VIEWS ON FILM review of Love Triangle Nightmare

Warning: Spoilers
Love Triangle Nightmare is directed by Roxanne Boisvert. Let me rephrase that. Love Triangle Nightmare is shoddily directed by Roxanne Boisvert. What we have here is a blueprinted Lifetime film with all the compulsory bells and whistles. And when I mean bells and whistles, I don't mean the attractive ones.

Love Triangle Nightmare is not really about a love triangle. It's just not. I mean maybe in the first half hour. The title is misleading as it's more about a nutso doctor who must have a woman who is on the verge of divorce. One or two red herrings aside and a tawdry flashback, the doctor in question (Jake played by Jeff Teravainen) is pretty much the antagonist before "Triangle" hits its second act. He's also a real cheeseball, a borderline goof, and not nearly menacing enough.

Hardly compelling and wrapped up rather quickly as if the studio gave helmer Boisvert time constraints, Love Triangle Nightmare revels in bad dialogue, soap opera-style acting, foreseen fluff, and plenty of stark coincidences (people seem to always run into each other hint, hint). Above all else, "Triangle" feels so small-scale even in the scope of the Lifetime Network. Oblivious to the viewer who knows better, it does just enough to get by (and obviously that's not enough).

There have been thousands of Lifetime movies that have gone down the pike, thousands. After decades of this stuff you'd think the long-running grapevine would bring something more fresh and intricate than the patchwork that is Love Triangle Nightmare. Every scene and climatic moment seems cut ever so quickly as if to say, "we didn't have the budget or chutzpah to do something more, sorry". "Triangle" stars Teravainen (mentioned earlier), Glenda Braganza, and Tomas Chovanec. On screen they look totally befuddled as do we the audience. Obtuse "triangle".

Predictable
orkneyislander28 June 2022
No twists or surprises in this one so it would be difficult to write up any spoilers even if worth mentioning. Unrealistic scenarios and behaviours and marginal acting. Forgettable.

Meh, ok....
Chartreuse121 June 2022
Brittany is on the verge of getting a divorce from her husband, Austin, and ends up going with her co-workers to a spa where she bumps into handsome Jake. She keeps bumping into him and trouble follows. What sort of trouble? You will have to tune in but this is a very predictable movie and for a thriller, I wasn't thrilled. Skip it.

TOTAL DISASTER!
Hclambake14 July 2022
Run, don't walk, to your TV remote to change the channel as soon as you see this disaster on the screen. Totally awful. The one star I gave it was far too generous. These so-called actors definitely need the work, it seems.

Watchable even if boring.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not great, but it's also not the worst of the year. It seems like a filler movie and nothing unexpected happens. I wouldn't call this a thriller or suspense. I always get a kick out of doctors in these movies having so much free time to stalk, harass, and kill yet manage to have time for their jobs with all of their criminal activity undetected. "The Doctor Will Kill You Now" movie was the same way. Why even make him a doctor? Why not a physical therapist with set hours or a different undefined medical "professional," so that it wouldn't be weird if he were never on call, never at the hospital, etc.

The villain's motivation was somewhat weak. The movie could have shown his Norman Bates tendencies a bit earlier than they did. It's also not really a triangle since Brittany isn't portrayed as being torn between the two men. Movies with triangles or psuedo-triangles really should ensure chemistry between the actors/characters. Unfortunately, this movie lacked it thus making all of this hard to buy. We really know nothing of the characters so it's not clear why Jake wants to murder anyone that stands between him and Brittany (she only seems slightly interested in him) or why he would try to frame her husband for murders when the guy is a recovering alcoholic but she doesn't hate or feel unsafe with him. It might have been better if Brittany had the restaurant instead of her friend so her character would have some depth. I don't think she was supposed to be a stay at home mom? Nothing wrong with that, but I think it's strange if a movie shows her gal pals with professional lives but not her. It's like this movie is full of all the tropes but doesn't make them make sense. I am beyond tired of the friends dying. It's pure laziness in 2022. Like the first friend wanted her to give her husband a second (or third) chance, but the blonde friend was literally pushing Brittany towards Jake so WHY DID HE KILL HER??? Just for saying Austin didn't murder anyone? Stalking is obvs wrong, but it would be a change of pace if Jake was just a stalker creep trying to isolate her over killing her support system. I mean, what if due to the stress and trauma, she decided she didn't want a relationship at all? Then what?

Also, to make her husband seem suspicious, the movie had to blow his sobriety. This dude is borderline begging for a chance to make things right, he still loves her, he loves their daughter, Brittany is considering trying their marriage again...but he gives barely any thought to drinking and SHE IS RIGHT THERE??? He mentions he has a sponsor and yet didn't call that person? Why would he kill her friends? Actually the more I review it, the worse this movie gets to me.

Watch it if you find it on, but don't go out of your way. It's not exactly the same, but Til Ex Do Us Part is a better "triangle" movie as is My Husband's Killer Girlfriend.

P. S. One thing I got a kick out of was in the dinner scene with Brittany, Emma, and Jake, I actually own a blouse that looks just like B's. So the fashion was good?

If you want to learn how to NOT act, this is for you.
scarletepilogue6 July 2022
First, I'll say that I usually like more lifetime movies than not; and I also know the acting is usually subpar. However, this movie.....I've never seen such terrible, forced, bland, dry acting from every actor before! This was almost unwatchable bc of that. The actors seemed like they were at first audition or something. Just unbelievable! Other than that, the plot was a typical lifetime drama but worse. The whole movie in general was just a dud. If you want to learn how to not act then that is probably the only reason I'd suggest this.

Absolutely no chemistry with the two leads

Warning: Spoilers
Love Triangle Nightmare

I can't understand why Lifetime keeps putting two totally unlikely people together in romantic relationships as the male and female leads in their movies. This big, tall guy and tiny unattractive woman (several times I was truly afraid her big eyeballs were going to fall out of their sockets the way she kept rolling them around) who was at least a foot shorter than him had zero chemistry and therefore were impossible to take seriously which ruined the entire movie......not that it was anything good to be able to ruin. It was bad from the beginning and totally uninteresting and over the top with the plot holes and contrivances. I guess LMN thought they needed a new and different sick obsession for their resident psycho character - in this case, a dead mother fixation. How utterly boring!

And of course, he had to kill both her good friend and bad friend and frame her husband for the good friend murder - all just to free her up to be his and only his, and because the two friends knew too much. As if she's the only woman in the world and he has no chance to simply find someone else without all the baggage. No - it just had to be her and her only, even though she basically thought of him as just a friend and wasn't sure she wanted the divorce from her husband.....not to mention how mismatched they were as a couple.

The husband was almost as bad of a match to the main character as the psycho villain was. So no chemistry with them either. This is becoming the norm - no chemistry between the lead characters - in the last five or six LMN movies that I've fought to sit through.

The writer is Andrea Canning - the Dateline reporter - who seems to be enjoying a dual career since this isn't her only Lifetime movie she's written. So she's raking in the money while foisting this convoluted juvenile crap on us unsuspecting viewers.

Grade F - 1 out of 10.

Needy and creepy
rhonnie-4313920 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was frustrating. The signs are in front of this lady who plays the lead and she acts like a fool over a man who is a stranger to her. She came across as clueless and dumb. But most of the Lifetime movies are silly. I guess I watch them to see if they will get better.

Anyway, back to the signs that the guy pursuing the lead actress is a weirdo stalker. After he kills her bff because he thought the friend was the reason he could not get the woman to date him, he shows up at the funeral uninvited and again asks the woman to go out with him. Totally weird because I don't think he knew the friend. The lead actress even comments on that yet she still agrees to go out with him. Inappropriate, and by the way, she is not yet divorced from her husband.

The weirdo guy comes across as desperate and needy. After the husband shows up because he actually knew the friend, strange guy pretends to leave but stays to stalk her and listen in on her conversation with her husband. Throughout the entire movie weird guy turns up everywhere she goes. So he is basically in most of the scenes. But the lead actress unbelievably acts like she doesn't get it. No one can be that stupid!

Is it possible that Lifetime is deliberately producing movies that make their lead female characters appear stupid or do they think the viewers are stupid? Hmm🤔

Couldn't get through it
pumping_iron-121 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I got through nine minutes of this movie. The acting is absolutely horrendous. The women walked around with that doe in the headlights look. I guess Glenda Braganza (Brittany) is the leading lady. Her acting skills need more work. I never comment on makeup. I am definitely no makeup artist, but her makeup could have been better. This movie was released in 2022. Who in the twenty first century goes running at night without a cell phone. When Brittany was attacked while jogging and she lay on the ground calling for help, I wondered "where is your cell phone." I also thought I knew where this movie was headed in regards to the love triangle. This movie did not draw me in within the first few minutes and pique my interest.

The Doctor Is Out...of His Gourd.
apmulhearn18 June 2022
This movie came with a couple of fun twists and surprises, but was largely too predictable.

The lead actress delivered a very flat performance.

Great to see SwiftySearch is still going strong!

TV Movies may be getting better
Little_Tyke23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For a TV movie, this was entertaining and fast-paced. Sadly, there was a surfeit of victims, but to an extent they brought it upon themselves by not engaging brain. Because, actually, the doctor was too creepy for words and anyone must have suspected him. The doctor's house in the country was also used in another film with Hannah Vandenbygaart. I've noticed before that TV companies frequently use the same props. However, in Love Triangle Nightmare aka Deadly Divorce Party it became obvious that the dear old avuncular doc really had the hots for the cute daughter, so the plan probably was to marry the totally unsuspecting mother, push her down another staircase, then play the role of loving stepfather. And him a famous prize-winning surgeon! Who would have thought it? Anyway, the daughter saved the day in the nick of time and the dastardly doc met his just deserts - even though he said he was stuffed after that big meal they had just eaten. Honestly, TV movies nowadays are so sanitised.

The Prize
lavatch29 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is a very revealing moment in "Love Triangle Nightmare" when Dr. Jake Rich has rented out an entire restaurant for the special occasion of proposing marriage to Brittany Conrad. At the end of meal, the doctor tries to pay Brittany a compliment when he refers to her as a "prize." Brittany is taken aback, as she did not view herself as anyone's prize and she starts to realize that Jake may not be the perfect gentleman she had assumed him to be.

The film was rather predictable in the "psycho on the loose" theme. It was also disappointing that there was so much collateral damage, such as the kind restaurant owner Eva, who made a quick exit due to strangulation. Also, the flighty character of Thea was really starting to get interesting when she was bumped off.

One of the most interesting developments was the intervention of young Emma Conrad, Brittany's daughter. The quick-thinking Emma moves into action to visit the bestie of Jake's ex-wife, whom he unceremoniously pushed down the stairs.

The actress playing Brittany also turned in a solid performance. Brittany was a character who liked to move slowly. She was reluctant to make a snap decision in considering to give her alcoholic husband Austin a second chance. Jake should have recognized that she wouldn't marry him without her divorce papers signed. It was only surprising that Brittany agreed to spend the night in Jake's bedroom during their weekend retreat. If she had done so, she would have been in for the surprise of her life to see the candles, flowers, and shrine devoted to the mother of a psycho mama's boy.

Ummm stupid comes to mind!
haroot_azarian19 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Another typical well below average lifetime movie! So here we have a clueless protagonist, Brittany who is about to get divorced from her alcoholic cheating husband Austin, who incidentally regrets everything and is trying to get his life together through AA meetings. Then we have Brittany's best friend Ava who has nothing but her friend's back who also is a recovering alcoholic and has been friends with Austin since school. Then there is Thea, Brittany's assistant in her interior design business.

So Thea and Ava plan a divorce party for Brittany and while at the resort Brittany literally bumps into psycho doctor death Jake. Thea is madly in love with Austin with whom she had an affair and tries to get Brittany and Jake together so that she can have Austin to herself. Anyway that's the general idea of the movie. But as ususal there were a lot of stupid facepalm moments in the movie i.e. When Brittany on the advice of Ava calls Jake to cancel the dinner for that night and while on the phone to him she responds to Ava out loud thus Jake hatches a plan to kill Ava because she's in the way of him getting Brittany. And the poor soul is then killed by Jake (I didn't want her to die).

Then stupid Thea is desperately trying to tell Brittany about her purposefully arranging the scene at Ava's restaurant. But then she identifies Jake and tells him to his face that she saw his car parked outside Austin's house (the night he planted the evidence in Austin's house). And Jake kills her by faking a suicide.

Seriously Lifetime are running out of ideas. Their rate of decent to good movies to me is at around one in thirty. Watch the movie at your own risk!
