- CANDY is an eight-part mystery edge-of-the-seat thriller, set during a cold winter in fictitious Rudrakund in the lap of the Himalayas.
We journey under the skin of this quiet hill town, buried in snow and years of colonial nostalgia. Here, new resident - broken school teacher JAYANT PAREKH, played by the dynamic Mr. Ronit Bose Roy - is trying to move on from a grave personal tragedy , the suicide of his daughter two years ago. But life has other plans.
One of his students, Mehul Awasthi is found brutally murdered in the woods. Another student, Kalki Rawat is missing and presumed dead. Jayant was a mentor to these kids and feels personally responsible.
The mystery thickens when Kalki turns up at his house in the dead of the night, claiming that she witnessed Mehul being murdered by a demon that locals claim haunts the woods. Jayant is unable to fathom this incredible story and hides the traumatised Kalki in his house, while he dons the mantle of an amateur detective and goes sleuthing.
This puts him in conflict with Rudrakund's top officer, DSP RATNA SANKHAWAR, essayed by the gifted Ms. Richa Chadda. The fierce officer has made some questionable life choices as she deals with her special needs child at home.
The motivated teacher discovers that Mehul's death might be connected to a hush-hush racket in school, where drugs are smuggled to kids, drugs that look just like the innocuous candy that is manufactured in town.
But the crooked cop is not willing to consider the evidence Jayant presents to her as she is on the payroll of Rudrakund's local vidhayak and uncrowned king MONEY RANAUT, played by the versatile Mr. Manu Rishi Chadda, in whose factory the candy is manufactured.
Thrown in this wicked mix are Nakul Sahdev's VAYU, Money's wastrel son and Gopal Dutt's hapless HEADMASTER THOMAS, and the malevolent mystery deepens.
Jayant realizes the town is keen on brushing the murder under the carpet. His persistence for justice forces Ratna to reevaluate her life's choices. She turns a new page and joins Jayant to hunt the killer. But the biggest question facing this unlikely pair of sleuths is whether a fancy new drug is behind the fiasco or is it the beast in the forest?
Candy promises to be an exciting edge-of-the-seat thriller, with oodles of character drama and sinister mysterious twists to keep the binge viewer riveted and asking for more.
