When they had a last-minute cancellation on The Brady Bunch Variety Hour (1976), the Kroffts brought in H.R. Pufnstuf to pantomime to the original Elton John number "Celebration," which is glimpsed here as originally intended.
The theme park lasted just 8 months, with an estimated 800,000 visitors.
The park was erected inside of Atlanta's Omni International building, which later became the home to CNN.
In H. R. Pufnstuf: The Strange World of Sid and Marty Krofft (2000), Sid Krofft remarked of the Crystal Carousel, "People just freaked out and would get on it - they'd want to take their clothes off, it was so beautiful!"
Baby Irene and Betty Broadbent were based on real performers whom Sid Krofft toured with at the Ringling Bros. Circus in the 1940s. They also inspired characters in Krofft's quasi-autobiographical TV movie, Side Show (1981), although their names were changed to Goliatha and Paula Picasso.
