My daughter was 13 in 1988, and didn't act like a 16 year old. That common flaw in film is a problem we're stuck with. But once the action began, it got interesting. My wife and I are big fans of Stranger Things and Yellowjackets, as well as other sci-fi/horror series and movies, so I'll stick with this with hoping the plot over shadows the flaw(s). Maybe the characters will grow on us, but 2 came off unrealistic, and not likeable.

Good but flawed

Warning: Spoilers
Has a great start and vibe, kind of like stranger things. A few things frustrated me:
The girls all nonchalant about the sky being flashing pink, but scared of a gun? For crying out loud, its set in the 80s. Everyone, especially the country setting this was filmed in, loved guns and would not have been upset for her to have that for defense. So cringe.
Second, the way the shooting stalled every time they had to talk to each other and get emotional. Typical cliche.
Third, they knock out a big bad guy (unrealistic) and don't take his massive cool gun? Stupid. And again, cliche.
But, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season! Still enjoyable.

Good but rough

I'm a big fan of the Saga comic and I think this was the comic he made before that, but I could never find it (long story short, I didn't read the comic but knew of it for a decade).
The premise is good (like something I would write), but I felt some of the dialog was forced and too on the nose. This episode could have been a 8/10 with a few edits, especially the last two minutes. None of the dialog at the very end mattered and the same effect could have been reached without it. I think that would have made it even more impactful. I will give it two more episodes since that's my cut off for new shows.

Great first episode. Good acting from young, inexperienced, actors. Brian k is kind of a genius. Why didn't Amazon promote this more? The interactions of young kids from widely divergent backgrounds is pretty on point to. They know they are different and stick together. Maybe too easily, but this is what kids do.
Growing Pains and delivers

AMAZING

Absolutely cannot believe this is sitting at a 6.9 rating. This premiere blew me away. It's not often that a first episode of a series that is completely new to me grabs me the way this did. I'm wrapped, can't wait to see more.
