“The Blackout” marks the directorial debut of Robert David Sanders, and is basically an La set low budget reworking of “The Mist” that now arrives on region 2 DVD via Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment. Written by Jim Beck, the film takes place on Christmas Eve and basically follows a group of reasonably diverse everyday characters in a suburban apartment block, who run into trouble when a series of tremors cause a city wide electrical blackout. They quickly come to realise that things are far more serious than they seem, as a horde of vicious creatures emerge from a fissure in the building’s basement and proceed to kill and eat everyone they come across. Trapped and with no real hope of rescue, the group begin a desperate fight for survival as they try to figure out what has happened and whether or not they have any chance of stopping it. Although “The Blackout...

If you love monster movies anywhere near as much as I do, then keep your eyes peeled for the UK DVD release of Robert David Sanders’ nocturnal beast-fest The Blackout; arriving August 30th from Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment.
While it certainly has its failings, it’s a decent enough monster mash for an evening’s entertainment. You can check out Foy’s existing The Blackout review here.
Special Features include the theatrical trailer.

How many times have you sat at some lame extended family Christmas gathering hoping that a giant monster would emerge from the basement and save you from mind-numbing small-talk. Never? Huh, I guess I'm on my own then.
A series of earthquakes causes Los Angeles to do dark during Christmas eve and then a giant monster starts terrorizing a downtown high-rise complex. That my friends is all you need to know. And yes, the poster art is blatantly ripping off the the amazing Feast franchise, but whatever, it works.

As if Los Angeles didn't have enough problems. In The Blackout , a series of earthquakes around the Christmas holiday gives way to a monster problem in the downtown area. The Robert David Sanders-directed film was completed in late 2008 and over the last year has been finding distribution worldwide (no word yet on the U.S.). Over at the official site for production outfit Starway Pictures they've got both a teaser and trailer for The Blackout which you can watch Here . This is Sanders' feature debut And yes, that's the promo art they're going out with on the left. They lose points for ripping off Feast 's campaign. Nevertheless, interesting concept and trailer. Give it a look. We'll leave you with the official synopsis: When an apartment building's lights go out...
