Incredibly interesting subject matter, visually inventive and utterly charming. The rare kind of documentary that turns a personal and somewhat obscure subject matter - gruff rhys' investigation of his Patagonian relative - into an informative and appealing journey. Rhys explores the history and present experience of the welsh community in Patagonia, looking at personal stories and also at post-colonial and more recent political issues in Argentina, weaving in performances and songs in an elgant and whimsical way. It's an utterly gorgeous visual experience, and of course not a little odd, especially the superbly lovely way rhys' travel between continents is represented; no lines moving on maps here. Really seriously good documentary making, and beautifully entertaining.
