Lets face it: you already know whether youre going to like this movie or not from the title alone, right? The Asylum Mega- franchise has garnered itself a fair number of fans over the past few years, with high-brow classics such as Mega Piranha and last years super-popular Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus doing the business for Syfy’s viewership by providing an ultra-cheap form of entertainment enjoyed more for its laughable acting and special effects than its stellar writing or innovative filmmaking.
The plot comes straight out of Piranha, with once-thought-extinct goblin sharks emerging from cracks left in the ocean floor after a number of earthquakes, resulting in a flash tsunami that covers the west coast of America with high water, including the titular Malibu. The film follows two groups of people...

Get ready, horror fans- there’s a storm brewing this week in New York City that’s wielding killer sharks and all kinds of wonderfully over-the-top chaos in Anthony C. Ferrante’s Sharknado 2: The Second One, which makes its debut tonight on SyFy.
During the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con, Daily Dead chatted with director Ferrante, the sequel’s star Ian Ziering, and co-stars Vivica A. Fox and Judah Friedlander about their experiences making the film in New York City and their thoughts on the pop culture frenzy surrounding the Sharknado films.
Ian Ziering on the phenomena of Sharknado: The experience itself has been overwhelming. I never expected these movies to become what they’ve become. This is a low-budget science fiction movie and you never know when you initially come on board a project like this what the final product is going to be. And I originally never thought...

Just when you thought it was safe to... actually, it's probably not safe to do anything anymore without getting your ass bitten off, thanks to SyFy's seemingly bottomless well of shark-based cinematic insanity. If you thought Sharknado was the final word in weather-themed monster shark scenarios (and a lot of people did – that flick was a hit), then you've underestimated the makers of Avalanche Sharks (and to answer your next question, it might get retitled Sharkalanche), who are apparently merging the concept of 2009's Malibu Shark Attack with a frosty variation on 2011's Sand Sharks. Plus, it looks like the finned fiend comes from outer space this time. The trailer (which debuted this week at Fangoria) pretty much speaks for itself... so bundle up, grab onto something and press play!

After Sharknado and Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus, Syfy's latest TV film may signal a downhill turn for the frenzy of shark movies

I'm about to say something that's bound to ruffle a few feathers. I'm going to be dismissive of sharks. And I'm going to do it on the internet. Telling the internet that you're bored with sharks is madness. It's like telling the internet that you're bored with cat gifs, or ironic moustaches, or pretending that everything is either much more or much less sexist than it actually is. It's asking for trouble.
And yet, now that the Syfy channel is making a TV movie about an avalanche full of sharks, this must be said. To use the parlance of this publication, I'm worried we may be reaching "peak shark".
The film is called Avalanche Sharks. It doesn't have a broadcast date yet,...

Thanks to Fangoria, we now have the trailer for "Avalanche Sharks," which continues the obsessions of making ridiculous shark movies. This one happens to be a sequel to "Sand Sharks" that was released recently and had sharks attacking people in sand. Check out the trailer for "Avalanche Sharks" below. Plot: After a massive avalanche, the staff of Twin Pines Ski Resort begin to receive reports of missing people and creatures that move beneath the snow. As the body count slowly begins to pile up, the management tries to cover up the situation, which eventually leads to disaster on their busiest day of the year: Bikini Snow Day. "Avalanche Sharks" is directed by Scott Wheeler (Transmorphers) from a script by Keith Shaw (Malibu Shark Attack). Trailer:...

Proving nowhere is safe from the clutches of the Great White – not the ocean, nor air, nor land, and now not even mountainside – is Avalanche Sharks. For now, because God is a cruel and unpredictable force, he has given our greatest enemy the ability to appear out of water, without warning to swim through the snow and rain chaos down upon our snowboarding trips. If a normal avalanche wasn’t enough, the staff at this ski resort is receiving reports of missing persons (and blooood) that they keep trying to cover up to save face for their busiest day of the year. You have to guess what that is. It’s Bikini Snow Day, obviously. With the mountainside covered in drunk, horny co-eds, the ancient snow sharks have awakened their taste for human flesh, and now must feast. Cue an hour and a half of frantic, bikini-clad sprinting through the snow as it gets sprayed with blood...

"Sharknado" may be the ultimate Syfy Original Movie. It's about sharks. Sharks caught up in a tornado. Ian Ziering, once of "Beverly Hills 90210," and Tara Reid are in charge of saving the world from the killer flying fish-monsters.
Could anything be better?
Syfy obviously thinks that "more" equals "better." Because of this, the cable network will surround "Sharknado" with seven other shark-themed disaster films. Yes, Syfy has seven more shark-themed disaster films.
Actually, the original movie-loving network has way more than seven ("Jersey Shore Shark Attack" anyone?), but that's the number getting airtime on Thursday, July 8. In all, Syfy will present an eight-movie marathon of shark destruction throughout the day.
The insanity begins at 9am on Thursday with the aptly named "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus." Following that, we get "Malibu Shark Attack," "Sharktopus," "Swamp Shark" and "Super Shark." The main event, "Sharknado," takes the prime-time position at 9pm, and...

Sharks are having the best decade ever. Although Steven Spielberg made you want to stay out of the water, a whole new generation of filmmakers is interested in making you afraid of sand, Malibu, and, now, ski resorts. It seems like the next logical step in the subgenre’s progression if you ask me. After all, someone is already stuck them in a tornado, so why not have them flopping around inside an avalanche? It’s all about moving forward. “Transmorphers” director Scott Wheeler and “Malibu Shark Attack” writer Keith Shaw are hoping you’re ready for “Avalanche Sharks,” a film which finds these massive oceanic killers attacking scantily-clad individuals at a ski resort during Bikini Snow Day. Yes, Bikini Snow Day. I swear I haven’t had anything to drink this morning. I wouldn’t believe me, either. Here’s the official synopsis: After a horrific avalanche, the staff...

SyFy has done it again! In its grand tradition of monster B-movies, the network has enlisted "Wonder Years" child star Danica McKellar, as well as Olympian (and "Dancing with the Stars" alum) Apolo Ohno, for its latest film, "Tasmanian Devils."
In the movie, Ohno plays a daredevil base-jumper who tresspasses on a remote mountain in Tasmania -- and then plummets to his death in a bloody encounter with an angry nest of, you guessed it, Tasmanian devils. The base-jumpers have revived an ancient aboriginal curse, and McKellar's character is an expert on the creatures who, obviously, goes into battle.
Let's just say the movie is a far cry from Winnie Cooper.
"Tasmanian Devils" was the directorial debut of Zach Lipovsky, the special effects master who got to the finals on Stephen Spielberg's reality competition series "On The Lot."

Stop us when this sounds familiar. The locals shopping in a small town supermarket are terrorized by a madmen...when the market, which happens to be underground, is hit by a tsunami, trapping everyone in side with their captor...and a great white shark or two. Yeah, that last one got ya', didn't it? Actually, Bait isn't the first 'people trapped in a tsunami-flooded building versus shark' movie. That honor belongs to Malibu Shark Attack, which would have gone up three letter grades had it kept its original title, Goblin Shark Attack. While that gem (not really) had the Syfy channel's seal of approval and starred Peta Wilson, Bait is produced by Australian genre regular Russell Mulcahy (Razorback, Resident Evil: Extinction) and stars Sharni Vinson (who is...

Hey yo, so these friggin' sharks, right? They come swimmin' intah our wahtas like they own the place. They dunno who they're messin' whit, ya know. Tha's aight, though ... we got somethin' for them fishy mamalukes!

Syfy cast Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts on "The Sopranos"), Paul Sorvino (Paul Cicero in Goodfellas), Jack Scalia ("Dallas"), Joey Fatone (‘N Sync), and William Atherton (Die Hard) in the film. Of course the cast wouldn’t be complete without some chum from MTV’s "Jersey Shore" — it also stars Vinny Guadagnino.

Those "Ice Road Truckers" you watch on the History Channel are used to contending with driving over frozen lakes and roads and other dangerous subzero conditions near the Arctic Circle. Syfy's Ice Road Terror introduces a road hazard those brave truckers aren't used to dealing with: an unfrozen prehistoric monster.
Ice Road Terror stars Brea Grant ("Heroes"), Ty Olsson ("Battlestar Galactica"), Dylan Neal ("Dawson's Creek"), and Malcolm Stewart ("Kyle Xy"). Terry Ingram, a filmmaker no stranger to making TV movies about unholy terrors having previously helmed Phantom Racer, Odysseus: Voyage to the Underworld, and Paparazzi Princess: The Paris Hilton Story, directs from a script by Keith Shaw (Malibu Shark Attack, Phantom Racer).

The Sci-Fi Channel's name change to Syfy makes me think of a scene from the classic miniseries "Roots". The evil white man wanted to change Kunta Kinte's name to Toby. They whipped him until he said it. Afterwards, a fellow African told him they can call him whatever they want; he knows his true name is Kunta Kinte. Bonnie Hammer can use that bullwhip on me all she wants; I know that Syfy will always be Sci-Fi, and not just because the words are pronounced exactly the same.
