Susana and Marcos, two siblings in Buenos Aires, have come to an age where they need to think about their near future as they have reached that time in their lives that will involve extra care. Marcos is retired now, tending to his older mother, with whom he has a close relationship. Susana, on the other hand, is full of hot air, pretending to be an expert on real estate, but as we follow her around the city, she does not seem to have a clear picture of what to do. She goes around inspecting luxury apartments that she can ill afford, while presenting a somewhat sophisticated attitude about it.
After their mother dies, Susana thinks Marcos will be better off, with his fixed income, moving to Villa Laura, a coastal town in neighboring Uruguay. Marcos, who led a much fulfilling life in Buenos Aires, cannot accept the quiet life he finds in the provincial town. Susana, who still believes she is younger than what she really is, has no desire to join her brother, although both visit one another in the excellent ferry service that services the two cities.

Susana is a woman accustomed to exert her influence in the way her brother acts. The domineering Susana has always got the upper hand in their relationship.
Marcos begins discovering his new surroundings. He finds an activity that he likes, when he joins a theatrical company based in the city. The director sees in Marcos a natural actor for what he is trying to do to the classic play "Oedipus Rex", a free interpretation that involves a rethinking of the tragedy. Marcos identifies with the play and the character he is asked to play. The opening day Marcos surprises everyone in the audience doing something that was not in the original text of the play, but in doing so, he makes a fantastic impression on the audience.
Daniel Burman is a director long associated with his alter ego, Daniel Hendler, has taken a complete new direction in his last two films. In "Empty Nest" he changed course in working with more established actors like Cecilia Roth and Oscar Martinez, while in this new production he casts one of the best known faces of the Argentine cinema, Graciela Borges, a raving beauty that refuses to age and one of the best comedians of his generation, Antonio Gasalla. It is a dream cast, in that these two actors in the center of the action brought a fabulous chemistry in creating their characters.
There is a hint of homosexuality in Marcos as he joins the theater group and becomes attracted to the director. Marcos is a man that assumed the role of his sister, who could not take care of their aging mother, something that Marcos does gladly, without complaining. Marcos is genuine, while Susana is just phony. In a way, Susana kept reminding this viewer of Norma Aleandro in "Live- in Maid", especially as she tries to get a catering business off the ground, which never materializes. Ms. Borges and Mr. Gasalla compliment one another in surprising ways. Oscar Nunez makes an excellent contribution as the director that befriends Marcos. Veteran actresses Elena Lucena and Rita Cortese are also seen in supporting roles.
