Tetramethylenedisulfotetramine (TETS), is a sulfamide (sulfuryl chloride & ammonia) rodenticide (rat poison). It is an odorless, tasteless white powder that is slightly soluble in acetone, Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) and water. TETS acts as a potent neurotoxin that causes fatal convulsions, it blocks certain GABA receptors which interferes with the normal muscle functions causing rapid muscle contractions that lead to a fatal seizure. It is one of the most hazardous pesticides, and is 100 times more toxic than potassium cyanide; its fatal dose in humans is only 7-10 mg. TETS has been banned worldwide since 1984, but since it is easily made using household chemicals it is readily available on the black market. It is frequently used in China still, despite also being banned there, as China's large cities have huge rodent problems. It has also been used in intentional poisonings, in 2004 400 people were poisoned and 38 died from eating pancakes whose batter had been poisoned with TETS by a competitor of the pancake house.
