In P-Town, the town council hold their meeting and discuss decorating business. Holden is on the council, and speaks against one of the speaker. The council dismisses the speaker's request, and Trooper Jim Remy comes up and says Burleson was investigating a series of murders where the throats were slashed and their blood drained. Burleson was killed the same way. The council jokes about it, and Remy takes offense. She points out that some of the murders occurred miles from the ocean. The council applauds the state police, and the council head tells Remy that it's a wintertime problem, and by the time spring rolls around, the problem will go away.
Holden tells Remy that if Remy keeps talking, word might get out and drive business away from the town. Remy figures that they're holding something, and Holden says that they know what's best for the community and for Remy. Undeterred, Remy says that she'll continue her investigation and won't be intimidated, and leaves. Once the trooper leaves, Holden says that he'll take care of it.
Later, Holden calls Chemist, Austin and Belle over e, serves appetizers, and tells the two artists that the blood eating and the Pales don't bother them, and the system has held. But the current winter has been out control, and they killed Burleson. The artists say that the Hollywood people are responsible, and they have no decency or self-control. Belle tells Holden that Harry gave the pills to Alma, and she's been on a deadline and hasn't had time to get rid of them.
Holden tells the trio that the council told him to tell them that they have to get rid of the troublemakers or they'll have problems with zoning, which will make life difficult for them. Once he leaves, Chemist asks the other two what the plan is.
That night at the Gardner house, Ursula tells Harry that the script he's written is his masterpiece. He announces that now that spring is coming and he's written five years' worth of stuff, they're done with the pills for good. Alma says that he's being selfish because he's finishes his masterpiece and she can't finish her. Harry takes offense, pointing out all the things he's done for her during the winter. Alma says that he did it for himself as well, and tells Ursula to tell Harry that they don't have to stop and nobody else matters but people like them.
Ursula agrees with Alma, and tells Harry that once he sells his soul, it's gone. She says that success feel likes superiority, and Harry tells Alma that he believes in her and now he can be home with her and her brother. Alma smiles and says okay, and they hug. As they do, Alma looks over at Ursula.
The next day, Harry and Alma return from grocery shopping, and Harry has bought vitamins to help them with the transition away from the pills. He thinks he sees Doris out the window, and Alma tells him to let Doris go. The girl notices that the back door is broken open, and Harry goes to tell Ursula. Harry goes upstairs and finds the baby gone, and a note from Belle saying that she's taken the baby. If Harry isn't at Belle's house by night, she'll hurt the baby.

That night, Ursula goes to the town cemetery and calls to the Pales. When they emerge from the shadows, Ursula tells them that she knows they got a raw deal but they're not monsters. She says that sometimes there are second chances, and she's there to offer them a second chance. Ursula holds up a bottle of pills, and says that there's a new pill that has the same effects as the first pill, doesn't have the side effects, and might cure them. The Pales laugh and advance on her.
Harry and Alma go to Belle's house, and Belle is waiting for them. Austin comes in and locks the door behind them, and Harry asks Belle to let them leave town with Eli. Chemist comes in and figures they'll be back when they want more pills, and Harry says that they're off the pills and he's written enough. Belle doesn't believe him and advances on Eli. When Harry tries to stop her, and Austin drives a knife on him.
Belle says that nothing good has come out of Hollywood. Harry holds Alma back as Austin and Belle advance on them, and Belle says that she's going to kill them. The Pales break in, and Belle kills the first one's throat. Chemist grabs Eli and runs out, while the Pales kill Austin and Belle and feed on them.
Harry tries to run with Alma, and a Pale advances on them. Ursula comes in and shoots the Pales dead, and says that she fooled the Pales. She tells Harry that she would do anything for her favorite client.
Chemist comes in with Eli and hands her to Ursula. Harry tells Alma that she was brave, and they're going to be all right. Alma hugs her father, says that she has to be the greatest, bites his throat, and feeds him. Meanwhile, Chemist tells Ursula that the pills she gave her were old pills that she rejected, and made the user turn on anyone untalented and using. Ursula says that they can set the scene to make it look like Harry killed everyone, and first they need to set up a lab for Chemist in Hollywood so she can make pills for all of Ursula's future clients.
Hollywood, Three Months Later
A Pale wearing a police uniform pushes through a crowd and kills one member. A squad car pulls up and the policeman shoot the Pale dead.
Chemist is watching a newscast about the shooting, which is the fifth such shooting. Each of the dead 0fficers had multiple race-based complaints filed against them. Alma tells Chemist that she shouldn't go after police officers, and Chemist says that they were racist sadistic garbage. The people that know about her formula are the ones who paid her to develop the pills, and they're not going to help the local detectives. Now that she has plenty of money from Ursula and her client list, she can do what she wants and that's sit back and make sure racists get what they deserve.
Ursula is on the phone coming to the house, negotiating another deal. She comes in and Chemist tells her that Eli is with the nanny. The agent says that she's been trawling Starbucks and handing out pills. Chemist warns Ursula that she's creating a lot of Pales, but Ursula says that they need the volume. Alma dismisses the talentless, and says that she's ready to perform. She wants something to eat before she goes, and Ursula tells her that there's a hustler that she picked up, in the pool house.
Alma goes into the pool house and tells the hustler that he's not what she was expecting, but will take it.
Later, Alma is performing her violin. Once she finishes, she takes a bow and leaves the stage. Later, the philharmonic conductor she's auditioning brings in Alma's competition, Rory. Once the conductor leaves, Alma says that she's better than Rory. Rory says that he's a prodigy, and there are plenty of them. He says that she's a novelty and a distraction, and it will become a freak show and Alma is the freak. Alma glares at him.
A few minutes later, the conductor comes in and Alma tells her that Rory went out for a cigarette. The conductor leaves to find him, and Alma picks up the bag of peanuts Rory was eating. She eats them as the conductor finds Rory's body, his throat ripped open.
Later, seminar speaker Jack Krenski is giving a lecture about the Story Prism to screenwriters, and says that drama is life and life is complicated. Krenski introduces Ursula, saying that her clients are launch projects all over. Ursula comes out and tells the audience that greatness has a price, and they have to ask themselves if they're ready to bleed.
Under each of their seats is a case with a pill. Ursula says that the pill is the key to success. Krenski objects, saying that good writers don't need stimulants. Ursula tells Krenski that he's a hack, and knows nothing about screenwriting. The audience says they'd rather listen to her, and Ursula tells them that their choice is the black pill. Ursula tells the audience that success is just one swallow away, and the choice is there's. She hands a pill to Krenski, and the people in the audience take the pill.
Soon the audience members who turned into pales and go out on the streets, feeding on bystanders. Chemists watches them from her car. Eli is in the back, and Chemist tells them that they'll move on and she'll make another pill, maybe one that will let Eli live forever, and Mommy's there. She says that Mommy is there, and drives off.
