Sidney Drew is playing with the new dictaphone at the office when his friend arrives with two beautiful young girls, so they head out for a spin. Unfortunately, Mrs. Sidney Drew spots them and is very upset. So Sidney hits on a plan to masquerade as his own lookalike, and use the dictaphone to take a call from her at the same time.
It almost works.
Sidney Drew was the uncle of the more famous Ethel, Lionel, and John. He and his second wife appeared in a long series of shorts for Vitagraph, and later their own company, releasing through Metro. Mocking the foibles of the middle class, these were not slapstick, although they relied on Mr. Drews wonderful stage business. While this is not the best of their frustratingly few surviving shorts, it has some great moments and a very funny outcome.
