Large amounts of plastic have been carried by waves, weather and wind, and landed on the shore. At Lisle Lyngøy, outside Bergen, plastic has been used by spring flies for building homes.
Plastic has become part of the food chain, because tiny pieces of it often ends up in the animals consuming it. In Svalbard, birds are often found eating plastic.
