is that very few adhere consistently to that policy, and in fact, many pride themselves on an ability to mislead. On "Seinfeld", George Costanza stated quite succinctly, "It's not a lie if you believe it." Sadly, far too many are able to believe the web of lies they spread. But then, this film is from writer/director/producer Peter Farrelly, a double Oscar winner for GREEN BOOK (2020), and best known for the zany comedies he co-directed with his brother Bobby, including DUMB AND DUMBER (1994) and THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY (1998). If any filmmaker can make lying funny, it should be a Farrelly brother.

The film starts where it should ... by showing us the childhood prank that led to the recurring lie. It's Halloween night and three buddies decide to prank the house that never gives out candy. The prank goes terribly wrong, and the imaginary Ricky Stanicky gets blamed, allowing our three young heroes to escape their first mess and setting the stage for 20 years of alibis. As adults, Dean (Zac Efron, fresh off his superb turn in THE IRON CLAW), JT (Andrew Santino), and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) continue to use their make-believe friend as a reason to take yet another boys' trip away from wives and partners and jobs and responsibilities. To ensure their stories stay straight, the men update "the bible", which is a chronology of the Stanicky lies they crafted over the years.

The latest Stanicky tall tale involves cancer and a trip to Atlantic City for a concert ... a trip that allows JT to skip the baby shower his wife has planned. Circumstances being what they are, the trip is cut short, but before they leave, their paths cross with a hard-raunch celebrity impersonator with the stage name Rock Hard Rod (John Cena). Soon, the boys are calling Rod to play the role of Ricky Stanicky so that friends and family can meet the legend in the flesh. The rest of the movie involves the sometimes hilarious, sometimes not, shenanigans of Rod becoming Ricky Stanicky. As with most lies, things get more complicated and convoluted with each passing moment.

"The best friend we never had" becomes a complex challenge that threatens to ruin all relationships and careers. William H Macy plays Summerhayes, an old school businessman and boss to Dean and JT. Macy plays it straight here, but his 'air guitar' with an unfortunate Farrelly twist makes for a comical segment - as does Summerhayes' evolving thoughts on Stanicky, who by this time, has charmed (and tricked) all whom he's met and even cleverly overstepped at the Bris for JT's baby. Dean's wife Erin (Lex Scott Davis) is a reporter and sees Stanicky as her ticket to a better gig. It's a bit sad that Ms. Davis has the only female role with any substance here.

Sir Walter Scott wisely commented, "Oh, what a tangled web we weave." Director Farrelly, working with a throwback comedy script from too many writers to name here, manages to find the humor in serial dishonesty, while also pointing out that the above-mentioned web is almost certain to nab the perpetrator(s) in the end. Farrelly also manages to check most of the PC boxes, while also showering us with his trademark inappropriateness. However, it's John Cena's energetic performance that shines here and keeps the film clicking along after a somewhat slow start. Cena proves he can carry a comedy.

Available on Prime Video beginning March 7, 2024.

John Cena is the saving grace in this otherwise lackluster comedy.
Peter Farrelly's Ricky Stanicky is a painfully unfunny comedy, squandering a somewhat interesting premise for a comedy of errors. An amazingly over-the-top performance from John Cena saves the film from being a complete slob.

A familiar plot, largely unlikeable protagonists and worn-out rehashed jokes about masturbation and poop are the stand-outs of Ricky Stanicky. While there is a glimmer of a dramatic emotional core to Cena's character, Rod, it is glossed over so quickly and abruptly that it fails to have a lasting impact.

The film is able to get some laughs, thanks to some hilarious jizz-jams and cum puns, delivered with impeccable comic timing by Cena. The remainder of the actors, though, are staggeringly uninteresting and unfunny.

I'm rating higher as it's filmed in Victoria Australia with some great Aussie greats and that they are joined by some American greats. I'm glad that Australia can show that we have some good talents here and glad that Americans are happy to come "down under" and "play" with us ha ha

Now the movie itself is a typical up/down "feel good" type script with some predicatable jokes but all up it's a no brainer for a lazy afternoon watch.

Cena is clearly more than brawn he has done some good parts and this one he plays well.

Give it a go and I hope the Americans like our Heather Mitchell and various others that played it well.

Farrelly back to silly edgy comedy - and it works (for the most part) - very funny
danieljfarthing8 March 2024
Director Peter Farrelly reverts to his silly edgy comedy base with "Ricky Stanicky" - which COULDA flunked but for some great one-liners (from Farrelly & five co-writers) and John Cena being on fire. Three pre-teen pals make-up the titular 'friend' to blame shenanigans on... continuing to do so as adults Zac Efron, Andrew Santino & Jermaine Fowler (inc to their boss William H Macy) - but when cornered into needing him to show at a family event, they have drunk Atlantic City 'adult entertainer' Cena play him... and events escalate! It's low-brow fare with flat moments, but particularly when Cena's on-screen the ol' laugh-out-loud Farrelly magic is there. Very funny stuff.

Story and opinion:
o_oraculo8 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Story: 3 kid are friends and make up a fake name to get out of a problem they had.

When they grow up they are still using it. They get out of a baby shower by pretending this fake person has testicular cancer, and that they need to go see him in the hospital. But they actualy go to party in Atlantic City.

They meet an actor that does raunchy shows.

They find out that the wife that was pregnant got into labor, so they rush back.

She already delivered, and the mother in law thinks the fake person is fake, so the friends hire the actor to pretend to be the fake person at the bris of the baby.

He's kind of a loose cannon, but does a great job. The friends are impressed, but happy he's leaving.

Except the boss of two of the friends hires him because he was so impressed with his personality.

Also, the wife of one of the friends wants to do a big news segment on him.

The friends try to get him fired, so he'll leave, but he does a great job.

In a heated argument, one of the friends tells the actor that he is unwanted, and that he is going to tell the truth.

It seems like everything is going to go bad for the friends, but the actor's life and his relationship with the friends is revealed in such a positive spin that everything turns out great for everyone.

Opinion: there's good and bad in the movie.

The good: jeff ross, the premise, the good hearted actor character.

The bad: most of the humor was targeted for complete morons, the lazy writing, the misuse of andrew santino's comedic talents, the choice of protagonist, the lack of personal accountability for the main characters.

Typical Hollywood Diversity Formulaic Hogwash!!
champneys-674-17061212 March 2024
I am so sick and tired of Hollywood picking actors based on diversity checkboxes instead of choosing people based on their actual skills, chemistry and charm.

Even the actors that had celebrity pull failed to entertain. The filmed lacked cohesion, chemistry and the acting was woeful.

How this film had an average viewer score of 6 is beyond belief. If I could have given this film a negative rating I would.

There is essentially nothing I could glean from this film on a positive note, with the exception of the end.

It was the most tedious comedy (if you could call it that), I have endured in a long time.

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be
schuwomann9 March 2024
15 minutes in I was still skeptical, but it grew on me as I probably should have known it would, given the fact that a Farrelly is involved. It's no Me, Myself & Irene (after all, Jim Carrey isn't in this one), but it has a certain charm of its own. You really have to have a rather immature sense of humour (and be gutter-minded) to enjoy this movie. Thankfully, I do and am, and it also helps to have copious quantities of certain substances on hand while watching this movie. I laughed out loud several times. As others have noted, it really is John Cena who steals the show. Bill Macy is good, too. Overall, I think anyone who enjoys Farrelly movies won't regret watching this one. I sure didn't.

Got some genuine laughs
tcain812329 March 2024
If you don't really care about the plot of a movie and just want to laugh and forget your worries this was a fun time. Definitely cementing Cena further in comedy for me. The plot was super thin to me and I decided not to worry about it and have a good time. Honestly, the most diverse cast i have ever seen in a movie. I feel like everyone was represented and with no fanfare. They were jut there and everything was normal. I did not expect that from a comedy with this level of masturbation jokes. Genuinely at points you would forget the rest of the cast was there. Not, because they weren't also good but, because John Cena was great.
