Betty White's Year
Sylviastel9 May 2010
I hope this is the year for Betty White. I hope she's in the running for the National Medal of the Arts and Kennedy Center Honors. After last night's hosting duties of Saturday Night Live with some famous female alumni like Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer, and Maya Rudolph to help along. Betty White was perfect in her role as a hostess. My only complaint is that they should have parodied shows like Mary Tyler Moore, Betty White, the Golden Girls, my favorite-Mama's Family, etc. Betty White is an American legend in television which is probably why it was Facebook that helped launch a campaign to get her to host the show. The show's writers should have done even a game show sketch since she was very involved in game shows as well. Still, Betty White had her night right before mother's day. Ironically, she's not a mother herself but she has been a mother figure in the entertainment world. Next time when she hosts (I know she's 88 1/2 years old) but I hope that they would parody some of the sitcoms. Thanks, Betty for giving the hands-down best episode of the season and playing brilliantly last night.

Easily the Best SNL In A Long Time
kenbarr-ny1 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Over 500,000 Facebook users (including me) requested it and boy were we right. Betty White hosted the season ending Saturday Night Live and brought the house down. Starting with the Lawrence Welk "Tribute to Mother's Day, " continuing with a killer monologue and especially the "Delicious Dish - Dusty Muffin" sketch, Ms. White displayed the talents that have made her a TV legend. She started on live television and she restored the last live entertainment/variety/comedy show's luster for at least one night. The "Who Me?" innocence that made some of the most risqué lines deliver howls of laughter. "Oh dear, my muffin hasn't has a cherry since 1939," is probably the best example. She even spices up Weekend Update with her sassy 90 year old character. She had cast members scrambling to keep up with her. The episode is on Hulu, so if you haven't seen it, by all means watch it and remember how good SNL can be with the right people. Perhaps in the coming season Betty White's Dusty Muffin will meet up with Alec Baldwin's Schweddy Balls.

One if the Best

I've been watching SNL since 1975. Saw the very first one and have missed very few over the years. And this is one of the best. Betty White is hilarious. The NPR sketch is classic. Not to be missed.

RIP to a legend

Just rewatched this as SNL re-aired it as a tribute to Betty White. Easily one of the best episodes in the show's history. Rarely do I laugh out loud at a sketch, let alone every single sketch. RIP!

Best of This Season Thanks To Betty White

Warning: Spoilers
The oldest mother ever found for hosting SNL came this year as 88 1/2 year old Betty White did it. Facebook, had a lot to do with this happening along with some creativity by Lorne Michaels & the production team. White beings it off very well.

The opening sketch with White in a musical? it works, & her monologue is right on too. The NPR sketch with Muffins is a hoot. The only surprise with me was the Latin-American sketch. This one is a slap in the face which is of questionable taste especially considering the recent headlines & over reaction to a 10 page Arizona law which no body has read & no one seems to know how if will effect things.

Since NBC does this show in NYC & has a studio in downtown Burbank, I doubt if this sketch will cause any boycott problems in LA or other areas who are blindly condemning something they have not read. This is by far the worst sketch in the show. White is fantastic the rest of the show.

SNL has never been a Bastien of political correctness so they can be forgiven for this sketch. This is the home of the Claudine Longet Skeet Shooting Competition & Gerald Fords "If He's So Stupid, Why Is He President" campaign slogans in Season 1.
