*****Way Way Way Too slow to the point i decided cutting my eyelids off would be more interesting

Warning: Spoilers
Dear god what happened here? i read up about it how 4000 people helped fund the film and all the different locations the story sounded interesting the actors looks plausible a done deal welcome to Hollywood..Err not quite! i sat down with my wife and as we don't watch that many films now a days as we watched them all years ago i thought this sounds a decent film, so on it came with an Italian guy speaking in Italian good job my wife is Spanish as she translated it all, what he was saying sounded interesting and after what seemed like a year before he stopped talking and the film started (He talked way too long), we watched & we watched & we watched there was one thing missing any signs of movement? it was just actors talking and talking and not an ounce of action? i mean i didn't expect a Die Hard film as it was never going to be one but when actors are basically just talking and talking and there is nothing interesting happening..THEN it happened a shot in the woods where a return module/rocket with one man inside had just landed it was red hot it had just entered the earths atmosphere so you couldn't go near it until it cools down fire all around it BUT WAIT! an actor just opens the side hatch with his bare hand? Maybe he was from another film like Iron Man and he has super strengths & cant feel any pain? then there is the point they are all supposed to be Russian and yet are clearly English! it lost a lot of interest from me when they made this decision and they should of had Russian actors either dubbed over or subs it just wasn't original for me! i wanted it to be so much more i was screaming at my TV "Come on guys don't let me down" but they did the film failed in a way i suppose "Shot down in flames" comes to mind! & this is a real shame! simple "Attention to details" would of made this film so much more realistic? the music was lovely in the films and the locations too but for me although the actors where really good the mistakes made it too Amateur so i would only give it a 3/10

good but misleading

Warning: Spoilers
I was thrilled to see this movie, which I finally did. The trailer was promising, as was the name, that includes material which could be subject of several feature films. Sadly, I was disappointed.

First, if you make a movie and name it Cosmonaut, one would expect it to be exactly about that. I was expecting to see the heroes of Gagarin, Korolev, Leonov, Kamarov and many others who are only about once mentioned by name and never make an appearance(Gagarin, Kamarov and Korolev, were of course all dead by the time period (wrongly?) chosen). And the beginning was quite promising, starting with the truly amazing recordings two Italian brothers claimed to have made, of a faint heartbeat moving away from earth orbit. The (conspiracy?) theory of lost cosmonauts is an amazing subject, but don't expect much more of it in this movie. The storyline quickly goes into a fantasy world where a stick in the eye MFM relationship is more pronounced than the space flight aspect. I really cannot help but wondering why not choose these characters to be hot blooded college students, with all the fantasy that goes into it.

The real story of the cosmonauts is far more interesting, passionate, compelling and thrilling. I was expecting to see the pressures put upon them by a repressive regime, their non-weavering desire to succeed against all odds and incredible visions of space exploration. It's a remarkable human story-just not the subject of this movie. Don't expect to see the self-defense of a group of Soyuz cosmonauts against hungry wolves-a real story where they were not extracted from their landing area for a few days.

There is nothing wrong with making a fantasy sci-fi. And this movie could have been exactly that. But instead, using and if I may put it bluntly, hijacking the name 'cosmonaut', or the underlying story, it makes an unfair claim.

The movie does include some nice food for thought, one can see how Yulia, making sex with Andrei, and being with Andrei, just doesn't love Andrei. It's a point of the brutal selectiveness of love. And it is a story that could have been told just as well as going on elsewhere. It's a pity because the uniforms and old equipment look so cool, convincing and interesting. This could have been used to create a real space movie that could easily rival Apollo 13.

A movie that is really about the cosmonauts, is yet to be made.

Boring! Don't watch even its Free..
whatsupnotmuch27 August 2013
I can understand this is a mass funding project and they showing it for free and I should respect the producers and the director but I am not sure why 5000 involved people wasted their money and time after the vision of one guy.. the director who don't even understand what is directing.

This movie is just awfully boring from start. After first 5 min I lost the track of what was happening on screen. It is so boring that if you have a sleep disorder you may want to watch it instead of taking sleeping pills.. this movie will indeed make you sleep.

Movie should be entertaining, interesting and captivating. This is exactly opposite to that.

Don't listen to those positive reviews wrote by their own team to market this crap..

Director should be ashamed for wasting everyone's time..specially viewers.

In the beginning of the movie they say.. you decide how much you want to pay to watch this movie.. Well.. You need to pay us.. The Viewers to watch this crap.

You guys should sell Mars bars at the football game rather then making movies. Cause clearly you don't know how to make a one..

WTF is going with this sh*ty film? I mean rly what is going on. Are they been on a high dose of DMT or something similar, that they think they doing something important. And about budget. Imagine you have two friend and one of them is study special effect, and one of them is women, no more no less. And you got a new camera for your birthday from your mommy.. And One day you are smoking DMT and say hey lets make some movie right.. Ohh hey lets do it.. In the mater of fact this story is much more deeper than this "movie". More like New age kids with money. And that spend 860.000 euros.. OMG yeah right. And then one of the producer buy ferrary and vila and say, yeah we are so in the movie quality. And the worst of all, i love this theme of the movie- after riding preview. And i done research on this fields.. This is Embarrassing for all ppl on the earth. WORST movie ever on the planet earth to date..!!

A Wonderful Trip To The Moon And Back
trnjamesbond19 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I viewed this film with an open mind. It was funded by the world, and was free to download on Frostwire P2P sharing program.

The beginning of the film starts consisted of great film quality, excellent special effects, a really awesome score. The special effects would rate up there with any Hollywood production as far as I'm concerned. The score of the film is very beautiful and very well conducted.

This films delves into an age where the Space Race was the game. Apparently the United States won that race, but The Cosmonaut is an interesting story not only is it a film about a failed mission to the moon, but it is also about a love story between Stas(Leon Ockenden),Andei(Max Wrottesley) and Yulia(Katrine De Candole). The two friends make Andrei and Stas make a bet to make there feelings about Yulia mutual, in other words they have the same feelings for one woman. Andrei eventually gets news that they are going to the moon from his Commander of the Russian space program. (This is known eventually over time while watching the film) Andrei picks his best friend Stas to be on the mission and take the role of the first Russian on the moon. Things don't pan out well for the young Russian Cosmonaut, and we are left with him walking through an emotional field of familiar sites and sounds but not quite as he remembered things.

While these scenes are being raced across our television screens and into our senses, we see Yulia not being able to deal with the situation at hand and she starts to lose the will to live.

This film is directed in a very abstract way that has a very basic storyline, but is magically brought to life with atmospheric sounds, colours, and visual effects.

In my opinion, Cosmonaut is a very beautiful and visual film and well edited and scripted, with the help of people all over the world. Very nice to see this film took people from all over to deliver such a wonderful sight, and with no help from Hollywood, or any others like it.

Cosmonaut is very imaginative and entertaining, I would recommend this film to anyone. My only complaint about the film is the Russians speak with a British accent, but regardless very well done, and I think the films storyline is a message to all of us. If we all stick together we can accomplish anything. Hats off to the director Nicolás Alcalá, the actors, and to all the wonderful people that supported this film

Thank YOU! Thanks for reading Jeffrey J Turner, Canada

A beautiful film, don't listen to the naysayers
cope65029 August 2013
I'm going to keep this short and sweet, as I rarely go out of my way to review on IMDb, but this movie has a ~5/10 currently. That is RIDICULOUS.

This movie is beautiful, as another reviewer said, almost like poetry. It had enough sci-fi in it to satisfy the science nerd in me, yet how the film impacted me from an emotional standpoint is where it really hits home.

Watch this movie. It's certainly open to some interpretation, but I thought it was almost majestic (some scenes, for sure), and is definitely worth a watch. It's disgusting that this movie isn't reviewed higher, it was better than 90% of films I see.

Awesome movie

The Cosmonaut is original, sad and beautifully delivered Sci-Fi story of love and adventure. Pay attention and enjoy.

BTW, if your are one of those who base their reviews on budget and CGI, you should really stick to flashy garbage from Hollywood.

Sad but beautiful piece of artwork
gabriel-tandil18 June 2013
While not what I expected to see, I liked.

It is closer to poetry than to traditional film, and I expected more emphasis on the characters and the story.

It's a beautiful job well done, in my opinion, despite a large sadness in its content, but I will not reveal details of the plot so I will say no more.

Sometimes I feel like hard to follow considering the changes in the Timeline, which anyway does not prevent understanding of the work.

Otherwise it's a movie out of the ordinary (as planned: crow-funding, Spanish production spoken in English and filmed in Russia, etc.).

The places are very interesting and the environment, in my opinion very well done. It also has a good soundtrack.

Really enjoyed this movie. Very thought-provoking, adult theme.
fbyrd9910 July 2013
"The Cosmonaut" was very well done, well acted and well thought out. It is not the the typical "Iron Man" blow up stuff movie, but was really good. Don't look for The Hulk to drop down and explain everything to you. There is a fair amount of beauty, magic, love and science here. It reminded me of Kubrick's "2001 A Space Odyssey", Demi Moore in "Ghost", and Bruce Willis in "The Sixth Sense". The adult situations and relationships are beautifully done. No campy stuff here. There are light- hearted moments, but much is of a serious nature. Training for space is a "no joking matter", for the Cosmonauts, and for their loved ones. I watched "The Cosmonaut" twice, and listened to the beautifully haunting music through the extended credits. Great job. I should really rate the movie a "9".

Masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie about a couple of years ago, but I do recommend my friends to watch it right until present day.

Actually there in only one mistake in that picture - the scene were they threw food in each other. That was out of line, out of spirit of USSR of 60th.

Absolutely Stunning Visuals with an Intriguing Story
matt-9793527 April 2018
Naysayers on here definitely are not lovers of film. This is not Hollywood. No hay ending. No over scripted dialogues. Just a beautiful masterpiece. The camera work alone was amazing. truly a crowning achievement of the independent film movement. a must watch for lovers of cinema and a must watch for criterion movie lovers.
