The writer and producer Harrison Smith, sent this script to Jack Nicholson. Nicholson's agent contacted him back and said "You know that Jack gets $5,000,000.00 just to read the script, right?" Harrison replied "No I didn't. Thanks, but I think we are good".

The abandoned amusement park is Bushkill Park in Easton, PA. It was flooded out in 2004 during hurricane Ivan and was hit again with floods in 2005 and 2006. The owners were not able to recover or rebuild the park and it remained abandoned for some time which the producers were able to take advantage of for filming the scenes for this movie.
When Pappy and Steven pull up to the milk farm, there's a sign to the left with the word LeHi which is an actual dairy farm in Montgomery County, PA known as LeHi, the Farmer's Dairy.
