Regé-Jean Page is pulling another role out of the bag. The Bridgerton breakout will star in Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Focus Features acquired the project last month, after The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the filmmaker was shopping the package with Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender attached to star. Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp penned the script, which is described a a spy thriller.
Page became a globally known star thanks to Netflix’s Bridgerton, where he played heartthrob Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. He opted not to return for season two, and the actor has since moved on to a big screen career, starring in Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and signing on to star in a reboot of The Saint for the studio. He also appeared in the Russo Bros. action movie The Gray Man for Netflix.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are set to star in a prequel to the iconic heist film ‘Oceans 11’, which will explore the origins of the original crew and their romantic entanglements in the 1960s. The film, tentatively titled ‘Oceans 10’, is still in development and has not been officially announced by Warner Bros., but producer Josey McNamara has confirmed that the project is alive and well.
“I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready,” McNamara said in an interview with Collider. He added that the script, written by Olivia Milch, is “fantastic” and that the film will have a “different tone” from the previous ‘Oceans’ movies, which were directed by Steven Soderbergh and starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and others.

First, Rihanna dominated the music industry, with hits like “Umbrella,” “Rude Boy,” and “Diamonds.” But, the industry icon, who’s headed back to the stage with her highly-anticipated Super Bowl performance, does a lot more. Next, she became a business mogul and a successful actor. Over the years, Rihanna has acted in a wide variety of movies and TV shows. Interestingly enough, she was considered for a role in one highly-publicized movie that crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

A24 has picked up the worldwide rights excluding China to “The Farewell” in a deal somewhere between $6 million and $7 million.
The film directed by Lulu Wang and starring Awkwafina tells the story of a Chinese family that opts not to tell their beloved matriarch about her lung cancer diagnosis, instead scheduling an impromptu wedding-reunion to give everyone the chance to say their goodbyes.
The film is based on Wang’s real life and evolved from a story she told on NPR’s popular podcast, “This American Life.”

There’s a good reason that much of Hollywood braves the thin mountain air each year to make the trek to the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s not to check out the nearby ski slopes. The annual launch of the indie film gathering brings with it the possibility of discovering the next big thing in moviemaking. Sundance has played a critical role in the careers of such A-list talent as Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler, David O. Russell, and Quentin Tarantino, and has hosted the premieres of such classics as “Reservoir Dogs,” “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” and “Manchester by the Sea.”
The prospect of finding the rare indie movie that can break out of the arthouse has inspired a lot of all-night bidding wars over the years. Sometimes those frenzied negotiations and massive deals pay off, as was the case with “Brooklyn” or “Fruitvale Station.” In other instances, studios end...

Slated to go before cameras this month. Chaganty and Ohanian penned the script, which follows a teenaged girl, raised in total isolation by her mother (Paulson), whose life begins to unravel as she discovers her mother’s sinister secret.
Searching, Chaganty’s debut directorial feature, was released in August via Sony and was met with favorable reviews. The pic, which was portrayed entirely through phone and computer screens, has since raked in $65 million at the worldwide box office.

With the 43rd annual Toronto International Film Festival ending tonight, and the Venice and Telluride fests now firmly behind us, it is time once again to take the pulse of the nascent Oscar race. Surprisingly there were no total disasters in terms of who is expected to be in the running, but clearly, some did better than others. So here is how the players did at kickoff with an assessment of the contest arranged by studio and distributor. Who’s in, who’s out, who scored biggest at the fests, and who’s got work to do.

It wasn’t a typical summer for Warner Bros., a studio that has long dominated popcorn seasons past with the likes of “The Dark Knight,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and “Wonder Woman.”
This year, the superheroes and post-apocalyptic warriors were missing from the company’s slate, but that didn’t stop Warners from weaving together a string of box office winners. “Ocean’s 8,” “The Meg,” and “Crazy Rich Asians” all combined to put together a memorable summer. Even though “Tag” and “Life of the Party” didn’t set records, both films should end up in the black. What’s particularly impressive is that an era where franchises are the name of the game, Warner Bros. pulled it off by relying heavily on original properties. Only “Ocean’s 8” is part of a pre-existing series, and the film is a spin-off from the George Clooney heist adventures of a decade ago.

“Crazy Rich Asians” continues to pile up new box-office achievements far beyond its bragging rights as an all-Asian-cast film. Its $22,235,000 third weekend is the biggest gross for the Friday-Sunday of a Labor Day weekend since 2007 (when the remake of “Halloween” opened.) Among holdovers, the last one to better it for this date was “The Sixth Sense.”
The lack of major new releases this weekend helped a slew of holdovers. With “Asians” leading the way, this should be the lowest-grossing three-day-weekend since Super Bowl weekend. However, it represents a better than 20 percent improvement over a year ago in which a spectacularly bad Labor Day ended a weak summer. Year to date continues ahead of 2017 by around 10 percent.
Though “Operation Finale” and “Kin” opened wide, and “Searching” expanded, the big news continues to be how “Asians” has caught on as a romantic comedy with a trajectory seen in the massive smash “My Big Fat Greek Wedding...

The official movie summer season ends Labor Day, but it’s already hailed as a winner and deservedly so, particularly in comparison to the anemic summer of 2017. Studios won by doubling down on the formulas they know best (aka sequels and franchises), but with enough tweaking to improve dramatically from the year prior — $4.3 billion vs.$3.7 billion.
Summer to summer saw an increase of about 16 percent at the box office, and nine percent in ticket sales. And that doesn’t even include the $338 million earned by “Avengers: Infinity War” in its first week, which fell outside the official summer start of the first Friday in May.
So: Best summer ever? Not even close. Reviewing the last 25 years, again adjusting grosses to 2018 ticket prices, it would rank in the bottom five. Most had totals above $5 billion. But that’s the new reality of domestic moviegoing, in which foreign theaters provide two thirds...

This summer, audiences saw the release of “Oceans 8” and this fall, we can all look forward to ‘Oceans 88’ (get it?) with “King of Thieves.” The upcoming film tackles a ripped from the headlines story from a few years ago that was just begging to be seen on the big screen, as an aging group of senior citizens plans an epic heist. Turns out, it was already made in 2017 with “The Hatton Garden Job.” The history of movies is full of dueling takes on similar stories and it’ll certainly be interesting to see which take of the infamous heist comes out on top.

With $61.5 million, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” easily took top position this weekend. The sixth entry in the “Mission: Impossible” series performed on a level consistent with past efforts; adjusted to 2018 ticket prices, it ranks fifth of the five titles released wide initially, slightly below “Rogue Nation.” (“Ghost Protocol” had an IMAX-only initial release).
This is repeat of the successful “Oceans 8” a few weeks ago, when unadjusted opening grosses put it ahead of earlier “Oceans” films. It was a distraction to the real story of a female reboot performing well. Similarly, the opening number here doesn’t need the claim of best in series to be called a hit.
Whatever its relative placement among the “Mission” films (or its lead Tom Cruise – adjusted #7 among his films over his long career), it’s a reasonable start. And its $92 million international initial result (with most of the rest of the world yet...

5 Box Office Takeaways at Mid-Year: ‘Star Wars’ in Trouble, Sizzling Superheroes, and Comedy Fatigue
The box office is booming, and it’s all thanks to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Merc with a Mouth, and everyone’s favorite crime-fighting family. Mid-way through 2018, domestic ticket sales are up more than 8%, topping out at nearly $6 billion through the first six months of the year, according to ComScore. It’s the earliest it’s ever reached that figure.
“If you had to sum up the year so far, you could do it in one word — superheroes,” said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst of BoxOffice.com.
In fact, the three highest-grossing films this year — “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Black Panther,” and “Incredibles 2” — all feature costumed heroes. There’s a lot of reason for optimism, unless, of course, you happen to hate comic book movies. Box office analysts believe this summer could be the second highest grossing in history and predict that business could end the year with more than $11 billion in revenues.

With “Oceans 8” and “American Animals” now in theaters, heist movies are having a moment. It’s not hard to see why: During this chaotic chapter in the cultural history of the country, there’s nothing more fun than watching an elaborate cast of characters planning a near-impossible crime, one successfully pulled off with smooth moves, sleight of hand, and winks at the camera.
“American Animals” has become a surprise summer hit at the specialty box office, grossing nearly half a million dollars in its first two weeks. But it’s a different kind of heist movie than anything in the “Ocean’s” franchise. The crime draws from a real-life incident — when four college-aged Kentucky men attempted to steal some rare books from Transylvania University in 2004 — and director Bart Layton flips the script on the audience, by bringing in the real people involved to tell their story alongside the actors midway through.

Chicago – In “Ocean’s 8,” a diamond necklace at the Met Gala isn’t the only thing getting ripped off. This all female knock off provides a reasonable facsimile of a facsimile of the original’s suave swagger, but doesn’t have anything else to go on. “Oceans 11” is a movie that never should have gotten a sequel, much less become some kind of a franchise.

Last night’s episode of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, which led off with Bee’s mix of apology and defiance, saw a dropoff in national advertisers as some brands hit the pause button while the drama over Bee’s c-word usage played out.
Among the national advertisers who stayed in the mix last night were Sony PlayStation, Cascade dish detergent and upcoming summer movie releases Oceans 8 and Jurassic World. On the May 30 episode, by contrast, more than twice as many national spots aired, including ones for blue-chip advertisers like Microsoft, Taco Bell and Geico.
Many conservative media outlets, no doubt emboldened by President Donald Trump leaping to the defense of his daughter, Ivanka, has characterized the week-to-week change as a pullout or boycott by advertisers. But it was notable that no tweets or press releases announced a full-scale withdrawal from the show. This appeared to mostly be a case of brands laying low,...

I don't know about you, but I think that Oceans 8 looks like a lot of fun! Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) is directing the film and as you know, he managed to bring together a pretty impressive cast of talent to star in the film. This new trailer puts the focus on the characters in the story that will be involved with the big heist that they are planning to pull off and it runs through those characters one by one.
The story follows Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock), the sister of Danny, as she attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. To be able to pull this off she assembles the perfect crew, which consists of Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson). Their target is Daphne Kluger,...

I recently arrived in Las Vegas for CinemaCon 2018 and I had some free time on my hands to roam the halls of Ceasar's Palace to check out what new movie posters and theater standees there were on display for some of the upcoming movies.
I've got posters and theaters standees here for Avengers: Infinity War, Incredibles 2, Meg, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, Mile 22, Mission: Impossible Fallout, Bumblebee, Oceans 8, and a sequel to Unbroken, which I didn't even know was a film being made! I also included a photo of a cool little mock up of the set of Mister Roger's Neighborhood for the upcoming documentary, Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Anyway, a lot of these are really fun. I like that the studio marketing teams are having fun and being creative with their theater standees these days.

Australian stage and screen actress Cate Blanchett will serve as President of the Jury of the 71st Festival de Cannes (Tuesday May 8 through Saturday, May 19). She’s the tenth woman to be jury president, following Olivia de Havilland (1965), Sophia Loren (1966), Michele Morgan (1971), Ingrid Bergman (1973), Jeanne Moreau (1975 and 1995), Francoise Sagan (1979), Isabelle Adjani (1997), Liv Ullmann (2001), Isabelle Huppert (1999), and Jane Campion (2014), the only woman to ever win the Palme d’Or.
Blanchett follows President Pedro Almodóvar, whose jury awarded the Palme d’Or to Ruben Östlund’s eventual shortlisted Swedish Oscar entry “The Square.”
“This festival plays a pivotal role in bringing the world together to celebrate story,” said Blanchett, “that strange and vital endeavor that all peoples share, understand and crave.”
Blanchett has long switched between independents and studio features. She starred in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy by Peter Jackson, David Fincher’s “Benjamin Button,” “Babel” by Alejandro González Iñárritu,...

Sarah Paulson is a woman who knows what she wants.
In the February issue of Town & Country magazine, the 43-year-old actress opens up about her relationship with Holland Taylor as well as her thoughts on having children of her own someday.
"I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with," Paulson tells the magazine. "My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business."
As for her bond with Taylor, 74, the Emmy winner adds, "Our relationship represents a certain amount of hope and risk. Maybe there’s something brave in it. Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices. What else can I say? We love each other."

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and poster for the upcoming ‘Ocean’s 8’ spinoff film, and it sure looks like a fun ride. Directed by Gary Ross, the film stars Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s (long lost?) sister. In case you were unaware, ‘Ocean’s 8‘ follows Debbie Ocean. As she too is finally released from prison, Debbie sets out to plan an elaborate heist, along with a little help.
Surprisingly, the idea to create a spinoff film came from a brainstorm session that included Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, and the late, great producer Jerry Weintraub back in 2015. ‘Oceans 8‘ has been in development since October 2015, when Ross (who is good friends with Soderbergh) and Bullock joined the project. It seems that the idea behind the spinoff film is to re-start the franchise with a new, fresh cast.

Few things can make people stop talking about Star Wars: The Last Jedi long enough to watch a new trailer, but the much-anticipated Oceans 8 is one of them.Tuesday's first trailer for the all-female Ocean's Eleven spinoff has inspired a lot of response, so let's get right to them.
Ashley Lee: This Ocean's 8 trailer is a perfect way to close out 2017, which began with the Women's March and has been full of major female-centric milestones. It's also a very good early Christmas present, because it's definitely everything I've ever wanted in a trailer — Rihanna as a...
