Love is a beautiful thing -- until it’s suddenly not. While we stared at plenty of stunning engagement rings and cooed over whimsical wedding dresses, 2017 was also full of shocking breakups -- and a few that people kind of saw coming.
As if this year hasn’t been hard enough with, well, everything going on in the world, here are the 12 celeb splits that collectively broke our hearts.
1. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris

The breakup heard around the world! One of the most beloved and seemingly in-love duos in Hollywood, fans never saw the demise of the Jurassic World and Mom stars, and, honestly, we’re not sure we’ve recovered.

Ashleigh Wade, the New York woman who fatally stabbed her friend before cutting the victim’s baby out of her womb, was found guilty of second-degree murder and kidnapping on Thursday.
The 24-year-old woman wept as the verdict was read. It took the jury just five hours to convict her. When she is sentenced on October 20, Wade faces life in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Meredith Holtzman told the jury that Wade faked a pregnancy in 2015 when she lured her friend, Angelikque Sutton to her home. When Sutton arrived, Wade slashed her in the face and neck, cutting her larynx so that she couldn’t scream.

A Michigan woman who authorities say kept her deaf and mute adult sister locked in a closet with no water or light — and a bucket to relieve herself — was convicted this week of false imprisonment and other charges, People confirms.
A jury in Shiawassee County, Michigan, also found 46-year-old Candy Lawson guilty of embezzlement and vulnerable adult abuse. Prosecutors say Lawson misappropriated her sister’s Social Security disability insurance funds and kept her in a closet in her home in Corunna, Michigan, until a police officer found her in July 2015.
Lawson remains in the county jail. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct.

Buyers return to Cannes like swallows to the Capistranos, but this year they’ll find a hostile landscape. Too many buyers, too few titles, and streaming-service disruptors are driving up prices all the while, making North American prebuys increasingly necessary.
That’s hazardous terrain: Witness the Weinstein Company’s $6 million bid for transgender drama “3 Generations” (aka “After Ray”). Two years later, after a title change and poor reviews on and off the festival circuit, the drama starring Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon finally received a May 5 release. Total domestic gross to date: $46,421.
That was in 2015, the last year that TWC held its then-annual dog-and-pony show for buyers and press at the Majestic Hotel. This year, like the last, they’ll hold court on their yacht, which also serves as their offices — still tony, but on a budget; it’s a lot less expensive than that prime Croissette real estate. The music video for Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik's duet for Fifty Shades Darker, "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," caused Twitter to have a minor meltdown on Friday morning. Although Zayn and Taylor's track for the film has been out since December, it seems none of their fans were mentally prepared for the amount of extreme hair flips, sexual tension, trench coats, and destroyed hotel rooms that the video delivers. Some have pointed out the collaboration's awkward connection to One Direction and wondered about the weirdness of Taylor and Zayn's sexual tension in the video when he's dating Taylor's Bff, Gigi Hadid. Overall, however, it seems that "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" is a total hit (and once you see how insanely hot Zayn looks in it, you'll see why). I think it is very important to start this story with the fact that I have a huge crush on Amy Schumer. Yes, she is a guilty pleasure of mine. I get it, she does not have a perfectly skinny body like say Emma Stone, Emma Watson, or Emma Roberts, but I find her much more attainable than any of the Emmas. To me, Amy is the hottest girl at the bar. She tells jokes, and is the one that all your friends like. My type of girl.
She is the American Girl, and who better to represent an American classic, such as Barbie, besides her. So I was thrilled when THR broke the news that she will indeed be the lead in the upcoming live-action Barbie film.

Yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling, which overruled a Texas abortion law that would shut down all but a handful of clinics across the state, was the most significant decision on abortion the court has made in the last 20 years. While abortion is a constant hot topic in terms of governmental policy, it is rarely addressed on our televisions, outside of CNN or Fox News. And when it is addressed, TV shows have a tendency to shy away from honestly portraying how real women deal with unwanted pregnancies.

Based on whichever review of Amy Schumer's new movie "Trainwreck" you read, you learned it's either an incisive critique of postfeminism or a conventional movie merely dressed as a progressive one. You may have heard (from us) it's an ingenious star vehicle that forces director Judd Apatow to break outside his comfort zone and tell someone else's story, a feat he often does well. But you may have also heard "Trainwreck" is another overlong, under-focused Apatow drama masked with raunch. In fact, the most definite thing I can say about the quality of "Trainwreck" is you've probably heard a lot about it. For me, the problem is it's all correct. "Trainwreck" has stuck with me like no other movie this year because its levels of success and failure spike and plummet without warning. It is the strongest, weakest movie of the summer. There are glorious moments of well-acted comic mayhem,...

Looking every bit the part of a Housewife in a sparkling cocktail dress, with wine glass in hand, Schumer shares her potential taglines, including, "I'm Amy, and I may look like a whore ... but I am" and "I don't need a man,...

As we all surmised when I wrote this not-at-all-controversial bit, Barry is getting his own “Felicity” because it’s simply too soon for Iris to move on from Eddie — especially since Season 2 picks up right where we left off, with The Flash fighting the wormhole.

This weekend, Hillary Clinton finally announced what we’ve been waiting for: that she will be running for president in the 2016 election. To celebrate, we’ve gathered some of the best Saturday Night Live sketches, featuring Amy Poehler and Kate McKinnon as the presidential hopeful herself. And these SNL moments are more like Hilarious Clinton (I’m sorry I did that; it’s out of my system now).
“Citizens! You will elect me! I will be your leader!” should really be her campaign slogan.
Who could ever forget the coming together of our two greatest political minds! Well, one great political mind and one talking Bump-it.
She’s a sore loser — don’t disappoint her!
She even knows how to work the White House furnace already. That’s experience you can trust.
Whatever happens, she’s got a better job than governor of Alaska.
We finally have a visit from the Real Hil Shady herself!

I can't imagine that the wee moviegoers of the world won't be getting all the Big Hero 6, Lego and Groot goodies their hearts desire over Christmas but here are ten stocking stuffers we wish we could play with on Thursday morning.
Listen, nobody is ever going to serve the niche within the niche within the niche markets -- I 've accepted that fact that I'll never own Vera Drake action figures or, to quote Waiting for Guffman, a Remains of the Day lunchbox. But that shouldn't stop the dreaming. Some of the following prezzies inspired by 2014 movies, would surely put huge smiles on the face of your cinephile loved ones. Some of these you can actually stuff in stockings. Others do not exist.

Can we just skip to next week and the triumphant return of the "My Ox Is Broken" task? I kinda wish that "Amazing Race" recycled the most difficult of challenges more frequently. Like the hay bale challenge from Season 6 and Season 15? That one could totally be done every five seasons. And if next week's ox return is triumphant, aren't we going to be annoyed that the show waited 20 full seasons before giving somebody else the chance to try to top Colin's Season 5 meltdown? I sure will be. Fine. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Friday (November 28) night's "Amazing Race" was probably the most purely entertaining Leg of the season. It had an exciting decision process on the Fast-Forward, an impressively photogenic Roadblock and a Detour that rewarded fans who like their Detours noisy and will probably infuriate anybody who stops to think about it for more than a second.

One sure sign of a film's legacy: Does it inspire its own holiday? If you happened to be anywhere near the Internet on Oct. 3, you probably noticed an outpouring of nostalgia for 2004's Mean Girls. The reason? A throwaway line uttered by Lindsay Lohan's Cady: "It's October 3rd." That may seem a pretty slim thread to hang an entire day on, but it's indicative of the fervent fan base for this new-classic teen comedy. Written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters (Vampire Academy), Mean Girls stars Lohan as a high school student at a new school who infiltrates the Plastics,...

What do film directors Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Agnès Varda, Robert Wise, Fred Zinnemann, Luis Buñuel, Alain Resnais, Roman Polanski, Sidney Lumet, Robert Altman, Louis Malle, Richard Linklater, Tom Tykwer, Alexander Sokurov, Paul Greengrass, Song Il-Gon, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro Iñárritu have in common? More specifically, what type of film have they directed, setting them apart from fewer than 50 of their filmmaking peers? Sorry, “comedy” or “drama” isn’t right. If you’ve looked at this article’s headline, you’ve probably already guessed that the answer is that they’ve all made “real-time” films, or films that seemed to take about as long as their running time.

Doctor Who, Season 8, Episode 7, “Kill the Moon”
Written by Peter Harness
Directed by Paul Wilmshurst
Airs Saturdays at 9pm Et on BBC America
This week, on Doctor Who: The Doctor and Clara discuss respect and choice. Also, space spiders.
In “The Caretaker”, the Doctor expressed a level of ownership over Clara, demanding an explanation for her relationship with Danny. In “Kill the Moon”, any ounce of paternalism is removed, as a fun and scary adventure on the moon gives way to an exploration of choice, responsibility, and respect.
The episode starts out fairly typically, with the Doctor heading off on an adventure with Clara and Courtney (who he’s accidentally traumatized). There’s a lot to like right off the bat, with the episode switching nimbly from comedy (nice to know there’s an official Tardis anti-hanky-panky rule, though that might be a post-River addition) to suspense.
