Nice idea but the explicit and rather cringe-inducing nature of it tends to lose the main point somewhat

The title translates as "How I Met Your Father" although I do not think it has anything to do with the US sitcom of a similar name (but wouldn't know for sure as I have never watched it). The content of the film sees a couple getting together for the first time and ends with the potential for a future relationship, which is not really telling you the end since this in essence is what links back to the title. Essentially the film is a sex scene but it is one that really goes against the norm in terms of what you would normally have in a film – and I'm pretty sure this is the point since it is the whole film.

This does make the film a bit awkward to watch because it did make me cringe at times, but the sex scene is at least honest about reality. OK it is not the "norm", but it is a lot more accepting of reality than the usual Hollywood scene of instant erection and instant penetration without anything going on first. The sex lacks nudity but is pretty explicit in terms of suggested acts and I am afraid that I did find this overwhelmed the nicer point of people being flawed but being accepting of each other and finding love anyway. At times it was funny but too often it was cringe-inducing and a little embarrassing, which masked the heart of the film and made the conclusion less likely. It would have been nicer if it had kept the core idea but perhaps not pushed it to extremes and allowed the couple to find more of an intimacy than that which came across.

A nice idea then and it is well made considering it was shot in a couple of nights for comparatively little money, but pulling it in a little bit would have made it work a little better. No pun intended.

Uninspired attempt to cash in through film title Warning: Spoilers
"Cómo conocí a tu padre" or "How I Met Your Father" is a 9-minute live action short film from 2008, so this one will have its 10th anniversary next year. The writer and director is Álex Montoya and for him as well as for the two actors in here it is among the more known efforts from their careers. It is basically slightly under 10 minutes of two people having sex. The fact that it is not too graphic and explicit in terms of nudity keeps it from being porn I guess, but this sure as hell is not a quality comedy film. The guy does everything wrong he can during the sex scenes while trying to act like an alpha male I guess, but somehow the girl still likes his goofiness as we find out at the very end. Still, the charming/cute element was also just another failed attempt in my opinion. There was nothing that remotely stood out about this film in terms of realism, writing and acting. And then of course there is the English title with which Montoya clearly tried to cash in with the famous television show that has almost the same names and I guess he succeeded to some extent at least. Maybe he should have succeeded in terms of creativity instead. I sure hope looking at the fact that he is still making films these days that he stepped things up considerably in the last decade, for his sake, but even more so for his audience's sake. In any case, get subtitles if you are not fluent in Spanish and want to see this one. I highly recommend not to though.

A long sex scene, the realistic problem of the first date, a shy man and a seductive woman, both students and a very long night with a "noble" cause. Short, a seductive comedy, in which the nudity is suggested, like the sexual act, with refreshing end and a spring air. So, just nice.
