The Leader, the upcoming biopic about the Heaven’s Gate cult set to star Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga, has lured another big-name follower.
The Hollywood Reporter can reveal that Simon Rex has joined the real-life crime drama, unveiled earlier this week at the European Film Market in Berlin, where The Exchange is introducing the project to buyers.
Farmiga and Nelson are set to play Ti and Do, the founders of the UFO cult that in 1997 committed the largest mass suicide to ever take place on American soil. THR understands that Rex — who received critical acclaim for the Cannes-bowing Red Rocket and recently wrapped production on Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut Pussy Island, one of several upcoming roles — will play a key devotee of the religion who faces devastating consequences when he falls in love with a fellow cult member.

After a couple of lean years, Berlin is ready to feast.
Its European Film Market kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 16 with hundreds of finished films and scores of new packages and projects for every cinematic taste and budget. Even as sellers are still setting up their stands at the EFM’s Martin Gropius Bau headquarters, new packages continue to come thick and fast.
Black Bear International, which helped close a deal with Lionsgate (for domestic) and Amazon (for multiple international territories) for Guy Ritchie’s World War II actioner The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on the eve of Berlin, added the buzzy musical project Fred & Ginger, about Hollywood dance legends Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, played by Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley, to its EFM slate. Black Bear will handle international sales of the project, previously at Amazon, with UTA Independent Film Group and 30West co-repping the U.S.

It was sad to see Jeanette Limas go after the “Concept Store” assignment on “Making the Cut,” especially because it meant she wouldn’t be able to show the 10-look collection she designed. After they put so much work into their collections, I think all four should’ve gotten the chance to show them off, but alas, I didn’t get a vote. We did end up with three stellar finalists, though: Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, and Yannik Zamboni. Which of them was named the next great global brand in “Finale”?

The elimination of Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert from “Making the Cut” in the episode “Social Media Content” surprised no one more than Markantoine himself, who didn’t think he should have been sent home. But despite his protestations the competition moved on with its final four: Rafael Chaouiche, Georgia Hardinge, Jeanette Limas, and Yannik Zamboni. But those semifinalists had one big task standing between them and the finale. So what happened in “Concept Store”?

Despite their ongoing feud with the royal family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry seem happy to be back in the United Kingdom. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Manchester, England, on Monday to attend the One Young World Summit.
Markle wore a bright red jumpsuit for the event, and began her speech to the cheering crowd by saying, “It is very nice to be back in the U.K., and it is very nice to be back with all of you at One World.”
The speech, which officially opened the summit, was the 41-year-old duchess’ first time in the U.K. since she and Harry officially stepped down as senior members of the royal family.

“I had a lot to live up to because I had been put in the middle or almost at the bottom on many occasions,” says “Making the Cut” contestant Georgia Hardinge about how she approached the sixth assignment, “Social Media Content.” “I was like, okay, I need to win something, I need to do something to show that I’m capable of getting to the final.” She did just that, winning the assignment and advancing to the final four. Watch our exclusive video interview with Hardinge above.
See‘Making the Cut’ spoilers: Who was eliminated, when, and why in season 3?
The task for the contestants in “Social Media Content” was to design their usual two looks — one high-fashion runway look and one accessible look for the winner to sell online — but there was an added multimedia dimension. In addition to their designs, they would have to record TikTok videos to promote their looks.

Heidi Klum is known for throwing incredible Halloween parties, and for going above and beyond with her own spectacular costumes. The last few years have seen her transform into a cartoonish Jessica Rabbit, a giant butterfly and a startlingly realistic old lady. This year, for her annual fete on Halloween night Klum “cloned” herself, appearing with five remarkable lookalikes in identical beige-and-white bodysuits and thigh-high boots.
The surprise costume certainly required fewer prosthetics than the supermodel has used in the past: “It’s not all that glamorous. Last year, I was Jessica Rabbit, it took two hours to disassemble that,...

You've seen Beyoncé's "Formation" video, you've parsed through all the details, now what to make of it? New York writer-at-large Rembert Browne, The Cut editors Allison Davis and Ashley Weatherford, and Vulture editor Dee Lockett unpack their thoughts on Beyoncé's blackness, feminism, politics, and slayage. Ashley: What a time to be Black and alive! Just when I was thinking nothing could top Missy Elliott’s appearance at the Super Bowl last year, Beyoncé drops this gem, which she’ll hopefully perform during halftime. There’s often talk of what it means to be “unapologetically black” and this video is the blueprint. Lyric by lyric she celebrates blackness. Blue Ivy’s natural hair? Check. Hot sauce always on deck? Check. Recognizing the divine creation that is Red Lobster? Double check. Beyoncé is very black, lest you forget. Rembert: Ashley, by “black” I think you meant to say “Negro,” because that is...

True Detective
Crime drama is always looking for new ways of dramatising a murder investigation: one killing investigated over 10 episodes; alternating viewpoints of cops, killer, victims and so on. However, in this ambitious series from HBO, multiple seasons will follow the search for a serial killer in Louisiana over 17 years, with each year introducing a new cast. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are in the first group. Either magnificent or mad. Mark Lawson HBO.
Penny Dreadful
This has a remarkable lineage: it is produced by film and stage director Sam Mendes and John Logan, who wrote Skyfall for Mendes as well as Hugo, The Aviator and Gladiator. Its disadvantage may be the daring concept, in which a number of fictional horror story characters – Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and Dorian Gray – are living in Victorian London.
