Has potential. Very nice music.
isabellacheng23 September 2021
While fans might wish to see more of some Visions episodes (The Duel, The Village Bride, The Ninth Jedi), those are as extensions of the stories that's being told on screen. This one, however, on its own already has all the plot elements to become a standalone Star Wars movie. In this regard, Lop & Ocho is my favorite, and it's not even close to my top-rated Visions shorts.

The cultural influence is very, very Japanese. More so than other episodes. But I can see it being adapted to canon without big issues, given that we already have a very Japanese design in The Mandalorian (Chapter 13, where Ahsoka fought the magistrate). Could as well world-build another culture. There are billions of planets in the Star Wars galaxy after all. Lop's character design though might put off some audience.

Lastly, the music and scenery in this short are very nice, especially in the opening and the ending. Film score in "ordinary" films are there only as a backdrop. Star Wars music by John Williams has the quality of being standalone orchestral pieces. The music in this short, while differs in style, has that same quality. I would love to hear more of it if there's an OST coming out of this series.

I have no idea why I liked it this much
mushonadar24 September 2021
This one was weird. I could see how someone wouldn't like it but at the same time I could see how someone would love it. The ending was weird and some of the character motivation and actions were odd... Also the voice acting isn't always on point but that might have more to do with the script... At the same time it had some of the best animation in the series, was interesting and I ended up really enjoying it and even had the weirdest goosebumps.

While I still haven't seen the last episode of the series, this one is currently in the top 3 for me. Definitely recommend 7.5/10.

Not Terrible, But Kind Of Weird
theempop24 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was something, that's for sure. We have a bunny creature adopted into a human family for no reason other than that she is, I suppose? Then we flash forward to seven years later and now her dad is a terrorist and her sister is an Imperial loyalist. Things kind of seem to just happen in this episode, leading one to want to know what happened in those seven years that led to the end of this segment. Plotwise, I couldn't tell if I was invested or apathetic, and development would most certainly have helped me determine one way or the other. Interestingly, I believe this marks the first Star Wars visual media in which a non-human is the lead role (though perhaps Ahsoka's particular episodes in Clone wars count until her spinoff releases). However, as a non anime fan who was watching Visions for 'waifus' I was kind of disappointed that they gave me a furry this episode (though Ocho is fine). That previous statement might be controversial or seem in poor taste, but I call it as I see it (I'm sorry). Anyways, the writing wasn't bad, but as I said, there was so much more I needed to see for me to be very emotionally invested in the family dynamics. The ending was very implausible it seemed, and now I wonder how much damage a lightsaber actually does. (Also random thought: I get that a guy can put on eyeliner or something to be intimidating or whatnot, but who dyes HALF THEIR EAR GREEN?!) The animation was interesting, and there is potential in the plot, but it does not rank as my favorite, second, or third.

Weird characters, good story
luvsspge24 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Loony tunes bunny character with cliché dialogue is my main issue with this. Like the Astro boy one, this just feels derivative of another cartoon character. Story and setting was still interesting though: in a shogun like society, a non-blood family member trying to save her adopted family was compelling to watch and I hope we see a continuation of this episode. I just wished they were more creative with the appearance of the main character instead of copying Looney Tunes.

My favorite episode
josephellis25 September 2021
A story of redemption, family, honor, and love. It combines all these elements perfectly and capture the heart and essence of the star wars franchise. The only flaw is why can the main character use a lightsaber with no training with the Force?

This story was okay. Technically, it had a lot of things going for it. However, I didn't find the plotline or characters all that compelling. Barely better than average imo.

Good Star Wars story
gheataadrian22 September 2021
They managed to do a good story in just 20 minutes. Loved the story plot, the characters, the atmosphere and the visuals. The story has a lot of potential and it deserves more than just an episode.

A tale of a family torn apart by ideology with a main character that seems to have more emotion and character for your own personal investment than the entire resistant did in the rise of skywalker.

Lop & Ochô
kaden_lewis18 January 2022
I don't watch anime. This happens to be the first anime I have ever watched. It has just never appealed to me, but I love Star Wars, so I decided to give it a try.

In this series, the story of an episode is key. It develops the characters in only a few minutes and maintains continuing the story of the episode. This episode did one of the better jobs at it. It had to jump 7 years. We had to meet these characters, know them for 3 minutes, then have to get to know what they were up to for 7 years. It was executed to perfection, it felt like we had known them for multiple episodes. The final battle of this episode was also phenomenal. That and the ending were very emotional. This episode actually ended on an emotional cliff hanger. This was another episode that could have developed into future episodes, but sadly it won't for now.

I didn't know Lola bunny was force sensitive
evoapollo3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok I found out her species was originally from star wars comic from 1978 so there's original trilogy roots in this episode thus getting a higher rating since the creators of this episode knew their lore a bit. The sister was really cool genuine villain looking and was a cool fight didn't expect it to be that good.

One of the best episodes of Visions
chasetmcfadden23 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Definitely my favorite episode. Lop is a great and lovable character, and it was great to see the father see her as a daughter even though they werent related by blood. Giving Lop the blade that was meant for Ocho is a really nice idea. The only issue this episode has was that it didnt have enough time to develop the bonds between the characters or their motivations, but, Im not going to fault the episode for that because I think the writers only had so much time to tell a story, and with that time, they did an excellent job. Much better job than the other episodes in my opinion. (Not to mention, the animation was really good)

I think the dubbed voice of ocho was kind of bad though, I need to rewatch it in japanese

Id love to see this continued as a series, or redone as a whole movie.

Might not sit well with fans

Warning: Spoilers
Experiments are fine but this story's character design is a straight no. Those who thought stories are gonna be deep or rather interesting will be disappointed.

Chibi anime & star wars don't go hand to hand. Despite it being non canon & pretty to look at , it can not hold viewers because Its too small to establish any emotions .

The best animation of Star Wars Visions
brunonhlindo7 October 2021
The animation is perfect, scenarios, soundtrack, Studio Ghibli level, the story is very beautiful and that's why it became my favorite episode, I would definitely like to see more adventures by Lop and TD.

Original Star Wars inspiration, a story about father and daughters.

I got really emotional when the father gave the lightsaber to his daughter, a well built scene. Good dialogue, good symbology.

Also, the overall animation on the city/backgrounds was outstanding on this one (way better than the others I've seen from Visions). Combat was also cool.

It's on my top 3 episodes of Visions, alongside with the first one and the Ninth Jedi. Really well done guys! 10/10!!

Another solid entry to this season.

I particularly loved the scene shared between Lop and her father when he handed her the lightsaber. It felt surprisingly earned and emotional. I actually would have loved this episode bene longer, or maybe the start of a movie/trilogy. The familial stuff was all legitimately fascinating, leading to a Stand-off that was actually compelling and beautiful to look at.

The animation was exceptional as usual, and I thought the character design was nicely done, even Lop. She's a character I'd like to see more of.

All-in-all, great. It's got all of the familial stuff, Force stuff, action stuff and character beats one could want from star wars in my opinion.

Kinda weird, I guess I liked it though?
snakehead-1627823 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had a pretty "wacky" cast of characters that was fun to watch, but kind of pulled me out of the "Star Wars" feel as I was watching. I personally wasn't a fan of the "Jedi" revelation toward the end since I was getting tired of that from all the other episodes, and Lop getting force powers all of a sudden was giving me "Rey" vibes, for better or worse. The animation was top-notch in this episode though!

Like most anthology series, "Visions" is proving itself to a mixed bag. There have been some truly wonderful episodes that I've longed to see more of, some that told their story and left and others, unfortunately like this episode, that I've tired of before its short run time has come to an end.

Having welcomed the Empire to assist with development of their planet, Tao, the natives find their asset stripping methodology controversial and some rebel against their rule. Lop (Anna Cathcart) an escaped slave, meets Yasaburo (Paul Nakauchi) and his daughter Ocho (Hiromi Dames). Ocho instantly warms to Lop and insists that she joins their family. Seven years later, Yasaburo leads the rebellion against the Empirical overlords, which puts him at odds with Ocho, who believes in the Empire's cause. As arguments become war, Lop is left caught in the middle of her adopted family.

Some of these episodes have had impressive artwork or a good story, some have had both, I felt that this episode had neither. Maybe it's something to do with familiarity, this was another episode about a young character, gifted a lightsabre and sent to fight at the behest of an older figure. Another one about a family cleaved in two by the Empire. (Maybe that's all Star Wars ever is...hmm). Either way, this time, I didn't much care for it, nor the open ending that it finished on.

I didn't particularly like the artwork either, it was reminiscent of the Ghibli style, which I'm not a fan of.

Not the worst.
wcparry223 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is one out of only 3 episodes (The Elder, and Ninth Jedi) thay are not absolutely , horribly, stupid and bad. Although the 'anime' element always makes things creepy, that's about the only terrible thing about this episode. That being said it wasn't really Star Wars oh, it just had Star Wars thrown in ia few elements on top of a old style Shogun type endeavor. Lop's character and dialogue were childish, kiddy, and didn't fit in really at all, it felt anti-theme. 5/10 within a series that have mostly all have been negative 10 /10.

Horrible, Violent, and Disappointing
joshdavis-5637211 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Basically a story of shouting family conflict and betrayal, with zero redemption for the family member who turns bad. When Ocho joins the empire, she bites her own thumb and smears her blood as eyeliner to show she has joined the dark side - very gross and disturbing. When she fights her father at the end, she strikes out his one good eye, which is also disturbing. Lop fights Ocho since their father can no longer see, and Ocho escapes at the end, such that there is no redemption of her actions. The only thing interesting thing here is the anime style, but there are 8 other episodes of that so you won't miss much by skipping this one and will save yourself the disappointment.
