Williams joined the project when she was just 12 and spent most of her formative years in the character. We’re finally set to get the the follow-on from 28 Days Later and 28 Months Later – with three new films now being planned.
For many, many years following the release of 2007’s 28 Weeks Later, there were rumours aplenty that a third film in the series was going to happen. It would have been something along the lines of 28 Months Later, but for whatever reason – Danny Boyle went off and won an Oscar, for one – things didn’t come together.
It felt like a shame, too. 2002’s 28 Days Later was an intense and successful British thriller that Boyle directed and Alex Garland wrote. 2007’s 28 Weeks Later saw Juan Carlos Fresnadillo take over the director’s chair (co-writing the feature as well), and that too was a success.
However, it’s taken nearly 17 years to get to this particular news story: further chapters in the series are finally on the way.

Exclusive: The Rolling Stones can’t get no satisfaction at FX.
A major series chronicling the band’s glory years has taken “a tumble” out of development with FX amid wider content cuts at Disney, according to the show’s producer.
Andy Harries, CEO of The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures, said he was “regrouping” on the show and having conversations about its future — both in terms of a new home and showrunner.
“It’s not in with FX [anymore], unfortunately,” Harries told Deadline. “It did take a tumble out because of the cutbacks at Disney. It was just too expensive and too ambitious for the immediate agenda.”
He added, “John Landgraf was really effusive about the scripts and ambition for the show, but he just didn’t feel that he was going to be able to get it greenlit in the next two years.”
Harries would not rule out returning to FX with the project,...

For an hour, Finestkind is the kind of movie they don’t make any more, and just when you’re starting to adapt to its gentle, circadian rhythms (which is about halfway through), it becomes the kind of movie they make all the time. Though it just about works, it’s a curious hybrid of emotional felladrama and gangster realism, something writer Brian Helgeland has essayed before, notably with his script for Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River. A few years back, this could have been a Malpaso production too, and it’s not hard to imagine Eastwood in the role played here by Tommy Lee Jones, an awards-friendly supporting role that gives the veteran actor his very own mini-Gran Torino.

New Delhi, June 29 (Ians) Former world number one Saurabh Chaudhary’s return to the winner’s circle was the highlight of the penultimate day while Manu Bhaker also registered back-to-back wins at the national selection trials (5 and 6) for Group A rifle and pistol shooters, here on Thursday.
Saurabh and Manu won the men’s and women’s 10m air pistol T5 trials respectively. On the other hand, Paris 2024 quota winner Swapnil Kusale, notched up the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) T6 winner’s title at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range, here.
It was a tight 49-man qualification round which Saurabh ended up topping with a score of 582, but only by virtue of more inner 10s than the Navy’s Ujjwal Malik and his good friend and Tokyo Olympics mate Abhishek Verma, as the top three finished on the same score.

Disney made it official with an SEC filing after the markets closed Friday, confirming it would take $1.5 billion in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms.
The number came in on the low end of a range provided by the company last month when it released its quarterly earnings. (Read the new filing Here.) Like other media companies, Disney has been looking to trim expenses in the once-fevered streaming arena, and removing programming has been one means of reaching that goal. Rival service Max, the outlet recently rebranded by Warner Bros Discovery, has also drawn scrutiny for shedding a number of high-profile titles, though the removals are part of the larger reckoning with the daunting economics of streaming. The long-promised nirvana for consumers of a nearly endless storehouse of available titles has collided with the reality of how much that costs to sustain, both in terms of technology...

From Paul Lee’s perspective, the streaming boom that led Hollywood to binge on original content has evolved significantly during his half-dozen years as CEO of production company Wiip.
Over the past year, the industry has been through “a moment where the streaming revolution went from a land grab to ‘This land needs to be fertile,’ ” Lee says on the latest episode of Variety podcast “Strictly Business.”
Lee spent a dozen years at Disney, rising to become head of ABC Family and later head of ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios. He’s mostly kept a low profile since launching Wiip in partnership with CAA in 2016.
In its short life, Wiip has scored with such series as HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” and “The White House Plumbers,” Amazon Prime Video’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Apple TV+’s “Dickinson,” FX’s “Pistol” and more to come. In June 2021, South Korea...

David Zaslav is many things, but you can’t say he isn’t a bit of a trendsetter. Almost a full year after the great HBO Max culling of 2022 and the announcement that the streamer was relaunching as Max, Disney’s prepping to do the same exact thing with their own twin streamers.
On May 10, Bob Iger confirmed that by the end of this calendar year, Hulu will become a tile on Disney+, merging one of the oldest streamers on the market (it launched in 2007) with its much younger sibling. It’s a similar move to the upcoming Paramount+ and Showtime merger happening over at Paramount Global next month. And as the merger approaches, Disney is going to the same playbook as those companies by removing content from both platforms, in a move Iger referred to as “part of the maturation process as we grow into a business that we had never been in.

Disney did a little (late) spring cleaning of its streaming services this week, removing several properties from Disney+ and Hulu. Among those that will go on May 26 include some high profile recent shows like “Willow,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Dollface,” and “The World According to Jeff Goldblum.” What makes this troubling for many home viewers who may have been fans (or even stans!) of the affected programs is that, in most cases, there are no Blu-ray/DVD options. In the old days you could always hit record on your Vcr to build a personal library, but it’s not so easy to capture material from streaming—and the whole point of streaming is not needing to do that, right?

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.
As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Dark Sky Films has acquired North American distribution rights to Lola, the science fiction drama from writer-director Andrew Legge and starring Stefanie Martini (Prime Suspect 73, The Last Kingdom) and Emma Appleton (The Witcher, Pistol). The film will be released in early August.
Giles Edwards, head of development and acquisitions at Dark Sky Films, is currently on the ground in Cannes and negotiated the distribution agreement with Yana Georgieva, head of sales for Bankside Films.
Lola is set in 1940 in England, where enterprising sisters Thomasina “Thom” Hanbury (Appleton) and Martha “Mars” Hanbury (Martini) have built a machine, Lola, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future. The device gives them an exciting preview of the world to come, including music by the likes of David Bowie and the Kinks. But with World War II escalating, the sisters decide to use the machine as a weapon of intelligence, with world-altering consequences.

Add Disney+ and Hulu to the list of streamers whose complete slate of original shows and films is no longer guaranteed to be there the next time you go looking for it. According to Vulture, the Disney-owned streamers are set to remove some titles from their catalog as soon as next week. The list of titles includes the high-budget "Willow" sequel series, the Danny Devito-led animated series "Little Demon," and the highly-anticipated yet swiftly canceled comic adaptation, "Y: The Last Man," among others.
While this content purge follows in the footsteps of Warner Bros Discovery's much-criticized decision to make select titles disappear from streaming for tax reasons last year, Vulture reports that the Disney+ and Hulu titles are likely set to resurface elsewhere — a guarantee that HBO Max was slow to make when its content started to disappear. Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more. The "Alien" universe created by director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Dan O'Bannon in 1979 is finally making the jump to episodic television in FX's long-awaited series from "Fargo" and "Legion" mastermind Noah Hawley. The project has been gestating since December of 2020 when it was first announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation by FX Chairman John Landgraf. Not to be confused with Fede Alvarez's upcoming "Alien" movie that's set to eventually premiere on Hulu, Hawley's "Alien" series will be set decades before the original voyage of the Nostromo and will mark the first time that the sci-fi horror franchise has been set on Earth.

Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien has found one of its leads in Sydney Chandler, the network has confirmed.
Back at January’s TCA, FX boss John Landgraf said that the Fargo creator was in pre-production on Alien with an eye on starting production this year. The series reportedly takes place before the days of Sigourney Weaver’s alien fighter Ripley. It’s the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth, 70 years from current day.
Alien brings Chandler back to work at FX, the actress having made her television debut in the network’s series Pistol from director and executive producer Danny Boyle. That six-episode series, which premieres May 31 exclusively on Hulu, centers around the legendary Sex Pistols. Chandler portrays singer-songwriter Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock has claimed Danny Boyle should be “frightened to see” him following Pistol.
The musician has expressed his disapproval of the series based on the band’s rise to prominence, which was released in 2022.
Matlock appeared as a character played by Christian Lees in the Craig Pearce-created series, which was directed by Slumdog Millionaire filmmaker Boyle.
“I’m not happy with it,” Matlock told Metro.co.uk. “I didn’t like the way I was portrayed – nothing to do with the actor but the script. It makes me look a bit wet.
“It comes across as a quasi-documentary but there are so many things that are wrong.”
Matlock said that Boyle “knows exactly what I think” after he ran into Boyle at a red carpet event held for the show alongside bandmate Steve Jones.

Peak TV could be finally coming to an end.
FX’s John Landgraf revealed in his annual tally of original series that in 2022 there were 599 original series, up from the 560 in 2021.
However, he said “we see a strong indication that we’ll see decline in 2023”, while admitting that it’s tough to predict. “That is still my bet, while noting with humility that I’ve been wrong on this prediction twice before”.
One of the indicators that peak TV was coming to an end was a drop-off of new series in the second part of 2022. New series were down 2 from 252 in 2021 to 248 in 2022, a marked change from the first half of the year, which was up.
The Chairman, FX Content & FX Productions kicked off the conversation around “peak television” in 2015 when he said “there is simply too much television.” Today, at his exec session at TCA, he reiterated his belief...
