Jake Gyllenhaal will lead the voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ next film, a journey to an alien planet called “Strange World” from “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Big Hero 6” director Don Hall, and Disney on Monday released the first teaser trailer for the new film.
The teaser is a campy, retro newsreel style look at the film that even starts in a sepia tone and tells audiences to “prepare themselves for a journey beyond what is possible.”
Jake Gyllenhaal in “Strange World” lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission.

Roberto Minervini, an Italian-born Texas-based documentarian, former punk band singer and It technician, is known for spending months or years building connections and trust within communities as he films their lives.
Shooting handheld himself, filming without cutting until data cards are full and he can no longer hold up his Arri Amira camera, Minervini is seemingly obsessed with what he calls his responsibility to create “a sacred space…for them to be who they are. That’s who I am as a filmmaker.”
His controversial 2015 film “The Other Side” chronicles the lives of “people on the outs, poor, dealers, criminals, then the militias.” The young white males that populate the back roads of Louisiana and Texas are in a place Minervini relates to, he told Ji.hlava docu film fest director Marek Hovorka in a masterclass at the 24th edition of the Czech Republic’s leading non-fiction film event.

“Project Z” will be introduced to buyers for the first time at the Cannes market by REinvent. Sf Studios will be releasing the movie in Scandinavia.

His father left shortly after Joe's birth and Joe changed his surname to Flanigan after John Flanigan, his step father who adopted him. Joe spent most of his childhood at a ranch near Reno, Nevada when his family relocated there when he was aged 6. Joe attended boarding school in Ojai, California at 15. Here he had the lead role in the school production of A Streetcar Named Desire, where he played Stanley Kowalski. After he graduated high school, Joe attended the university of Colorado. Here he read for a history degree and starred in the production of Coriolanus. Joe was seen as shy (hard to believe now) and was told by a friend to take up acting as a means to alleviate his timidness. Said Joe, "At one point in college,...

SyFy might be slashing and burning their lineup of science-fiction serials (buh-bye Eureka and Sgu), but they're still going strong with their creature features. Over the years, the Maneater Series has brought us such treasures as Yeti, Wyvern, Behemoth, Ferocious Planet, Hybrid, Carny, and many more. Is it the best science-fiction has to offer? Well, no, but it's dumb entertainment that lets you grab some popcorn for a Saturday afternoon of fanged/tentacled/clawed bliss. Next in the line of monstrosities is Roadkill, starring Kacey Barnfield (Resident Evil: Afterlife), Eliza Bennett (Inkheart), and Stephen Rea (The Crying Game). Need more carnage in your weekend features? Keep reading to find out how you can win a copy of Roadkill on DVD.

Medium Raw aka Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf is a Canadian shot horror film. This feature was shown on television in 2010, with Anchor Bay Entertainment set to release this title on DVD August 16th. The film retells the ancient German legend of Little Red Riding Hood with a twist. Horror is always great for twist endings. Actor John Rhys-Davies is under utilized in his role and the updating of this children's tale is enhanced by the costume department. As well, Medium Raw introduces not one villain, but four. This is a slow building horror title, with some interesting action sequences in the final scenes.
This is the second film which has offed actor John Rhys-Davies in the first quarter of the film. The other film was Ferocious Planet (2011) and here Rhys-Davies plays Elliot Carbon.

As one of Syfy’s made-for-tv monster movies, Ferocious Planet should have your expectations pretty low going in, especially if you happened to tune in for Behemoth. Starting with the science experiment gone wrong premise, Ferocious Planet takes a band of scientists, military men, and bureaucrats to an alternate dimension’s Earth where gigantic creatures with acidic blood rule the planet. Can they survive the elements and deadly creatures? Can they repair their portal-generating McGuffin? Will they make it back to their own reality?
If you just based quality off the premise, you’d have a solid 88 minutes of Sci-Fi goodness. Unfortunately, for a movie to work it also has to have characters, they’re probably going to talk a bit, and a few things will happen to them to drive the story along. This holds true in Ferocious Planet, and because of that it’s pretty pitiful. By normal...

This Ferocious Planet DVD is another one of the movies that debuted on Syfy first. The trip to an alternate universe stars Joe Flanigan (Stargate: Atlantis)who gets zapped with a group of people to a different dimension and they find out they’re not alone.
The movie also stars John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) who plays a snobby know-it-all politician (we all love them don’t we) and Catherine Walker who all find out they have company in this new land they’ve “crash landed” in. There is some weird looking CGI dinosaurs who look like they might have some Predator DNA in them and are mad as hell, also don’t mess with their eggs because you will be running miles while these things chase you! We get plenty of gory and bloody madness which is a must in any creature feature or monster movie!

My biggest pet peeve with film critics is a majority of them review horror films through the same glasses with which they review Oscar contenders. They stand films like The Descent and Piranha 3D up against No Country for Old Men and The Social Network and declare them inadequate rather than do the logical thing, which is to compare them against fruit of the same origin (i.e., how does Piranha 3D stack up against other successful horror films?). Well, in the realm of the creature feature genre, Piranha 3D stacks up pretty well.
It’s time we do the same with the Syfy Original Movie. Instead of comparing Sharktopus to Humanoids from the Deep (1980) and Tentacles (1977), how does it compare to Abominable , which premiered on the network? Yeah, Ryan Schifrin didn’t make Abominable as a Syfy Original Movie, but there is no denying it was made on a...

B-movie staple John Rhys-Davies briefly brings his British (um... southern) accent and holier than thou attitude to Ferocious Planet as an American Senator with an interest in otherworld dimensions in Saturday's Syfy classic-in-the-making. Sharing the screen as the reluctant, ornery and hotter than hell hero is Joe Flanigan. It's sure good to see him back in the realm of science fiction, where he fits so gloriously well.

The SyFy Network will take viewers into parallel dimensions with Ferocious Planet April 9th. Here, characters and sci-fi fans will find monsters roaming a heavily forested locale, where few escape sharpened teeth and talons. Looking very much like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Ferocious Planet involves seven story behemoths and smaller spiked killers terrorizing a group of scientists. So, break-out your best Survivor skills, as this action adventure thriller steals this show's tagline with: "the team must use ingenuity and courage to outwit, outplay and outlast the native man-meating creatures." I'm probably encroaching on Foy territory with this story, but after all his live tweeting last night during the Oscars, I figured he could use a break. Syfy's The Other Side, which we first told you about several months ago, has been given a new name - Ferocious Planet - and a release date of April 9th.
Ferocious Planet was written by Douglas G. Davis (Carny) and stars John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Joe Flanigan ("Stargate: Atlantis"), and Chris Newman ("Love Is the Drug"). Interestingly enough, there's no info on the director ... not exactly what you'd call a good sign. In any event, check out the synopsis and trailer below, and look for more soon.
Synopsis:
It was a groundbreaking device designed by a brilliant physicist to glimpse alternate universes. But the machine malfunctioned on its first presentation, transporting a group of observers into a nightmarish new dimension.
