Exclusive: USA Network is encouraging a group of contestants to stay anonymous with its latest unscripted competition series.
The NBCUniversal cabler has ordered The Anonymous (w/t) from Studio Lambert, the All3Media-backed production company behind series such as Peacock’s The Traitors and Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge.
The series is a game of social strategy where people are free to say what they really feel behind the safety of a mask. What would you say and do if nobody was watching you?
It is played in two worlds: the real world, where players interact face to face, but also a digital world, where the players communicate behind a mask of anonymity, known as Anonymous Mode. Here in individual private hideouts, each player is free to say whatever they want to advance their game.
The question is: Can they stay anonymous or will the other players guess their...

Ever since its inaugural season was honored with the 2018 Emmy for Best Structured Reality Program, “Queer Eye” has dominated the category and shows no signs of stopping. In its quest for its sixth consecutive victory, the lifestyle series faces four shows that have each lost to it at least once before and have existed for an average of 15 years. Included among them is “Shark Tank,” which won here four years in a row before “Queer Eye” came along and ended its streak.
Indeed, only “Shark Tank” and “Queer Eye” have triumphed in this category since it splintered off from the catch-all Best Reality Program one in 2014. The three 2023 nominees attempting to become the third series to take this specific prize are “Antiques Roadshow,” “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” and “Love Is Blind.”

Justin Hartley is heading back to the Super Bowl. Hartley’s new CBS drama “Tracker” has landed the best lead-in imaginable for a series premiere: The show has landed the coveted post-Super Bowl slot next season, launching behind Super Bowl Lviii on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.
Hartley, of course, knows a thing or two about that slot. As one of the stars of NBC’s “This Is Us,” he watched a Crock Pot tear his TV family apart in that show’s very special “Super Bowl Sunday” episode, airing right after the big game in 2018.
In premiering “Tracker” after the Super Bowl, CBS continues its return to the once-common practice of using the biggest night on TV to launch a new series. The last time CBS ran the game, in 2021, the network premiered “The Equalizer” behind Super Bowl Lv. (It worked: “The Equalizer” is still on the air.) The time before that,...

Money Court has heard its last case. CNBC has canceled the series, the news coming shortly after the cable network pulled the plug on Jay Leno’s Garage. The cancellations are part of a shift in strategy for CNBC. According to Deadline — which reported the demise of Money Court — CNBC is “moving out of original, primetime entertainment programming.” As another part of that shift, CNBC execs Denise Contis and Timothy Kuryak will exit the network, along with marketing execs and other higher-ups at the network. Contis was executive vice president and head of content for CNBC Primetime, while Kuryak was executive producer at CNBC Prime. Now CNBC will fill in the gaps in its schedule with repeats of Shark Tank, Undercover Boss, American Greed, and other shows, Deadline adds. In a rather cold bit of news, CNBC has decided not to renew Jay Leno’s Garage for their primetime schedule, according to Deadline. CNBC’s newly appointed president, Kc Sullivan, chose not to renew the show as they plan to continue with predominantly business-related reality shows in their lineup for the primetime schedule, such as Shark Tank and Undercover Boss.
The timing is rough, as Leno had recently suffered facial burns from an accident involving gasoline spraying in his face while working on 1907 White Steam Car. “I was underneath it, trying to unclog it, and so I said, blow some air through the line. then suddenly I got a face full of gas and then the pilot light jumped and my face caught on fire.” Leno was hospitalized for his injuries but was also cleared after spending ten days at the hospital, which included skin graft surgeries.

CNBC is dropping Jay Leno’s Garage, the classic car series that capitalized on the comedian’s prized collection, after seven seasons.
The network chose not to renew the series after seven seasons, a source confirmed. Kc Sullivan, named president last year, has chosen to focus on business oriented reality shows in the primetime lineup, including Shark Tank and Undercover Boss.

According to a memo from CNBC president Kc Sullivan, Last Call will be a “fast-paced, entertaining business show that explores the intersection of money, culture and policy,” and include newsmaker interviews, panel discussions, and debate segments.
The program effectively replaces The News with Shepard Smith, the general interest news program that was canceled in November.
But 7 p.m. is not the only lineup change Sullivan announced Thursday.
The 11 a.m. program TechCheck will be replaced by an additional hour of Squawk on the Street, which will be anchored by Carl Quintanilla and Sara Eisen.

“Queer Eye” won Best Structured Reality Program at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday night, September 3. That was no surprise since the show had won for the previous four years in a row, but it was nevertheless historic. “Queer Eye” set a new record for the most victories ever for Best Reality Program (structured or unstructured). Check out the complete list of Creative Arts winners here.
Excluding competitive shows, where “The Amazing Race” is the all-time record holder with 10 victories, “Queer Eye” and “Shark Tank” were previously tied for the lead with four trophies each, and now “Queer Eye” stands alone with five. In fact, those two shows account for every single Emmy won in the Best Structured Reality Program race to date. That category was created in 2014 to differentiate shows that “contain consistent story elements that mostly adhere to a recurring structured template” (structured) from shows that “contain story...

“Queer Eye” is the front-runner to win Best Structured Reality Program at the Creative Arts Emmys this weekend, according to the combined predictions of over a thousand Gold Derby users. That would be no surprise since the show has won for the last four years in a row, but it would be historic. No reality program, structured or unstructured, has won five, so “Queer Eye” would be setting a new record. Check out our complete Creative Arts racetrack odds here.
Not counting competition programs, where “The Amazing Race” holds the record with its massive 10 wins, the lifestyle makeover show “Queer Eye” and the entrepreneurial “Shark Tank” are tied for the lead with four victories apiece. Those two shows account for every single Emmy won thus far in the Best Structured Reality Program race. Blue Bloods is ready to kick off Season 13 in a wild way.
CBS has revealed the official synopsis for the drama’s premiere on October 7, which promises some unique storylines.
A major one is Frank and Archbishop Kearns (Stacy Keach) going “undercover” to see how the city works. That may end up putting them in danger.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Jamie take on a domestic violence case only to run right into an investigation by Danny and Baez that can cause some conflict.
Also, Erin is preparing for her run for Manhattan District Attorney, which coincides with a reunion with ex-husband Jack.
On top of all that, Joe Hill will be back as the drama prepares for another great year of the fun fans expect.

NBC is leaving the island.
The broadcast network has canceled Million Dollar Island, a big-ticket reality competition series, ahead of production.
The series, which was announced in March, was understood to be in the casting phase before it was shelved. It joins series being shelved such as Turner Networks’ The Big D, which was pulled by Warner Bros. Discovery a couple of weeks ahead of its premiere.
It’s understood that one of the factors behind the decision was the show’s budget. Million Dollar Island is a Survivor-esque competition format that will see 100 contestants compete over 50 days for the chance to win 1 million.
It follows the news that NBCUniversal unscripted chief Jenny Groom is leaving the broadcaster amid a shake-up in its alternative team that is expected to see former Turner Networks exec Corie Henson replace her.

Summer is about to finally, blessedly be in full swing. And to honor the occasion, Hulu is showing up big with its list of new releases for June 2022.
Hulu is bringing two major TV titles to its stream this month. The first is The Orville: New Horizons on June 2. Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi/comedy started as a simple Star Trek parody on Fox before blossoming into its own entirely sincere space adventuring beast. Now “New Horizons” promises to be a fresh start for the series on Hulu. Next up is Only Murders in the Building season 2 on June 28. Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

Comedies and dramas traditionally make up a large portion of the broadcast TV landscape between September and May, but networks don’t deny the continuous draw of hit reality TV and competition shows. Each season, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, the so-called “Big 4” broadcasters, bring back old staples and add in new unscripted content in hopes of topping each other outside of their sitcoms and procedurals.
While there could always be slight adjustments to season-long averages by the end of the traditional broadcast season in a few weeks, Variety has gathered Nielsen’s “most current” data through May 8 to rank ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox’s highest and lowest-rated unscripted series among adults 18-49.
Below are the lists, which count 33 completed weeks of the soon-ending season. These ratings are averages for the unscripted shows’ respective seasons and based on a week’s worth of delayed viewing, where available. The lists...

Friday saw WWE’s Friday Night SmackDown on Fox pin the demo wars, scoring an 0.5 to easily top the night’s field.
The show was highlighted by superstar Ronda Rousey’s first in-ring appearance on the blue brand, as she confronted current SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair ahead of their much-anticipated match-up at WrestleMania 38 on April 2.
At ABC, the special Putin’s War: The Battle To Save Ukraine came in with a solid 0.4, with its trailing 20/20 newsmag also coming in with an 0.4 for its portrait of disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes.
CBS saw Undercover Boss slide in with an 0.4, as US Cellular boss Laurent Lt Therivel was featured incognito with his company’s associates. That didn’t help the trailing Magnum P.I., which slumped to an 0.3, before the network rebounded with an 0.4 for Blue Bloods to cap the night.

There was something for everyone this Friday night, and that’s reflected in the demo numbers. ABC’s Shark Tank, Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown, and ABC’s 20/20 recap of a family’s murder by antifreeze all tied atop the stack with an 0.5.
At NBC, the return from hiatus of The Blacklist brought in an 0.3, buoyed by a pickup this week for a 10th season. However, the show has just one more episode, then goes on another hiatus, hopefully brief. The trailing Dateline examined the mysterious Mother’s Day disappearance of Suzanne Morphew in Southern Colorado, which drew an 0.3.
At CBS, Undercover Boss brought in an 0.4, as Round Table Pizza CEO Paul Damico was reduced to emptying the grease trap, the worst job in restauranting. New episodes of crime dramas Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods continued steady at 0.4.
