Just a Piece of Something Larger

This would appear to be a part of a much larger story. Chris Black must have much more about him that needs to be known. Apparently, the police fore of LA has some pretty amazing weapons to fight "crime." Black has his own powers and yet he doesn't really understand why they are in pursuit. We can draw our own conclusions, of course. This is a slick production but without a lot of foundation material, it is much like an old Ray Bradbury story that had the same plot.

Where's the context?

It's the same thing we see in Marvel and other action films. I have seen such parts in many feature films. I would be better if had some introduction to what was happening, but for that we needed a full length film.

It's made by a director who has directed some feature films. I believe they could have done it better.

Would have been decent as part of a full feature, but as a standalone film it's not really working Warning: Spoilers
"The Raven" (no connection to Edgar Allen Poe this time) is an American English-language live action short film from 2010. It is one of the more recent efforts by Peruvian writer and director Ricardo de Montreuil and runs for six minutes only, so a really short film. It is basically the story of an entire city, oh well actually just the invisible forces that rule it, chasing a young man known as Chris Black / The Raven. we see how he tries to flee from a drone, but it will be a long path to safety for sure. So yeah, this is science-fiction at its most frequent. Solid effects and a good watch visually, but story-wise it has more than just a few holes, even for such a brief movie. There seems to be still the premise of this one being turned into a long movie by de Montreuil, but it's far from safe to say it will ever happen. we just have to wait and see I guess. If it does, then I hope they will come up with the right characters and explanations and additions as the way it turned out here, there are just too many questions unanswered that eventually turn this into a very forgettable style-over-substance watch. Sure, it is always tough to fit into such a short film, but it can be done with the right approach. Here it wasn't and that's why I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended.

a mix of Sci. Fi. and dark utopia. a hero against a dictatorship. and his special gift. the film is far to have a clear/coherent story. but it has great special effects, good moments and references to "1984", cartoon heroes and the fear about the control of state under the society in the name of fight against terrorism. and, without be real remarkable, it is a decent short film. interesting for suggestions than for story itself. but, this could be a reasonable motif to see it.
