Film depicts how on 9/11 and the following days director Jacob Bender, who lives in NYC and suffer the consequences of the terrorists attacks, found the inspiration and need to assume this project. His Upper West Manhattan Synagogue served that afternoon as a gathering place for all kinds of people, praying or just meeting and greeting. To reject the imposition of a so-called clash of civilizations motivated Bender to start the project.
Many experts were contacted all over the World, some where finally interviewed even if not all were included in the film. Many coincidences happened during these shootings, e.g.: Spanish Foreign minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, who had been European representative in the Middle East peace negotiations, showed 2 portraits of Averroes and Maimonides always present at his office, admitting they are his inspiration in all these negotiations in search of "convivencia"
The production process took several years, in which camera formats changed, until finally shot with Panasonic P2, and also a film print that adds magic of the past to the journey of the 2 wise men from Cordoba. Apart from shooting in 8 countries (USA, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine and Israel), post-production of the film took place in NYC, Berlin and South Spain, which added complexity and also international perspective to the final version.
