Turning the Glass Around Presented by Work/Space Collective Directed by Heidi Grumelot Teatro Circulo 64 East 4th St., NYC October 16-November 1, 2014
Pia Wilson's new play, Turning the Glass Around, interweaves the naturalistic and the theatrical, the rational and the seemingly irrational, and the everyday and the supernatural in order to interrogate other, contemporary American hybridities.
The interracial marriage of Philip and Daina Lee (Don Castro and Carmen Gill) comprises the vehicle for Wilson's deconstruction of "America" and its “Dream” in the tradition of playwrights such as Suzan-Lori Parks and David Henry Hwang. The death of Philip's father, an immigrant restauranteur who loved all things stereotypically American, throws successful businessman Philip into a crisis of guilt and self-doubt. His colleagues have nicknamed Philip “The Asian Tiger” but mock his Korean background behind his back, and Philip’s firing means that he and Daina, a wealthy, well-connected African-American, are soon finding...

Downton Abbey may attract all the accolades and Sherlock might whip the fangirls into a frenzy, but Call The Midwife is actually the best show on the PBS schedule.
The series, set in the 1950's, follows Jenny Lee (elegantly played by Jessica Raine) as she embarks upon a new career as a midwife while living and working in East London. The show not only creates a vision of London so vivid you can smell the soot, but surrounds Jenny with a spectacularly well-rounded assemblage of women who share her passion for civil service.
ETonline caught up with Raine to talk about the show's massive popularity, the pressure of quality control and why, at the end of the day, all you need is love.
ETonline: The first season set the bar quite high in terms of powerful storytelling. How do you feel season two lived up?

Lovebox festival just got a whole lot more provocative...
Us hip hop queen Lil Kim has joined the line-up for the East London music event.
In the first of her announced UK festival appearances in 2013, the 'Jump Off' rapper will play the Sunday night of Lovebox.
On the same bill as Lil Kim is one of the female rap stars for whom she paved the way, Azealia Banks. It will be the first time she has played a show in London since 2001, on her Notorious K.I.M world tour.
Of course, you may not recognise Lil Kim from the days when she had her big break during the '90s. To get up to speed, join us on a surgical journey as we turn back the hands of time on a voyage across Lil Kim's ever-changing face...

This week’s Jim’s Notebook gets emptied out with remnants of my East Coast trip, where I hit the set of Smash as well as New York Comic-Con. But once I landed back in La-la-Land, I was off and running to cover a slew of other TV happenings...
Smash If you read last week’s Notebook, you caught part of my chat with Law & Order: Svu star Danny Pino. The day after visiting Svu on location in Brooklyn, I was off to Queens to spend some time at the set of Smash, where the cast was busy shooting episode eight of the second season.
With new blood coming in like Jennifer Hudson, Broadway’s Jeremy Jordan and a Will & Grace reunion with Sean Hayes and regular Debra Messing, NBC is giving it their all to shape Smash into a, well, smash when it returns, more than likely in January...

Even though we've gotten an endless barrage of casting news and updates over the last few months for writer/director Rob Zombie's upcoming flick The Lords of Salem, it seems as though one cast member may have hopped aboard under the radar.
Last night, after receiving an honorary award for his contributions to genre cinema from the fine folks at the Shockfest Film Festival, Howard was chatting it up with partygoers during the fest's after party and mentioned that he had just wrapped up working on a Rob Zombie movie.
Well, since there haven't been any other recent Zombie films under way, it would be safe to assume that he meant The Lords of Salem, which recently wrapped up production on the East Coast and just resumed in California.
It's interesting that Howard's involvement on the film hadn't been announced yet, but since he's awesome in everything, we're pretty...

Heidi Klum lounged on the deck of a yacht off the coast of Ibiza, Spain with her family yesterday. Heidi and Seal stole a few kisses in the sun, and she was also on the receiving end of a very public and romantic kiss from him during his performance in the city on Friday. Seal planted one on Heidi in the middle of his show, which was also attended by celebrity friend and fan Ryan Seacrest. Seal entertained the intimate crowd and Ryan evidently had a good time too, tweeting that the happy couple are "way too much fun!" After spending the start of the Summer in NYC, Heidi and their kids escaped the scorching temperatures on the East Coast and jetted to Europe to join Seal on tour. The overseas trip is also a relaxing family vacation and Heidi's supermodel figure is ready for a beachy trip since...

Miranda Kerr had baby Flynn right by her side Saturday afternoon for a visit to Santa Barbara. Miranda was sporting a familiar maxi dress while Flynn was adorable in red and white. The pair were in good company as Frankie, her faithful Yorkshire Terrier pup, joined them on the trip north to see friends. Orlando couldn't join his family on their outing as he was on his own journey, biking around their La neighborhood. Miranda recently returned from a trip to the East Coast where she met up with another supermodel, Heidi Klum. The pair went on a jog through Manhattan and it's Miranda and Heidi's dedication to fitness that landed both of them in this year's PopSugar Bikini Bracket. Currently Miranda's locked on to the number four spot right behind Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian and current leader, Halle Berry- be sure to fill out your bracket for...

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian stepped out of their Manhattan hotel this morning in designer ensembles prepped for a marathon day of wedding dress shopping. First up, the sisters made a stop at Vera Wang's Upper East Side boutique before joining the designer at Sant Ambroeus for lunch. Kim's reportedly searching for the perfect gown to complement her 20-carat engagement ring. She's done her fair share of research by checking out the best NYC has to offer. She visited Bergdorf, Barneys, and Bendel's yesterday following her early morning workout session with Heidi Klum. Heidi and Kim also spent an afternoon together last week when Kim filmed a guest judging cameo on the season nine premiere of Project Runway. Kim and Kourtney are on the East Coast for the time being, but they're sending big love to their sister Khloe, who turns 27 today. The family can look forward to being together...

Pahrump - Call it Hof Vegas. Dennis Hof of HBO’s Cathouse no longer wants me to warn readers that his Bunny Ranch empire is in only Reno and not Las Vegas. He’s bringing his style of adult fun to the outskirts of Sin City. He called up the hotline from the middle of Crystal, Nevada to spread the news. The sounds of hammering and drills came from his end of the phone.
“We’re moving around here and getting some things done,” Dennis Hof said. “I bought two 35 year old rundown, rat trap brothels. What you’re buying is the licenses.”
The two old names were Cherry Patch Ranch and Mabel’s Whore House. The new places are Love Ranch and Dennis Hof’s Cathouse. “Those are name that are synonymous with good times.”
There are no good times for the former owner. He got arrested for bribing a county official.

Increasingly, I've found myself telling people-- people I don't even know sometimes-- that I used to be pretty good at sports. Typically, I'll then start talking about beating Matthew Perry--star of 90's hit "Friends" --in tennis, and how I played on the second power play unit on my high school hockey team. The look I always receive when doing this is one of tolerant, disbelieving sympathy. The person will indulge me for a moment or two, and then drift off to somebody else at the party, or begin to feign interest in a piece of Inuit art they found on some table.
It's clear that in terms of physical activity, I've long been living in the past, and this makes me feel pathetic-- like some frail, Monty Burns character rattling on about his underhanded free-throw dominance.
And so, after years of shining lethargy, and then a major surgery in...

Spoiler Alert! If you did not watch last night's episode of Project Runway and do not want to know who was eliminated, go no further. Nothing but spoilers ahead. She may have placed eighth in the competition, but between those nutty clown pants and that hairy catsuit, Amy Sarabi easily wins the title of this season's boldest Runway designer. Here's what the amiable, über-creative gal had to say about her time in Tim Gunn land, which sadly came to an end last night. Entertainment Weekly: I was sorry to see you go last night. How did it feel, watching your elimination episode and reliving it?...

On tonight’s Project Runway… Amy has to step it up. Mila is ready to redeem herself. Maya expresses her frustration at being the only designer to have not won a challenge.
At the meeting with Heidi Klum (when is she going to have that baby?)… The designers learn that they will be getting “into a New York state of mind” for tonight’s challenge. Tim Gunn, along with L’Oreal Paris makeup man, Collier Strong, further elaborates: “Create a look inspired by a New York City neighborhood.” The four choices are: Chinatown, the East Village (or as I like to call it, the “EVil”), Harlem, and the Upper East Side.
The designers must work in teams of two (which we know they all hate), and create two looks (day and evening) on a $300 budget. Names are drawn to pick team leaders, who then choose their partners. The pairings are: Amy and Jonathan.

Expect big changes when new episodes of The Hills and The City start up again on Sept. 29, moving from Monday nights to Tuesdays. The Hills will air at 10 p.m. (Est) followed by The City at 10:30 p.m. (Est). Liz Gateley, senior vice president of series development for MTV and executive producer of both shows, tells People that the new day is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the switch-ups. Most notably, Kristin Cavallari has replaced [1] Lauren Conrad on The Hills. "Kristin has brought new life to the show," Gateley says. "She is the same Kristin we know and love -- not afraid to mix things up. Her presence has really changed every dynamic within the cast, especially with Audrina [Patridge] and Justin Bobby." As for newlyweds [2] Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Gateley says they may be taking another big step in their relationship. "Heidi and Spencer...

Heidi Klum swung by Bar Pitti for lunch with friends in NYC yesterday before joining Leni, Johan and Henry for a walk. She took a few photos of her children to remember the occasion, which would make a sweet treat in Seal's inbox while he is off on tour. Heidi's been on the East Coast since leaving La over the weekend, and now she's enjoying some downtime with her kids after appearing at Tuesday's Cfda Awards. She was among many other blondes at the big fashion event, but she was one of the only stars to accessorize with a baby bump. View 15 Photos › To see more of Heidi and her kids just read more. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt arrived back in La after a quick trip to the East Coast. While the happy couple stayed occupied smiling for the cameras and twittering away, we got to watch Spencer's sweet, "official" proposal to Heidi, complete with a ring on The Hills last night. Meanwhile, there was the usual dose of gossipy lunch sessions, hot outfits, cool gadgets, and flawless hair and makeup. Now that Heidi and Spencer are engaged on the show, we're just a couple of episodes away from getting another look at their gorgeous wedding. View 2 Photos › Npg...
