Chapter Five raises the tension and suspension, character development and action follows in the anticipated confrontation with Eclipso
Holt3448 September 2021
Summer School: Chapter Five is directed by producer, Sheelin Choksey. The episode follows the events of the previous episode which had Cindy organizing the new ISA and also the Crocks escaping prison to see their daughter's tryouts. There were a lot of character development and world building. This episode has Pat and Courtney clash over their next steps in their search for Eclipso, ominous weather conditions in Blue Valley hint that he may be near. Meanwhile, Cindy's plan to recruit another student takes an unexpected turn, and Cameron opens up to Courtney.

The darker tone continues in this episode and I like that the writers and producers stayed true to their words, Eclipso is a dark villain and perfect for the show. We finally got to see some of him in the flesh and the visual effects was better than I expected. The Shade continues to be a great character. It's also nice to see that Cameron Mahkent has a larger role in this season, being the son of the villain and sharing the same powers as Icicle, I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for him and Artemis. I did like a lot about this episode but some of the writing for the light-hearted and romantic plot wasn't good, it felt forced and full of cliche. But other than that, good writing. I want to praise the voice acting that Nick E. Tarabay is doing for Eclipso, it's really good and terrifying which is needed.

Good episode!

This was a very good episode. I like that Pat is trying to include Mike, and that everyone is doing their best together. I have to admit that I feel sorry about the children of the villains. I think they deserve better. Also, I am wondering about Cameron future.

This show is so weird. It's apparently sunny, and cute and optimistic, but in the first season there were several casualties including teenagers. The stories are actually quite dark and grim, only the envelope is shiny and Courtney family is lovely.

I am also wondering if near the final confrontation we will see the JSA receiving help from others, like Jade and the Thunderbolt. That would be good.

Getting darker and I like it!
sanjuparampil8 September 2021
The show's getting real now. Last season was basically full of teen heroes teaming up to defeat villains. But this one it's going to be more than that.

I really like eclipso as the villain, brings more darkness than last season. Also CGI was great. If you guys give it a chance this is gonna be great.

It's getting real now.

Warning: Spoilers
This series is by far one of the most lighthearted entries in the DCTV canon, but this episode marks when things are officially getting real.

We have heard many people say how dangerous of a threat Eclipso is, but we got to witness how powerful this evil entity really is, and how much damage it can inflict upon the JSA.

It was literally a horror theme episode, and I loved every second of it.

VFX, "heroism" and lameness
cjonesas20 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 5: A darker episode with good VFX, nice acting and some unrealistic happenings. If Eclipso is as strong as it seems, it wouldn't run away from some light emitted by the staff.

The episode was good, it just had the look of wasted potentials with no hurting, nor afflicted wounds for the "heroes", which is a big minus by itself and makes the show too 12-16 y.o friendly.

Note: IMDb, reviews seem to have problems updating. Please fix it to the way it was.

Horror!

Warning: Spoilers
Oh yes; the flashbacks. A young girl screams, and her mother comes: the daughter claims that her dad was terrorizing her. She goes back to sleep with the lights off. The girl screams again. Courtney fails after trying to find Shade, Pat tells more about Eclipso affecting the weather patterns but affecting Blue Valley the most. Oooh, looks like someone has a crush on Courtney. Too bad, Paul noticed his drawings about her. But, I also like the fact that he doesn't tell her, lol. He eventually stumbles upon Cindy in the art room. Cindy almost kills Cam with her dagger until Paul comes in giving him his sketchbook that he forgot. Cindy uses Eclipso on Paul, he questions if there's anyone around. Eclipso doesn't respond. Rick comes in the Pit Stop. Pat warns Beth that her goggles weren't intercepted by Dr. McNider, but by Eclipso. Paul lately has been coughing real bad, dismissing the class. He pukes out... art? Courtney stumbles upon Cam. Oh great, teenage angst. Give me a break. Eclipso further taunts Paul. The team gathers together on the Football Field. They see that Paul's car is still in the parking lot. They enter the art room, and it is a f** god damn mess... Yolanda screams after seeing a painting of Brainwave but snaps out of it. Eclipso is here! Rick punches the door. Eclipso taunts the whole team about their traumatic experience. Holy s***, I am digging this horror while the music is making it highly suspenseful. Eclipso has taken the form of Paul. Courtney uses the Cosmic Staff on him, restoring Paul back. Paul is under medical care. I feel bad for him. Pat realizes that Eclispo's powers are getting more powerful beyond the black diamond. Beth has enough, asking her parents why are they divorcing. It's a complicated answer. Cindy's next target is Mike. Cam continues working until he suffers some hand cramps and drops his on what seems to be an ice-covered paintbrush.

Thoughts?

I can't wait to see more of Eclipso, more darkness, please!

9/10.
