Director Jose Luis Merino happily discusses making the nifty 1973 horror feature "The Hanging Woman" in this enjoyable and informative 21 minute interview short. Merino, who comes across like a smart and practical down-to-earth fellow, reveals that he came up with the whole story while out for a walk and that he considers the film to be an adventure movie instead of a fright flick. He confesses that he was afraid he might have trouble with the censors over the touchy and distasteful subject of necrophilia, but surprisingly they left him alone. Moreover, Merino describes late, great Spanish horror icon Paul Naschy as a marvelous guy with a true love and passion for the horror genre. In addition, Merino admits he prefers shooting in a studio over shooting on location because you have more control. Merino also talks about the score, make-up, and meddlesome producers trying to steal story credit. Worth seeing for fans of the film.
