Do you like scenery?
ursanddon29 December 2021
Try fabulous scenes of the French Alp's, decent plots, and great characters. It's not complicated, but I enjoyed this series very much!

The main actors are complete and the boss cop is a woman, a plus in my book.

If you liked Jesse Stone you'll enjoy this.

I happened upon this series when Amazon suggested it based on our viewing history and it's really enjoyable.

The flow is comfortable, not a lot of action, but the action is appropriate. I like the cast; they look like every day people for the most part and their characters are like people we've all met. Nobody is setting out to be a hero, they just deal with whatever they have to do and get on with it all and that's it.

The scenery is spectacular though ; filming takes place in the Alps in Provence and will stun you!

Great scenery, good plots and actors and original music that suits it all.

Mountain Detective is a Must Watch
drroy-4455828 October 2022
One of the best series out there. Episode 1 is slow to develop but ends well. The remaining 8 episodes are suspenseful with great story lines. After episode 2 you are hooked. Each actor plays their role to perfection and Alex is outstanding. There couldn't be a better setting than this beautiful mountain valley in the south of France. Non- French speakers should not be deterred from watching. We hardly realize we're reading subtitles because each story is so good. Finally, the writers have consistently instilled strong societal values that leave you feeling good at the end.

The only disappointment is Amazon Prime & Masterpiece only offered Season 1.

What an excellent series!! Storylines are intense and not always predictable! Characters are enjoyable. The scenery is incredible. Hope to have access to the next season. Will it be available on PBS Masterpiece streaming app?

Spectacular mountain scenery
ver_sacrum-216 June 2023
After watching the first six episodes on Prime,, I'm ready to watch season 2. To be honest, two shows in season 1 were pretty awful and had a totally different feeling, but the other episodes were so good I stuck with it. The basic premise is that the lead character was an urban cop in Marseille and had his fill of the city life, particularly as it pertained to his line of work. He and his new colleagues at the extremely casual rural police station are quite believable and dedicated get neither respect nor cooperation from the citizenry, but the keep plugging away. For viewers who aren't quite fluent in French, most characters in the series speak fairly clearly and free of difficult regional dialects.

Zero Character Development!
jeannebodine18 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this series based on the relatively high rating score. I don't recall ever seeing a show with zero character development so this was a first. I only watched one episode but that was enough.

The events as they unfold should stir some emotions and excitement: A groom shot coming out of a wedding chapel, a beautiful bride finding out the man she married is an imposter, etc. But everything that happens is completely lifeless. Not one character displays an ounce of personality nor do they convey any emotion. Even tired detective tropes would be welcome - a world-weary detective, an overbearing boss. But nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Find something more exciting to do like listening to a State of Union address or watching golf on TV.
