The Blumhouse horror Night Swim is coming to DVD and Blu-ray in the UK, and it’s getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release.
A quiet-ish start to the year for Blumhouse in 2024, kicking off back in January with Night Swim, a horror thriller that didn’t quite manage to find an audience. It didn’t find much acclaim either, but still, it’s likely to pick up a bit of interest now it’s on its way to home formats.
Here in the UK, Night Swim has already made it to digital release, and it’s available for a premium price for the minute. But the physical media release is around the corner too, with 22nd April inked in for its disc debut.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given its weak-ish box office, Night Swim won’t be getting a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc release. But it is nonetheless set to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray,...

Soon after the release of M3GAN in January of 2023, it was announced that the team behind the film – Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster – were aiming to replicate M3GAN‘s January theatrical success by setting a January 2024 release date for their supernatural thriller Night Swim. The movie didn’t manage to go over as well or get as much attention as M3GAN did, and was given a VOD release by the end of January. Now it’s set to receive a Collector’s Edition digital release tomorrow, March 12th, with a Blu-ray and DVD release to follow on April 9th – and these releases of Night Swim will be accompanied by featurettes and a commentary.

Where It All Began The Lukewarm Swim Let’s take a trip down memory lane to the first Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief movie, shall we? Picture this: 2010, you’re excited to see your favorite demigod on the big screen, and then…well, it’s a bit of a belly flop. Previous adaptations of Percy Jackson have had mixed receptions, and while Logan Lerman did his best with what he got, the film was more of a gentle wave in the ‘cinematic pool’ than the tsunami fans were hoping for. A Sequel Hits an Iceberg Named Audience Disappointment Then came...

With his debut feature Last Swim, an ambitious and quietly radical portrait of young life in London, Sasha Nathwani has achieved one of the most difficult tasks for a new filmmaker: cutting through with a festival audience.
Last Swim debuted last week at the Berlin Film Festival, where it opened the festival’s Generation sidebar. The pic has been one of the more buzzy titles here on the ground in the German capital and is considered a frontrunner to pick up some gold when awards are announced this weekend.
Set over a sweltering exam results day in London, the pic follows Ziba, a promising British-Iranian teen, as she leads her friends on an eventful journey across the city. Despite the celebratory atmosphere, Ziba struggles to retain her characteristic optimism as she finds herself battling the fears and secrets she’s been hiding from her friends. "Someone needs to swim for help." Studiocanal has revealed an official UK trailer for a shark horror movie titled Something in the Water, made by a VFX artist turned filmmaker named Hayley Easton Street. It's set for release in the UK in July this summer, though no US date confirmed yet. This all-female production is written by, directed by, produced by, and stars nothing but women. Awesome! "This summer, fear will find new depths." The survival thriller follows a group of five girlfriends who must fight for their lives in open water after a dream wedding transformed into a nightmare. Starring Hiftu Quasem, Lauren Lyle, Natalie Mitson, Nicole Rieko Setsuko, and Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart, as a group of friends on a holiday gone very wrong. It's always the same story in these shark movies, something goes wrong while out on the water. But this still looks pretty good! They'll never stop making more shark horror movies,...

When, in the opening minutes of Natatorium, a fresh-faced teen arrives at a blocky modernist showplace of a house, it seems she’s checking in to a swanky Airbnb. But the well-appointed dwelling, where an oppressively dark glacial blue predominates, turns out to be the unwholesome home of the grandparents she hasn’t seen in years. Estrangement and silence are the guiding principles within this hermetically sealed universe, which, as the title of Helena Stefánsdóttir’s drama indicates, contains an indoor swimming pool. “Don’t go into the basement” would be a handy subtitle. Not that the upper floors offer much refuge.
In a movie that ultimately centers on a trinity of female kin at cross-purposes — visiting Lilja, her formidable grandmother and moderately rebellious aunt — the 18-year-old outsider is the catalyst for the revelations and unraveling to come. Traveling from her island home, Lilja (Ilmur María Arnarsdóttir) arrives in the city by bus,...

Not only do Blumhouse productions tend to have such low budgets that it’s difficult for them to fail, but the company also makes so much content that you never go too long without seeing a new release from them. So if one disappoints, they have another chance to impress soon after. The Exorcist: Believer wasn’t well-received? That’s okay, Five Nights at Freddy’s is right around the corner. Night Swim didn’t live up to the success they had with M3GAN last year? Well, let’s see how Imaginary does on March 8th. With the release of Imaginary just one month away, a new poster for the film has arrived online and can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Imaginary is the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island.

Universal, Blumhouse and co-producer James Wan took us for a Night Swim in theaters over the weekend, with the Bryce McGuire-directed horror movie becoming the genre’s very first theatrical release of the new year. Was it a strong start for the horror genre, you ask?
Night Swim debuted in 3,250 theaters across the United States over the weekend, opening to $12 million domestically. Worldwide, the film scared up $17.6 million in its debut.
Here’s the day-to-day breakdown here in the United States:
Friday, January 5: $5,250,000 Saturday, January 6: $4,180,000 Sunday, January 7: $2,570,000
For the sake of comparison, Blumhouse’s M3GAN was released in January of last year, and the viral appeal of the title character drove the film to a $30 million domestic opening. Granted, nobody in their right mind expected Night Swim to perform the way M3GAN did.
Other recent Blumhouse releases and their domestic opening weekend totals include Five Nights at Freddy’s...

There isn’t a single scare tactic in Night Swim that isn’t familiar from countless other films. From the start, horror tropes abound: jump scares punctuated by loud noises on the soundtrack; voices emanating from a drain; creepy mud-soaked girls crawling out of the water; promises of ancient curses; computer searches that lead to missing persons; apparitions that disappear the moment they appear; and teary, rain-soaked goodbyes. Except it all happens around a private swimming pool, which here remains about as frightening as a fish tank.

It’s a safe bet that there are more than a few folks with irrational fears of swimming pools at night. Sharks, alligators, drains that suck insides out, it is all very real for a moment. And now, Blumhouse has a new fright flick to start off your 2024. Night Swim stars Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon as a couple moving into a new home with a mysterious pool. Written and directed by Bryce McGuire and based on his own 2014 short film. So far, box office tracking suggests this might be a sleeper hit.

Traditionally the first month of the year has been a dumping ground as studios have steered clear of the residual glow of the holiday blockbusters and the prestige films audiences try to catch up on before the awards begin to air. January may not be the best time to launch your new $300 million budgeted tent pole franchise picture, but it has proven a great launch pad for moderately budgeted horror films.
Over the past ten years we have seen films such as Texas Chainsaw (2013- $21.7 million opening), Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014- $18.3 million opening), Insidious: The Last Key (2018- $29.5 million opening), Escape Room (2019- $18.2 million opening), Scream (2022- $33.8 million opening) and M3GAN (2023- $30.4 million opening) show that audiences like to kick off their new years with a little bit of spine tingling scares.

Exclusive: Comedic multi-hyphenate Julio Torres (A24’s Problemista) has struck a deal with Ars Nova, the Off-Broadway, non-profit theater in NYC, that will see them partner to identify, develop, and commission full-length projects from early-career comedy artists.
The collaboration further expands Ars Nova’s two-decade commitment to new comedy at a time when support systems for NYC-based artists have decreased. Under the partnership, Torres and Ars Nova will look to provide comedians with opportunities for development and production outside of the traditional model of sketch shows and 10-minute sets. They’ll offer funding up front to create brand new, uniquely theatrical shows, while providing mentorship and development resources to the artists involved, the first set for a commission being Ars Nova Vision Residency Alum River L. Ramirez. Others will be announced at a later date.
To celebrate the alliance, Torres will return to the Ars Nova stage on October 26 to host Showgasm.

The Disney remakes, loathed by cinephiles and loved by movie theater owners, make their return this Memorial Day weekend with Rob Marshall’s live-action/CGI take on the 1989 classic “The Little Mermaid.” Like other remakes of Disney Renaissance films, it should be a huge box office hit and have a shot at $1 billion worldwide.
Current box office tracking has “The Little Mermaid” earning a four-day opening of $110-$120 million, placing it in the range of the $116 million four-day start of the remake of “Aladdin” released on Memorial Day weekend in 2019. Some rival distributors tell TheWrap they believe that the film could have an extended opening of over $125 million. Reception for the film has been generally positive — with particular praise for Halle Bailey as Ariel — as the film currently has a 73% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Originally released in the US at the end of December 2021, with no fanfare, publicity, or (at the time) even an IMDb page, War of the Worlds: Annihilation is the latest film made by The Asylum exclusively for US streaming service Tubi and now making its UK debut via 101 Films. Like their first Tubi original film, Swim, I’ve found their films to be hit or miss, usually miss and the way this was originally dumped quietly in the middle of the holiday season didn’t do anything to make me hopeful about what I was about to watch.

It was bound to happen. Netflix started making and showing original movies, then Amazon, and then Tubi followed suit with Swim. But as Tubi is not a thing here in the UK (thanks Gdpr) we’ve instead had to wait almost two years for the film to hit Blighty. However, don’t get too excited. Given their budget and “free with commercials” format of its source, this isn’t The Irishman or The Tomorrow War. This shark in the house film was made by The Asylum and their frequent director Jared Cohn from a script by Anthony C. Ferrante… so don’t expect Jaws either!
The Samson family Lacey, her father Noah, and kids Charlotte (Brett Hargrave; Weedjies: Halloweed Night) and Tucker (Daniel Grogan) are renting a beach house.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Chet Hanks has hit back at Eric André, who recently accused him of “breaking” the crew during a guest appearance on his show.
The 39-year-old comic hosts The Eric André Show, an absurdist unscripted sketch programme that parodies late-night talk shows. It features interviews with celebrities and celebrity impersonators, interspersed with chaotic man-on-the-street-type segments.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, André recalled Hanks, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, allegedly engaging in “dangerous” behaviour while on set of the Adult Swim series.
Shortly after the interview was published (on 14 March), Hanks responded to André, labelling him “emotionally disturbed”.
“Had no idea you were such a p***y,” Hanks wrote, tagging him in an Instagram Story.
Hanks then followed up with a subsequent video, sharing his side of the story.
“So Eric André invites me onto his show. I had never seen it before, so I started watching episodes.

“The wait is finally over. We broke a lot of hearts, sets, and famous people’s publicists to bring you our most chaotic season so far. We’ve barely recovered,” Eric Andre explains in a statement regarding the return of his absurdist, satirical deconstruction of the talk show that airs on Adult Swim. The Eric Andre Show is now set to return for season 6 and has established a premiere date on Sunday, June 4, at Midnight Et/Pt, according to Deadline.
In this new season, Andre will welcome guests that includes Natasha Lyonne, Jaleel White, Blac Chyna, Jon Hamm, Raven-Symoné, Diplo, Daymond John, Meagan Good, Rico Nasty, Waka Flocka Flame, Tinashe, Cypress Hill, and Lil Yachty among others. Felipe Esparza, Reese W, and Krft Punk will co-host.

On Jan. 9, Hulu debuted its animated comedy Koala Man, the latest installment in what was then Justin Roiland’s sprawling empire. An absurdist superhero series that features a voice cast with Hugh Jackman and Succession‘s Sarah Snook, the project seemed to cap off a particularly prolific period for its producer. In a matter of months, Roiland had released a hit video game, put a collection of paintings on exhibit, aired a sixth season of his Adult Swim juggernaut Rick and Morty, and snagged a fifth season for his other Hulu series, Solar Opposites.
Three days later, that image as a high-flying animation maestro came crashing down. On Jan. 12, NBC News revealed that Roiland was facing two felony charges in Orange County stemming from an alleged 2020 domestic violence incident that occurred with a woman he was dating at the time. That August, he was arrested and released on bail. Roiland has pleaded not guilty.

Few works of pop culture have a higher barrier to entry than “On Cinema at the Cinema,” but even fewer are as rewarding to new viewers willing to invest countless hours of their lives. Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington’s longtime Adult Swim series is ostensibly a parody of syndicated movie review shows like “Siskel & Ebert & the Movies,” with the entirety of each episode taking place on a chintzy talk show set. But over the course of 12 seasons and countless spinoffs, it has evolved into something much, much weirder.
Each episode features Heidecker and Turkington hosting their own public access show about movies, with the two men reviewing films they clearly haven’t seen (a running gag is that every single film receives a perfect “five bags of popcorn” rating). But the real action begins when the reviews end, as they frequently devote a majority of their airtime...

What if the only way to stop the end of the world was by making love to an older version of yourself who claimed to be from the future? What if you brought someone back to life, but they annoyed you so much that you were tempted to just kill them again? These are just two of the many bold and bizarre “what ifs?” featured in Tiny Cinema, Tyler Cornack’s new anthology that world premiered as the opening night movie at this year’s Popcorn Frights Film Festival. And no matter how “out there” or uncomfortable these questions may seem, Cornack (who also co-wrote the anthology along with Ryan Koch and Bill Morean) does not shy away from answering them in brazen, comical, and at times disturbing fashion, with many of the film’s segments feeling like they would be right at home airing in the late-night hours alongside...

Where to Watch “Joe Pera Talks with You”: Adult Swim (the first two seasons are also available to stream on HBO Max)
Season 3 of “Joe Pera Talks with You,” released in 2021, is set in 2018. It’s not that this is a show driven by nostalgia for a world three years gone by. It’s that fully appreciating everything that’s around you just takes a different pace.
The opening episodes of the show introduced Joe Pera (Joe Pera) as a tour guide of sorts through the points of interest in his northern Michigan surroundings. That season brings as much discovery for Joe as he tries to create for his audience through the cracks in the fourth wall. (“Joe Pera Reads You the Church Announcements” is still one of the purest TV delights of the past decade.)

Emmanuel Courcol channels the feel-good energy of films like The Full Monty or Francophone dramedy Sink Or Swim for his latest, which fictionalises the true story of Swedish actor Jan Jönson's attempt to help prisoners stage a version of Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot.
Transporting the action to France, versatile star Kad Merat takes on the role of Étienne Carboni, an actor whose dreams of becoming a household name have remained just that. Étienne's latest project sees him venture inside the walls of a prison to provide theatre workshops for the inmates. It is here that he becomes inspired to try to stage Beckett's absurdist classic - after all, he reasons, few are more familiar with the concept of waiting in the same place and performing the same rituals day after day than prisoners.
Courcol's film unfolds across its ensemble as Étienne works with Patrick (David Ayala), Kamel (Sofian Khammes), Moussa (Wabinlé.

Fox-owned AVOD platform Tubi is ramping up its move into originals and a Bruce Willis-fronted sci-fi feature film is its latest project.
The Die Hard star is fronting Corrective Measures, an original feature film for the free platform. Starring alongside Guardians of the Galaxy’s Michael Rooker, the feature film comes from director Sean O’Reilly, whose credits include animated feature Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom and When Calls The Heart.
Based on a graphic novel, the film is set in San Tiburon, the world’s most dangerous maximum-security penitentiary and home to the world’s most treacherous superpowered criminals where tensions among the inmates and staff heighten, leading to anarchy that engulfs the prison and order is turned upside down.

Kat Graham is gone—meet Toro Gato. The former Vampire Diaries star debuted her true identity during E! News' Daily Pop on Aug. 31. "I think that we as entertainers have this identity that we have to give to the public and be presentable, and I think sometimes we forget our core and our truth," Toro Gato exclusively explained today. "As our artist, I want to explore that with this Toro Gato project and this entire Nft collection. I wanted to kind of dismantle my former identity." The "Swim" singer continued, "I actually bury myself in one of these films. So this is a new version. They say it's the alter ego but I actually think the...
