I really didn't know much about the topic before I saw this documentary. The idea that people were put through such horrific treatment and that this landed so squarely upon the heads of the young was somewhat of a shock. I'm sure that this is part of the reason that it struck me so powerfully and Klara's telling affected me so deeply. She is the kind of woman who reminds everyone that strength is in the soul and not the body. The story is the only recorded escape from Auschwitz after having been sentenced to death by the Nazi "doctor" Dr. Mengele. Her journey is a testament to the human spirit and the strength that even a teenage girl has to stand up to the machinery of death, and win.
