Superhero movies aren't for everyone. There are many actors who have donned capes, cowls, and spandex, later admitting that they didn't enjoy the experience and wouldn't do it again.
However, only a small handful of performers have returned to roles they hated.
Some did so because they were contractually obliged. Others, meanwhile, wanted a second chance or were offered enough money to swallow their pride. Then, there were those who were seemingly gluttons for punishment and didn't know when to say "no." All of them are featured here.
To find out who falls into the categories above, all you need to do is click on the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

Hugh Jackman will be returning to the role of Logan a.k.a Wolverine and will be making his MCU debut with the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor shares the screen with Ryan Reynolds and it will be the first official appearance of mutants in the MCU. Jackman was last seen in 2017’s Logan, after which he retired from the role.
Since the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped, fans have been speculating which variant of Logan Jackman will be playing. The trailer hinted at Wolverine being from a universe that let his world down and Jackman can be seen being regretful for the wrongs he has done. While fans speculated if he played the Logan from X-Men ‘97, an industry insider had a different answer.

Deadpool isn’t typical horror fare, despite the franchise potentially being the bloodiest throughout the Marvel kingdom..
And look, the guy’s divisive! For the average person, the 2016 movie Deadpool may have been their introduction to the character, with Ryan Reynolds giving the titular character an abrasive, dirty sense of humor that some might place in the edgelord category.
But the character was spawned from a comic book series that’s changed hands a number of times and continues to this day. Naturally, that means there are several different interpretations of the antihero formerly known as Wade Wilson, including some that dial down the chimichanga jokes (a common fandom shorthand for the Deadpool of the comics’ baser comedy instincts).
This week on Guide to the Unknown, Kristen and Will discuss the good, the bad, and the unfortunate of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. They also learn about some of the comic storylines...

Dark Matter releases on Apple TV+ on May 8th, 2024.
The Multiverse is undeniably dominating the world of pop-culture. With Everything Everywhere All At Once sweeping the Oscars in 2023, Spider-Man: No Way Home bringing fan favorite web-slingers back to the big-screen and The Flash… well, perhaps it’s better not to talk about that one. Audiences fascination with the multi-verse has slowed down in 2024. Deadpool and Wolverine is set to “save the MCU” by bringing the Merc with a Mouth into the biggest cinematic universe in history and teaming him up with Hugh Jackman’s highly celebrated Wolverine; however, the multi-verse isn’t exclusive to superhero levels of extravagance.
Dark Matter uses the endless possibilities of parallel universes for deeper exploration. The new series, adapted from the 2016 novel written by Blake Crouch — who also acts as an executive producer and writer here — utilizes the sliding doors theory to tackle elements of love and regret.

Have you ever given thought, to which of Steven Spielberg’s works could unite the creative minds behind X-Men ’97 and the very creator of Deadpool? Not to give away too much of the suspense, but it is none other than the dark and cerebral science fiction drama Minority Report.
The film, starring Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell, was so brilliantly shot and inventive that even Deadpool’s Rob Liefeld, who ranked it among his three best Spielberg experiences, tweeted his admiration for it. Liefeld empathized with those who found the film “too dark”, a sentiment shared in his circles at the time of its release.

Yet, in a harmonious agreement tagged with insights and nostalgia, X-Men ’97 writer Beau DeMayo chimes in with a solid “hands down agree”.

Has there ever been a more bonkers superhero than Deadpool? Equal parts violent and zany, this lethal mercenary, also known as the "Merc with a Mouth," first appeared in the "New Mutants" comic series in December 1990, albeit as a villain. Created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson) went on to star in his own mini-series. He eventually gained notoriety for his dark humor, meta-commentary, and affinity for breaking the fourth wall. Over the years, Deadpool has teamed up with or battled alongside Marvel's hero gallery and has since become one of the brand's most popular characters. In fact, according to Gitnux Marketdata Report, he's the most liked character on Facebook. So take that, Iron Man!
The release of 2016's "Deadpool," starring Ryan Reynolds as Wilson, further cemented the character's popularity. Uniquely, this was the actor's second stint in the role, though the less said about his...

The rumour mill continues churning out possible Deadpool & Wolverine cameos and, if we're not careful, disappointment will soon follow.
While the upcoming threequel is bound to feature some massive surprises, we've already seen what happens when fans set their expectations too high. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness included appearances from Professor X, Black Bolt, and Mister Fantastic, but even that wasn't enough for those who went in hoping to see Spider-Man and Tom Cruise!
Dafne Keen played X-23 in 2017's Logan and there have been rumblings for a while now that she'll suit up and reprise the role in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Asked about that in a recent interview, The Acolyte star chose her words carefully. "I mean...I can’t wait. The trailer looked incredible!" Keen responded, largely dodging the question. "This is all really crazy and I’m looking forward to seeing it."

James Cameron gave one of the biggest blockbusters ever with the disaster epic Titanic. The film, which was a love story set during the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, was the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by his own film Avatar. Cameron’s film became a pop cultural milestone for its depiction of the disaster and has become one of the most adored romances.
While Cameron has delivered blockbusters that have been great pieces of art, he is known for running a tight ship on set. Many stories have come out of his autocratic behavior and his long schedules without breaks. Titanic actor Bernard Hill mentioned that he used to be very hard on actors and crew members who did not give their full potential for the film.

Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man shepherded the MCU in its first three phases, leading the Avengers and being one of the leading heroes that catapulted the franchise to its peak. His journey from an arrogant and flamboyant billionaire to a selfless hero who sacrifices his life for the greater good has made him the most iconic character in the franchise.

A new Deadpool & Wolverine IMAX trailer is currently playing in theaters and a must-see clip from that has found its way online this evening.
First, we see Wolverine telling Wade to put his mask back on while they grab a bite. The Merc with the Mouth points out that it's hard to eat while wearing it, leaving Logan to counter by bluntly stating it's harder for him to keep his food down while the Merc with the Mouth has it off.
We later see the title characters approach Giant-Man's massive skeleton, prompting Deadpool to say it looks like Paul Rudd has finally aged.
It's a fun meta-joke and a reference to the fact the Ant-Man star notoriously doesn't seem to grow older as the years go by. Whether this joke will make the final cut remains to be seen, particularly as gags like these are sometimes only used in trailers.

Is Marvel combatting superhero fatigue by incorporating aspects of classic cinema? Not yet apparently, but Ryan Reynolds seemed very interested in doing so at one point. Speaking to Empire for a cover feature on “Deadpool & Wolverine” in next week’s issue, Reynolds told them his first pitch to Kevin Feige for the film was a “‘Rashomon’ story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together, but told from three completely different perspectives.”
For context, “Rashomon” is a 1950 Jidaigeki drama from Akira Kurosawa that was the first Japanese film to receive international acclaim, winning the Golden Lion at the 1951 Venice Film Festival, as well as an Honorary Oscar in 1952. The film tells the story of how a samurai was murdered, multiple times through multiple vantage points. Its plot has been repurposed in a number of films and television series over the decades including “The Outrage,” “Courage Under Fire,...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is currently the most important MCU release for several reasons. The movie is generating incredible amounts of hype due to being the movie that brings Deadpool to the MCU, having Wolverine and lots of cameos in it, and being the MCU’s first “R” rated movie.

Ryan apparently wanted to make a large-scale movie in a small way, and it wasn’t something that Feige had seen being successful.

It was a Rashomon story about Wolverine and Deadpool and something that they got into together, but told from three completely different perspectives. It was a way to make a large-scale movie in a very small way. I went back to the drawing board, and I wrote up about 18 different treatments.

Having a good Cinco de Mayo? I am! That’s because a new Spanish Deadpool & Wolverine poster hit this weekend!
Phase Zero – MCU via X posted the new official art for the upcoming Fox Marvel / MCU crossover film. Vaya con Dios, indeed!

I’m very ready to have a religious experience with Hugh Jackman and Morena Baccarin. At the same time!
Great! Now, all I can think about is that Estus Pirkle clip in which he asks viewers, “Will you come?”
It would be funny if the last 30 minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine turned into an evangelical propaganda flick that asked the audience to turn away from the materialism Disney and Marvel bank on.
We all know that even Ryan Reynolds’ star power couldn’t pull off a gag that big, sadly. Regardless, the last trailer...

‘Furiosa’ Composer Tom Holkenberg aka JunkieXL Teases Score with First Single, ‘Dementus Is Gaining’
We can already feel our theater seats shaking. This past Friday, “Furiosa” composer Tom Holkenberg (aka Junkie Xl) dropped a taste of his upcoming score for the film with the single, “Dementus Is Gaining”. The propulsive electronica track features a familiar trance-like beat that incorporates the sound of revving engines, but also has a noticeably more haunting quality than that of the score for “Mad Max: Fury Road”, implying a prequel that may have more of an emotional bite than its predecessor.
“My collaboration with the incredible George Miller began over a decade ago with our work on ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ a project that marked a pivotal moment in my career as a film composer,” says Holkenberg. “Returning to this world to score the odyssey of ‘Furiosa,’ an epic tale of survival, resilience and revenge has been just as eye-opening and gratifying. ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ is a...

With X-Men '97 in full swing on Disney+ and Deadpool & Wolverine fast approaching, will Marvel Studios soon pull back the curtain on WandaVision follow-up, Agatha?
That's the prevailing theory because the profile picture on WandaVision's social media accounts has just been updated with a splash of familiar purple. It doesn't give us much to go on, though we'd say there has to be some significance to this when Agatha Harkness remains trapped in Westview thanks to the Scarlet Witch!
We'd caution against getting too excited about an imminent reveal because it's previously been reported that Agatha is aiming for a September launch. Disney+ has also developed a frustrating habit of promising its MCU offerings surprisingly close to their respective premieres.
Despite it feeling like we've been waiting a long time for the series, things appear to be going well for a spin-off which has previously been dubbed "Agnes of Westview,...

After the tremendous revelation of all the superheroes and villains coming back and debuting through Deadpool & Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the latest reports are now suggesting that Channing Tatum’s Gambit will not only make his first live-action appearance through it but will also apparently fight a diabolical villain in the movie. But he won’t be alone through this.

As it seems, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra will be returning to the screens and joining the forces as well, and will reportedly be seen fighting side-by-side with Tatum’s mutant against this big bad. Then there are all the other superheroes reported to appear in the film, who are all expected to overpower this villain, who is none other than Cassandra Nova and her reported supervillain league.

After being handed out to attendees earlier today, an official version of the Ccxp Mexico Deadpool and Wolverine poster has been shared online.
The new artwork leans into the Wade Wilson's "Marvel Jesus" delusion, depicting the Merc With a Mouth (with Dogpool), Logan, Vanessa, Colossus and Blind Al on some church candles.
In addition, we're hearing that a theatre-exclusive version of the recent full trailer features some new dialogue, with Deadpool making a Paul Rudd age joke when the Giant-Man helmet visor raises to reveal Scott Lang's skull.

Spider-Man finally made his cameo in X-Men ’97. The web-slinger was seen in the latest episode of the X-Men revival, swinging through New York City, as Magneto’s global Emp shut down the power grids of the world, plunging humanity into the dark ages and depowering every Prime Sentinel in the world.

Deadpool 2 revolved around the Merc with the Mouth's unlikely friendship with Cable, while Deadpool and Wolverine will put the spotlight on...well, the title gives it away!
There's been some confusion about Cable's absence given his use of time travel and Josh Brolin has said on multiple occasions he's not set to appear in the threequel. Now, though, the Dune: Part Two star seems to be hinting that he is the movie!
Interestingly, reshoots are currently taking place with the main intention being to add more cameos to Deadpool & Wolverine. Could that be what's led to Brolin's apparent return as Cable?
"I don't know where it puts me. I'd like to know, though, because a lot of people are asking. Was I there? Did I forget?" the actor teases in the video below. "You know, Ryan Reynolds hit me up the other day and he said, 'Congratulations on Dune.

2023 was not a good year for Disney at the box office. With the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, their films lost money according to Deadline’s”2023 Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament” list by Anthony D’Alessandro. ‘Guardians 3’ was just barely in the top 10 as it was in 9th place. To put this into perspective, tenth place was a “Paw Patrol” film.
In fact, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie beat all the Disney films and “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” which was released theatrically and on streaming simultaneously.
Four Disney films flopped, and ‘The Marvels’ was the biggest loser. Of the bottom five films, only’ The Flash’ was a non-Disney-owned film.
‘The Marvels’
According to Deadline’s estimates, the film lost $237 million, but that is after you add in home entertainment and TV/streaming numbers. That is a lot of money to lose! It would have been worse without Home video and TV/streaming revenue.

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97.
X-Men ’97 head writer and producer Beau DeMayo has recommended a slew of material for audiences to watch and read in preparation for episodes to come, which usually point towards what fans can expect from the show in the coming weeks.
X-Men’ 97
This week’s recommendations came in the form of the X-Men story Fatal Attractions, certain plot points of which have already been set in motion in Episode 8 of X-Men ’97. We saw Magneto declare war on Humanity, and Professor X appears in the nick of time to assemble his X-Men to fight whatever the Master of Magnetism has in store.
However, if these plot points lead to the same end destination that the comic book does, fans might be in for one of Wolverine’s most brutal scenes from the comics.

With great reviews, tons of publicity, and two more-popular-than-ever movie stars in the leads, The Fall Guy should have kicked the summer 2024 box office off in high style. Indeed, Hollywood was expecting a $40 million opening (we expected a more modest $35 million). Still, according to Deadline’s early numbers, The Fall Guy looks like it won’t even crack the $30 million mark. This is a bad opening for a mega-budget action movie and seems to be further evidence that movie stars – as we used to know them – don’t exist anymore.
Think about it. Is there any actor or actress who can guarantee a movie “opens”? It used to be that people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, and a bunch of others were considered “bankable” in that having them in your film was basically “money in the bank.” There’s not really anyone like that left anymore,...

Between the trailers and the various character cameos, we've been able to get a pretty good idea of the general premise of Deadpool and Wolverine, but it sounds like Marvel Studios has been keeping some fairly significant plot points out of the marketing.
Now, Zazzle.com has included a new synopsis with its range of tie-in products, and it reveals a few exciting new details about the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut.
If you'd rather go in knowing as little as possible, here's your spoiler warning.

Have you ever wondered what might happen if the DNA of two of the most vigorous characters in the Marvel Universe came together? Although Wolverine is widely recognized for being a recluse, nomad, and man who would be better off without romance, Logan’s numerous offsprings demonstrate that his lethal abilities are too great to be limited to a single generation.
Although many X-Men fans still have a soft spot for the original films, one of the main criticisms leveled is that they seemed to focus more on the two lead actors in each series than on the actual X-Men. The earlier flicks functioned more as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, while the later ones functioned more as Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that while fans genuinely adore these two characters off-screen, the same cannot be said for their son.

The "X-Men" film franchise was one of the superhero genre's first bonafide success stories. After debuting in 2000 to decent reviews and solid gold box office, Marvel's mutants added a new level of legitimacy to comic book adaptations on film and provided a runway for other characters to make it to the silver screen. It's a shame, then, that a franchise once emblematic of its genre's greatest potential has since succumbed to its worst qualities: overcomplicated canon, problematic players behind the scenes (his name rhymes with Shmyan Shminger), and corporate interests milking spin-offs for all they could be worth, even as the udders run dry. If it weren't for the Disney-Fox merger and Marvel Studios' plan for mutant integration into the MCU, the "X-Men" franchise would be as close to dead-in-the-water as you can be.
In fairness, the X-Men became friendly with development hell long before its first film. There's just...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the most anticipated and the only Marvel cinematic release this summer. The movie is special due to plenty of things. First, it’s supposed to bring Deadpool to the MCU, second, restore some faith in the studio, and lastly, it’s going to showcase plenty of characters from the original Fox’s X-Men franchise.
But the plans for the original ‘Deadpool 3’ were different initially, and Hugh Jackman didn’t always plan to join the Merc with the Mouth in his latest adventure.
Hugh Jackman revealed in his interview with Empire, that he was discouraged from returning to the franchise by Fiege himself due to the way ‘Logan’ ended and the character departing on a high note.

Hugh Jackman has done wonders for the big screens, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon despite nearing his late fifties. Besides fulfilling millions of fans’ wishes by returning as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, he seems to have another action project lined up, though this time, it is reportedly with Jodie Comer and filmmaker Michael Sarnoski.

And yes, after his dear friend Russell Crowe left behind the mantle following the mixed reviews his 2010 movie on Hood received, Jackman is seemingly picking it back up for his version of Hood. That said, he might as well end up righting the wrongs of the 2010 film with a Logan-like movie on the legendary outlaw hero.

Giancarlo Esposito has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but not as the character he's been campaigning to play over the past few months.
The actor has expressed interest in taking over from Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as the next big-screen incarnation of Professor Charles Xavier on several occasions, although he wasn't too keen on one particular aspect of the character.
"I've given it a cursory glance in my brain, and immediately I go 'Hmm,'" he said during a recent interview with Fade To Black . "'[It would] be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation than just the wheelchair. Right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don't feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much. But certainly, we could figure something out maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the...

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses plot elements from “The Fall Guy,” now playing in theaters.
Long before Taylor Swift embarked on the Eras Tour, director David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick had the idea to use “All Too Well” as a key moment in “The Fall Guy.”
McCormick, a self-professed Swiftie, and Leitch were trying to find a fresh and contemporary song to fit into a particular scene.
In the film, Ryan Gosling plays Colt Seavers, one of Hollywood’s top stuntmen. After experiencing an on-set accident, he falls off the grid for 18 months, ghosting aspiring director Jody (Emily Blunt), someone he also happens to be dating. The two awkwardly reunite on the set of her directorial debut, and when they wrap their first day, Colt retreats to his pickup truck reflecting on happier times with Jody.
McCormick thought a Swift song would be perfect for that scene, and even Gosling agreed.

Why ruin a good thing? That was the question facing Hugh Jackman when asked to be a part of the third Deadpool movie after achieving a satisfying farewell in 2017’s Logan.
Even Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige wasn’t sure a Wolverine comeback was the right move.
“I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh. Don’t come back’,” Feige recalls in an interview with Empire. Feige said Jackman “had the greatest ending in history with Logan. That’s not something we should undo.”
The 2017 film was a perfect swan song for Jackman’s Wolverine, a conclusion that satisfied Jackman and fans.
In the same Empire piece, Jackman said he went on a long drive to clear his head and think about the project. “I drove for another hour. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I got out of the car, called Ryan (Reynolds), and said,...

It’s been nearly twenty-five years since Hugh Jackman strapped on the adamantium claws for the very first X-Men movie back in 2000. He went on to play Wolverine in eight different movies, but to the disappointment of fans, he has never worn the character’s distinctive costume from the comics… until now.
At long last, Hugh Jackman will finally wear a comic-accurate costume in Deadpool & Wolverine, and the actor told Empire that he can’t believe they’ve never done it before. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman said. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.“
As Jackman mentioned, the closest fans had...
