RE: ZERO But Good
vanwel-9807720 September 2022
Basically re:zero without the isekai bs, with better characters, pacing and overall story. While the show utilizes a familiar concept (time travel) it's execution is well done resulting in a thrilling show with plenty of twists that will leaving you guessing and begging for more at the end of each episode.

It's not a "once in a lifetime super masterpiece" like other reviews seem to be claiming (seriously though why does everyone these days feel the urge to call anything they remotely like a masterpiece?), but it's a great ride that's well worth your time. I do agree it's underrated and should be receiving way more attention than it's getting.

Absolutely fantastic. Noithing new but definitely very very well executed.
HumbleAnimeFan19 January 2023
Summer time render is one of those hidden anime gems that one doesn't find very often. The story while it has already been told before in other anime, it is certainly my favorite time travel anime one as of current. I'll get my gripes with the series out of the way first. My major overall gripe would be that Ushio becomes somewhat convienient for the plot towards the back half and I would've liked for the author to difine her and other shadow's powers more because they just kind of come out of nowhere and also the big baddie's motivatiuon was very cliche and would've like d more insight into him and his backstory. . But other than that this anime is fantastic. The plot is brilliant with this on edge antcipation that comes with each episode, even turining a simple hallway becomes eeire and the air fills with tension. While the chracters don't tread any new ground they are all very likeable, especially ushio and shinpei. Seeing their relationship develop further throughout the series was heartwarming and they genuinely have chemistry. Mio was a good character, would've liked to see more of her but otheriwse she was a good chracter. I thought the whole dynamic between hizuru and her brother was a cool flair to the trope of two personalities in one body. Sou was probably the weakest out of all of the cast, he didn't do much except for the finale but otherwise he was fine (I swear this is not a criticism it's just all of the other cast memebers are so good but I xan't spil in this review) . I think though what seals the deal for this anime is the emotional beats, it hits each one with a such suprising amount of accuracy it's hard not to admire. The series finale did make me cry a little and it was an almost prefect good ending. All in all summertime rendering is a fantastic anime for those who want to get into anime in general and one of the best time travel stories that anime has to offer.

Albi729720 August 2022
The best anime thriller with so many twists that you just want to see what comes next every episode when it airs.

Amazing characters, plot lines perfectly executed, music excellent, animation god tier, some of the plot twists or the events that happen in this anime just straight ahead shocks you and leaves you with your mouth open with 'aw' like what just happened, that good of a show.

Credit where credit is due.

Bravo! 👏🏼

Cookiejar5510 June 2022
Not only are the characters very likable but it's hyper focused on the supernatural and mystery.

The story keeps surprising you. I'm on episode 9 and it's not repetitive at all. There's also good character development so far.

It's one of the best anime series in recent years !

If you are a fan of steins gate, re-zero, and erased, you should check out this show. It's great; it also adds new elements that haven't been used before, so it's fresh.

Only one episode out and it's already promising to be quiet the series
GibbsDuhemEquation15 April 2022
The animation is god tier, the story seems it's off a strong start, I think it's gonna be one hell of ride plus it's the only show that grabbed my attention from the pilot episode and of course spyxfamily, looking forward to watching it, it might end up being a masterpiece if executed correctly.

niranjankumarrocks28 May 2022
Im generally a sucker for time travelling related anime. But this is one has new concept, suspense and twists and turns in a short span. One of the underrated and less talked about anime this year. Hope more people look into it. Its well worth it.

Well written and bordering convoluted.
ACollegeStudent1 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rating: 7.0

Favorite Episode: Bloody Night

A borderline convoluted generally well-explained time travel show about beating monsters and living with no regrets. The show's circularly written and was able to make the overarching A-plot make sense. Most of the characters are two-dimensional at best: Ushio the bubbly hot-headed walking dues ex Machina, Mio the irrelevant love interest who is a damsel in distress most loops, Sou the "bro" who really didn't do anything besides complain to his dad and sister about their treachery etc.. The main issue with this show is that it turned into a battle shonen in the second half with ridiculous contrivances to the shadows (primarily ushio's) abilities to allow them to survive certain scenarios. Way too many examples to list but things like: Ep 18 hizuru somehow figuring out she could willfully transfer her brothers shadow into shide, ushio being able to make a dummy of herself in 1 second to avoid being burned to death by shide when it was never established she made a copy of herself prior, and it took her minutes to make a copy of herself later in the series to destroy shide with a hacking bullet, shide's remote control shenanigans in the final episodes which is what he should've been doing the entire show to fight shinpei with all his clones at once, hizuru's brother opening shinpeis "nerves" in hiroko's world so he could stand up and fire the hacking bullet without shadow powers why didn't he do this when his sister needed it most before she died? Haine somehow moving ushios copied gun to shinpei so he could fire the hacking bullet etc.. It doesn't help that there are copious amounts of plot conveniences that allow very specific plot points to occur. You can only suspend you're disbelief so far when Haine refuses to kill shinpei due to the "presence" of ushio in the shell after she died when she could've just sent any other shadow to kill shinpei (whom has no powers) and win the series; the exit to hiroko's world conveniently being her origin scene so ushio could kill her and beat the story even though this place was prebuilt for her to spend eternity in after regaining her strength? Why would the exit be at the most vulnerable point in time where everything Hiroko worked for could be erased she didn't always plan for ushio to kill her? Don't say hiroko sent them their either she was 99% dead and shouldn't have the ability to do any time jumps. Also Shide not using all his clones at once to repeatedly kill shinpei in any of the loops. They could barely fight one shide, if he did this the story would've ended quickly... The main villain's motive is the generic I want to destroy the world because I want to motive and everything ended happily ever after cheapening any character death prior. It could've been a potential masterpiece given better characters, fewer contrivances, and less unnecessary complexity but all in all, it's just a disappointment.

Time Travel Thriller
Mabkid27 November 2022
Summer Time Rendering starts out intense and mind-blowing with an intriguing premise in a recurring time slip scenario. The protagonists discovers a supernatural evil force at work while investigating the death of his childhood friend.

What's unique is that both the protagonist and villain evolve with each repetition, making the conflict more intense as they try to outsmart each other. Not only that, the repetition timeframe shortens each time. This plot device moves the story along more intensely each time. It feels like When They Cry in Groundhog's Day.

There are some minor issues, however. The pacing is slow at times, despite the desperation of the situation. Also, the start was awesome because they show you what's happening, and audience realization is part of the wow factor. However, around the middle, there is less storytelling and just more and more explanation after explanation of what the story is or what the backstories are. Then it's just the mangaka's intentions rather than good storytelling. Finally, for a serious and dark genre, some if the fanservice humor seem out of place (should've kept it focused without frills like PsychoPass)

However, this series is still very engaging and easily bingeworthy, despite losing steam and getting wordy and overly talkative midway. An enjoyable anime in a while.

Like Watching Paint Dry
kpatterson-1802826 January 2023
Listen to me loud and clear: A male protagonist who goes back in a time loop over the course of the first 6 episodes and never seems to learn a thing. On top of all the other nervous, goofy, bumbling, awkward stumbling anime trope it loves to showcase for young men, and it is too much nothing to even believe!!

Yes, the art and images are cool, but if you want or need the plot to move forward and progress like it has a destination, forget about it. You will never watch another anime made in the last 3-4 years that moves slower than this series. It stalls, meanders, & runs in circles. Yucky!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I will be doing a non-spoiler review of this absolutely astounding series that is criminally underrepresented on this site in reviews. So the spoiler tag goes up now and I will therefore be spoiling things later on in this review imdb.

I am a HUGE fan of the time loop story, the idea of a groundhog day style story has always fascinated me and the intricacies of the ways it can be used have always been right up my street.

And Summertime Render is that and a whole bucket of chips on the side.

The story involves Shinpei, a former resident of Tomogashima returning to his home for the funeral of his step-sister and best friend Ushio. She apparently drowned recently in saving a young girl who had gotten washed out to sea and so begins the story of this amazing idea.

Through the first three episodes we get to see the world we're viewing, where beings called "Shadows" are inhabiting the island and are randomly attacking people, replacing them and going on with their lives as if nothing had happened. We learn also that the strange design of Shinpei through his differently coloured eye, that he can now time travel in a sense, that whenever he dies he resets himself back on a certain point and that he has to find out what happened to Ushio, whats happening to the island and what the Shadows are and why they're doing this.

This series has been likened to things like ReZero and Steins Gate and Higurashi and I'd just like to say that this, largely puts all of them to shame by how masterfully the story is told, how likable the characters are and how the plot is crafted to be beloved, desired and intriguing in every single episode.

There are layers upon layers within this that get peeled back slowly as they are revealed to you, from what happened to Ushio to the conspiracy that plagues the island of Tomogashima and there isn't really a missed beat in the pacing, plot and development.

If I were to give it 1 detriment, it leaves a tiny bit ambiguous but you can figure out whats happened if you're happy enough.

This is a masterclass in storytelling artistry and animation and it should be seen by every fan of anime on the planet.

Amazing !!!
oubmathys18 September 2022
This anime is amazing, everything is perfect.

Whether it's the animation, the characters that are well developed and endearing, the story that is breathtaking, the openings that are bangers, the endings too, the OSTs that put us in the mood, the seiyuus who do a wonderful job. And above all, the entire manga is adapted into an anime: 13 volumes in 24 episodes.

With each episode, we have the right to a reversal of the situation.

Even the manga is very beautiful.

I've seen over 100 anime and it's definitely in my Top 5.

Don't hesitate and go watch this masterclass, you won't regret it!!!

The first episode alone is gripping.

We can't really tell you the story because otherwise we will inevitably spoil you.

Whats with the Hype?
farshidkarimi12 November 2022
Please somebody tell me who is who and what is what here in this series. I had high expectations of this series, considering the high rates and that it was a thriller. The first episode set the stage for a good story, time travel, and trying to find a murderer. However, fron episode two onward, it jumped the shark. This are repeated in a confusing way, flashbacks complicate the confusion. You do not know if a scene is NOW or the PAST. There rae senseless violence scenes or scenes of poinless fightings. Anime series should be consistent and not too confusing to allow the viweer enjoy it, not to forve the viwers move backward tens of times to understand what is going on.

UNDERRATED
gzrd-421995 February 2023
This anime is so refreshing I had been searching for a good anime to binge since the recent ones I've been seeing I usually click off within the first episode, this one was a little slow the first two episodes and I almost clicked off but soemthing compelled me to keep watching and IM SO GLAD I DID! It has everything thriller romance etc everything I LOVE in an anime and what makes it worth watching! And I love that they actually added an episode of them after the aftermath most anime's just include a 2 minute section of the aftermath but it's never enough but this was sooo amazing! Def reccomend.

Better read the manga
AlAensland15 September 2022
I don't mind if everyone doesn't agree with me, but the anime is less scarier than the manga. The anime is loss of feel when it comes to horror and drama feelings. Shinpei's scream on ep 19 is like, there's no feeling. The Scratch on face in the manga makes it more feeling to what happen on Shinpei. Even though i'm so happy that they're bring like Keichi Okabe (NieR composer) and MONACA staff to score the ost of the anime. Yeah it's fresh, but i rather recommend to read the manga to get more experience, even though there's no sound and just word and word. The Manga, 9/10. Anime 7/10, it's still decent but ain't perfect.

Anime more than wonderful
yassinelmssrah6 July 2023
I sleep more than wonderful, I recommend everyone to watch it. You'll have fun with every moment, every second, you'll never get bored.

An anime that carries many shocks, in the first episode you will be shocked, and in the rest of the episodes you will also be shocked, countless shocks, and more than interesting events, I recommend it, watch it you will never regret.

And the ending is more than wonderful, it left me for hours feeling an inner emptiness, an amazing ending with wonderful events before it. And the ending is more than wonderful, it left me for hours feeling an inner emptiness, an amazing ending with wonderful events before it.

And do not forget the most wonderful drawing and animation, the studio excelled in that, frankly you will never find a loophole.
