Overpaid. Arrogant. Immoral.
As each season goes by, the number of negative adjectives attributed to being a footballer increases. The culture that exists within the beautiful game has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, the London 2012 Olympics giving stark contrast to the behaviour and sportsmanship that exists outside the nation’s favourite sport.
However, there are always two sides to every coin. For every Bradley Wiggins, there’s a Lance Armstrong, for every Mo Farah, there’s a Dwain Chambers and for every Michael Phelps, there’s an entire Australian swimming team.
With last weekend’s Ligue 1 spectacle between Psg and Marseille being billed as Good vs Evil, could the same be said for footballers?
Hidden away under all the scandal and greed that seems to plague every national newspaper’s back page, I’ll be presenting 5 examples that all footballers aren’t inherently evil, but first, let...

We live in a era of media filled with cardboard cut out heroes, ad lib level storytelling, and dialogue so plastic it’s hard to tell if wasn’t just written to move the actors to the next scene. Innovators are few and far between, because unfortunately, the idiotic masses decide which movies and games should be considered the “best.”
But thankfully, there are two men are out there being rebels, doing whatever they feel like doing: step forward Suda 51 and Quentin Tarantino – the rockstars of their respective fields, making movies and games that are so odd, yet never feel cosmetic in the strangeness.
It’s a shame that we can’t have more people who feel as genuine or as genuinely talented as these two men, but sadly few have truly recognized Suda 51‘s potential as an artist. He is a punk game-maker, an exploitation specialist in the grandest tradition,...

This is a reprint of our review from the London Flim Festival in 2011.
For fans of the crime genre, both on the page and on the screen, Scandinavia has been the hottest source of new material in recent years (although obviously not literally). Steig Larsson's Millennium trilogy was a huge bestseller worldwide, and has already provided three Swedish films and David Fincher's remake "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," while Kenneth Branagh has had great success on TV as Henning Mankell's "Wallander," and Danish series "The Killing" proved a huge hit at home and in the U.K, and was remade on AMC under the same name.
The latest hot ticket is Jo Nesbø, a Norwegian former journalist who sprung to fame with a series of novels focusing on Detective Harry Hole, a loose canon in the Oslo police force. The first of those books to break out internationally,...

There were some interesting sights on day one of Austin City Limits, but day two was no slouch on the “weird” either. I witnessed a full-grown man wearing only women’s underwear, several tween girls attempt crowd surfing for the first time, and an elderly woman with Skrillex clearly circled on her schedule. Just another typical day at Acl, where the weirder you are, the more welcome you seem to be.
First on the agenda were MTV Vma performers Young the Giant. Mere seconds before Ytg took the stage, the sky dropped a sudden downpour of rain (two days in a row now after three months of zilch). The rain was coming down rather hard and was a bit chilly as everyone was expecting dry, 100-plus degree weather throughout the weekend, but the many hippies I saw doing “rain dances” must’ve worked their magic.
