Highly effective drama of self-realization

Producer Bree Mills backed this sincere, at times moving feature about discovering one's true identity, a welcome successor to her crossover hit "Teenage Lesbian" - a coming-out story.

Directed and co-written by Joanna Angel, it's the story of TS porn star Casey Kisses, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside crew member Shawn Alff. For Angel it's a refreshing departure from her usual tongue-in-cheek/over-the-top approach, dramatic and believable rather than a comic strip.

Bulk of the movie has Dante Colle starring as Cameron, the cis-male who became Casey Kisses the trans-female porn actress after surgery and transitioning. After 2-1/2 hours, Casey herself takes over the lead role, coming out from under the bandages to play herself for the final hour. Artistic license has Casey emerging taller than Dante, seeming to tower over her co-stars (definitely not due to surgery).

With the open road, used between segments with bikers motoring along the highway, used symbolically to propel the story, we see Cameron (Dante) joining a Texas biker club led by Derrick Pierce, and quickly rising to prominence, undone when word gets out that he's queer, namely attracted to and having sex with men. In particular, his girlfriend Kira Noir balks at his quirk of wanting pegging from her when they have sex (not shown), as well as him falling for lovely TS girl Khloe Kay.

Casting is effective for the drama, as both Colle and Kay handle dialog about the perils of stereotyping and pigeonholing people, reflected in their own careers: Kay as a TS superstar and Colle as one of only a handful of male actors who comfortably alternate between boy/girl, boy/boy and boy/trans roles (Christian XXX and Wolf Hudson come to mind).

Acting by the leads and supporting cast is uniformly convincing and earnest, far removed from the glib approach so often on display in Adult content nowadays. Tommy Pistol, cast as Cameron/Casey's ex-con dad does a fine job in a tricky role, alternately sympathetic and a source of the very prejudice (and bad habits) our heroine is escaping from.

Happy ending reflects the star's emergence as a hit webcam girl transitioning to mainstream porn prominence.
