Love the new developments
madison-singfiel23 October 2021
Unsurprisingly, this was a great episode. The biggest things that stood out to me this episode were the dynamics between characters, specifically Thorpe, Harper and Elijah Stone.

I am really enjoying the relationship between Thorpe and Harper right now. She was already amazing, tough but also funny. Watching how they bounce off each other but also how Thorpe encourages Harper is really fun to see.

I also love Brandon Jay McLaren's performance in this season. (Low key the only reason I'm writing this review). I've been watching the Disney show Turner and Hooch and BJM's character in that is so different from this. Xavier is so laid back, seemingly random and funny that it's hard not to enjoy his screen time. But Elijah Stone is dark, intimidating and cunning. He is such a good bad guy and I already dislike him so much. But I can't help but love watching his scenes because the differences in BJM's performances are so stark. I would imagine that as an actor those differences are so fun to play with and expand upon. I'm really looking forward to what comes next for all the characters but especially Elijah Stone.

Great Combination of Personal Things and Cases
SourCandyOrNoCandy10 May 2022
I got confused during this episode trying to follow the cases, but it was still a good one. I really, really enjoyed the storylines with the personal things (ie. Harper's love life, Angela and Wesley as parents and Bradford picking his aid).

Best parts of the episode?

  • I thought that Aaron would be a one-episode character, but I'm really loving that he's not. I love his dynamic with Harper. Even more so than Harper and Nolan and I loved them.

  • I've been loving seeing Angela and Wesley as parents.

  • I love that Harper's two boyfriends finally met because I was lowkey stressing about the episode when they met and everything went wrong, so I'm glad that's over with. James is definitely my favourite.

  • Bradford looking out for Chen by not choosing her was so sweet. I can't wait to have them working together again.

Worst parts of the episode?

  • This storyline with Elijah is going to make me nervous for as long as it goes on.

The Arson
claudio_carvalho4 November 2021
Nolan and Chen attend a dispatch call about a structural fire and they hear a voice asking for help. They decide to help the man instead of waiting for the firemen. Later they learn that the fire was arson using accelerant and one person died. Nolan and Chen go to the hospital to interrogate the survivor but find that he is tripping. However, he says that he overheard two voices, one yelling and the other crying before the fire. Later they meet Sgt. Bradford, his partner and Harper at the coffee stand and they witness a sniper shooting at a car. The shooter flees and his target, who is identified as Michael Silver, dies. Meanwhile Nolan and Chen investigate the arson fire and Lopez finds a lead for them to follow. Meanwhile Wesley receives the visit of a persona nongrata in his office.

"In the Line of Fire" is a good episode of "The Rookie" with a complex story and the return of Elijah Stone threatening Wesley and his family. The plot is to be continued and let's hope that the conclusion is not disappointing. Wesley is in trouble since he has associated to a dangerous criminal. My vote is seven.

Finally the show is good again

This is what I missed from the rookie normal episodes without anything over the top that ruins the show.

Oh no, not again
Windrider615 October 2021
The background music had been toned down for awhile for the TV show, but here again with this episode, the music and lyrics was intrusive enough to make dialog incomprehensible at times. The fact that the music is targeted to people younger than the audience of this show also still bothers me.

Otherwise it was an entertaining episode.

Lazy Story Idea
Redoubt_Rogue12 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like the show and it's been great even though I hate the loss of Titus Makin Jr.

However; this blackmail story line is really lazy writing. Really? The one guy on the show with a black and white moral compass ends up under the thumb of a mobster? Did someone break into their high school writing journal for this plotline?

So Tired of Chen
supermodelyum13 January 2022
This show started off so good. -- Now it's a freaking high school drama that has NOTHING to do with "the rookie" and all to do with childish cliche relationship drama, babies, long conversations about feelings and ridiculously improbable situations that rarely happen to the majority of officers over their entire careers, let alone rookies. It might as well be Gilmore Girls or 90210. (Groan).

I understand that they want to hype up the drama to make an exciting show. But there's a massive list of cop shows that came before this that didn't need to dumb down the show to appeal to high school age kids.

Heck, when I was a kid everyone in those cop shows was older than me. Now, they're not only younger, but so childish that they don't behave with the maturity required or desired of someone who graduated from a police academy and walks our streets carrying fire arms.

Also, another dumb writer mistake: .223 rounds are not a "sign that the sniper is a professional" with military training. .223 is the consumer version of the NATO 5.56 round. Virtually the same (since they can be fired from the same rifle), but technically different. - There's also no way to tell if a round is 5.56 or .223 because the bullets are the same. The only way to tell after they have been fired is to read the stamp on the primer end of the casing.

Writers are just too dumb to use Google. Sad. Lazy.

It's in the details....

Warning: Spoilers
Just like Station 19 last week, on this episode of The Rookie, a fireman carries a hose into an active fire barehanded. No gloves. Ask even the newest volunteer trainee if this is a good idea.

I do love Jenna Dewan as Bailey, however she needs some training on how to be a firefighter.

Feels Rejuvenated and a Great Episode to Boot
MegRK112112 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was worried after the events of the end of last season, especially Jackson' death. I loved him and was devestated how they killed him off. I wish they would bring it up more. I hated the 3 month time jump but I understand why they did it. That being said, this ep was great. Harper and Thorson (sp?) are so great as TO and Rookie. I already LOVE Aaron and can't wait to see more of him.

It's awesome seeing Tim as Sergeant, he's so great at it and it's about time. Looking forward to more of that. Also, I know Chenford happens later in the series and I can't wait!

Angela and Wesley as parents is great, though I worry about Wesley's deal with Elijah is going to end very badly and it makes me extremely nervous. I do know that Wesley lives and that makes me happy.

Full disclose, I literally know nothing about what cops and firefighters can and can't do nor do I really know anything about guns so any inaccuracies do not bother me at all. It's a television show. Unless you're a police officer, with all respect, you need to calm down and just enjoy.

All in all, this show has become one of my favorites. I love this cast. I hope to see more of Bradford's personal life considering he's my favorite.

Great episode, well.

logic? what you mean it is suppose to make sense?
steveclem-437783 November 2021
When you plan on doing a real police drama call me. This is The Facts of life version of a police show. You could put Tootie and Natalie out there and it would be no different. I could see Mrs. Garrett being the Sergeant and good news for you ladies a young George Clooney taking over for a 50-year-old Nathan Fillion as the star. The immaturity level of the show is contemptible. The levity is bad and the police work is simplistic so it won't stump the viewers. Hey, you know, I really didn't see that coming. Really? Oh boy.... It reminds me of TJ Hooker. I swear the Battle of Network TV Stars is coming on right after this very sad and corny show. What kind of nepotism was going on to allow the creator of this show to actually air it. You go get them Alexi! If this was Fillion's great return to T. V. all I can say is ain't going to make you forget Castle. I am convinced the reason that Castle was so great was because of Stana Katic's portrayal of Kate Beckett. There was such an intensity to her character that I'm convinced she is the best cop I have seen on TV in the last 15 years. What Nathan Fillion is doing now is so soft in comparison to Castle, Firefly, and even Two guys, a girl, and a pizza place. It really makes me sad. Rick Castle was tougher than any of the lollypops on this show. What was good about this episode? The two-second before it came on and the three seconds after it was off. Even the alleged intense scenes in this episode with Elijah Stone would make you chuckle. Ohh, he's coming to get ya! Even funnier was the rap music they used to add a fake intensity to the scene. My favorite part of the episode was the beginning when Johns's girlfriend comes running off the fire truck screaming about masks. How many shades of burnt do you need to be before someone comes in to save you from a burning building. The time the fire truck got there you are a crispy critter. They did stick with that mask thing all through the whole episode. It took guts but they were proud of that. The EQ is high and the IQ is low. What can you expect when the writers use Crayon to write this stuff. Look' If you want a good intense drama for grown-ups to watch go see absentia with Stana Katic. You may get the feeling back in your brain that was stolen from you watching this after school special.

Music
wyogirl-5801020 March 2022
The music on this episode is less than desirable!!

When the officers are chasing on foot, the music is horrible. Only city people would like it. Not the general public.
