About two years ago, we heard that Halle Berry had signed on to star in a horror movie called Mother Land, with genre regular Alexandre Aja on board to direct. Last year, the project went into production under a new title, Never Let Go. Last month, Lionsgate unveiled a teaser poster, which can be seen at the bottom of this article, and announced they will be giving Never Let Go a theatrical release on September 27th. Now a tailer for the film has made its way online, and you can check it out in the embed above!

Originally announced last year under the title Mother Land, the next film from director Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Crawl) is now titled Never Let Go, and Lionsgate has released the official trailer this morning. Watch it below.
Never Let Go arrives in theaters on September 27, 2024. The premise for this one looks to be similar to films including A Quiet Place and Bird Box, centered on a small family unit’s struggle to survive within a world gone to hell. There’s a whole lot of snake-like imagery in this first look trailer – jump to 1:44 for a blink-and-miss-it little tease… or check out our screen-grab below – but the threat outside their door is still very much a mystery at this point in time.
All we know is… one touch is all it takes…
Academy Award winner Halle Berry is leading the film’s cast.

Update: A trailer for Never Let Go was shown during the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon today, and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance. Here’s a description of what he saw: “Halle Berry and her two kids are living in a cabin after the world ends. This cabin has a rope/pulley system & they must be attached to you when leaving the house. The monsters/entities (they are very vague on what the threat is but its something that is physical) can’t get you with the rope attached to you and so they (monsters?) are trying to convince one child to doubt the rope safety. They want them to detach and if so, we see that it would put them in grave danger. The kids are twins born in a house that they have never left because of the dangers on the outside. The creatures (which you...

Oscar winner Brie Larson (Room) whips up tasty meals on TV after being forced out of work as a scientist in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry. Set in the 1960s, Larson stars as Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant scientist who was born in the wrong era. The male-dominated lab where she’s employed stifles Elizabeth’s talent, holding firm to the belief women are only capable of handling subservient positions and are far too fragile and delicate to undertake any actual scientific endeavors.
A chance encounter leads to Elizabeth putting her chemistry skills to use in front of the camera and teaching women not just how to be brave in the kitchen but also in all aspects of their lives.
Lessons in Chemistry is based on Bonnie Garmus’ bestselling novel, published in April 2022. In a March 2022 interview with Penguin Books, Garmus discussed the book’s setting.

Brie Larson has delivered countless phenomenal performances throughout her career, but something tells us we're getting her finest work on Lessons in Chemistry.
Apple TV+ shared the official trailer for the highly-anticipated limited series on Thursday morning, showing Larson as Elizabeth Zott.
Zott is a scientist whose life is upended when, on the cusp of discovering something great, a patriarchal society puts her career on hold.
You can tell from the official trailer that this has a profound effect on Elizabeth because the first half focuses on her trying to make a significant breakthrough.
Hearing that everything you've worked for is being taken away from you must be one of the worst feelings in the world, and just when Elizabeth is trying to bounce back following the controversial decision, she gets quite the offer.

Within the past four years alone, the success rate for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress Emmy nominees who have entered their ceremonies with same-year SAG Award wins under their belts has dropped from 100% to 60%. After being followed by Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”) in 2021, win-lose trendsetter Patricia Arquette might soon be joined by 2023 SAG Award recipient Jessica Chastain (“George & Tammy”), whose Gold Derby Emmy odds are significantly lower than those of her strongest challenger, Ali Wong (“Beef”).
Chastain and Wong represent half of their Emmy lineup’s first-time acting nominee majority, which also includes Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”) and Riley Keough (“Daisy Jones & the Six”). Rounding out the group, which features no former Emmy champions, are category newcomers Lizzy Caplan (“Fleishman is in Trouble”) and Kathryn Hahn (“Tiny Beautiful Things”).
In order to determine the likelihood of Chastain perpetuating said unfortunate trend, let’s take a closer look at each nominee.

Best Actress in a Limited Series
Jessica Chastain as Tammy Wynette in Showtime’s George & Tammy.
The first time Chastain went to an awards ceremony — the 2012 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for The Help — Josh Brolin approached her and suggested she play country singer Tammy Wynette in a movie project he was also interested in joining. Exclusive: Fresh off the series finale of CBS’ True Lies, Omar Miller has entered production in Italy on Naples to New York, an indie based on a story penned in the 1940s by a young Federico Fellini, who was not yet a filmmaker, and his longtime friend and collaborator Tullio Pinelli.
Set in 1949, this is a story of two children who set off on a journey across the ocean, as stowaways on a ship, looking for a family and opportunity in America. Along the way, they encounter characters both well-meaning and nefarious, who cement their faith in humanity. Miller plays George, an American cook on an international merchant ship who befriends our two young Italian stowaways. He’s a gentle giant with great comedic timing, and a strong sense of humanity.
Gabriele Salvatores is directing from his own script, with Paco Cinematografica, Isabella Cocuzza and Arturo Paglia serving as exec producers.

Dominique Fishback is sitting backstage waiting to discuss her latest role, starring in Amazon Prime Video’s “Swarm,” when her ears perk up at a familiar sound: an engine revving.
On the other side of a partition, an audience watches a particularly tense scene from the show’s fourth episode, titled “Running Scared,” when Fishback’s Dre — a murderous super fan of Ni’jah, a Beyoncé-esque pop star — faces down a group of women who stand between her and attending the singer’s concert.
Fishback playfully re-enacts the scene, gripping an imaginary steering wheel and pressing her high-heeled foot down onto a pretend gas pedal that sends her speeding ahead and crashing into Dre’s latest victims. She pulls a funny face and hams it up for a rep’s cellphone camera, unknowingly demonstrating the type of darkly comedic energy that makes “Swarm” so buzzworthy.

Dominique Fishback's normally sweet personality has gotten the axe in Prime Video's "Swarm." Instead, she's embodying an unhinged stan of a Beyoncé-esque artist named Ni'Jah. The new thriller series - from the minds of cocreators/executive producers Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, and a team of writers that includes Malia Obama - stars the 31-year-old as Dre, an overly passionate fan whose obsession with Ni'Jah, the world's biggest pop star, sends her on a peculiar cross-country journey to protect the superstar's good name and reputation. The series also features Chloë Bailey, who plays Dre's sister, Marissa; and "Snowfall"'s Damson Idris, who portrays Marissa's boyfriend, Khalid.
Interestingly enough, Fishback was never the intended lead for "Swarm." According to Vanity Fair, the actor was originally approached to play Bailey's role (which comes as a surprise to the singer who says she "cannot imagine Dre being somebody else"), but...

Between Show Me a Hero, The Deuce, Judas and the Black Messiah and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, Dominique Fishback could have an Oscar nomination and a small pile of Emmy nods on her resumé. She does not.
But Fishback’s stretch as one of entertainment’s most reliable and overlooked actresses should reach a turning point with Amazon’s Swarm, an indescribable new seven-parter from Janine Nabers and, in his first show since Atlanta, Donald Glover. Holding down nearly every second of the horror-comedy/road-trip hybrid, Fishback is scintillating, giving a performance that had me rewatching laugh-out-loud or heartbreaking beats — and probably demands a full series rewatch to see how each piece of new or expectation-flipping information informs each acting decision.
It’s a performance of deliriously bizarre choices anchoring a show of deliriously bizarre choices, and I wish I could be as confidently effusive about Swarm as I am about its star.

Exclusive: Apple Studios has launched its first-ever Apple Studios Directors Program, described as an inclusive, new initiative focused on expanding opportunities for mid-career directors across the U.S.
The six-month program offers masterclasses focused on building and sustaining a career as a working episodic director. The program also will feature discussions with seasoned industry professionals on the craft and business of directing, opportunities to participate as shadowing directors on Apple Studios series, and a “one-of-a-kind experience” in Apple Park tailored to inspire innovation and creativity.
Successful participants will be positioned to direct content for Apple TV+. Three candidates will be chosen to participate in the 2023 program.
Per Apple, the program “aims to uplift and champion mid-career directors in an environment in which every voice is heard and valued. Directors from under-represented communities and women are strongly encouraged to apply.”

Exclusive: Robert Walak and Alisa Tager will be leaving their posts as Presidents of Film & Television at AC Studios, the independent film and TV production studio that sits inside Anonymous Content, when their contracts are up in a couple of months.
Walak and Tager are expected to continue producing projects for AC Studios through an arrangement whose terms are still being worked out.
There are no details yet about the duo’s replacement though I hear UCP veteran Garrett Kemble, who joined Anonymous Content as EVP of Development for AC Studios last summer, reuniting with former UCP President Dawn Olmstead who is now CEO of Anonymous Content, is poised for a bigger role in light of Walak and Tager’s pending exit.
“Alisa and Robert are brilliant producers,” said Anonymous Content Cco David Levine. “It has been a pleasure working with the two of them these past few years to...

“Saturday Night Live” poked fun at the lack of recognizable titles and hit-making movies coming out of the 2020s, shooting at fish-in-a-barrel targets like “To Leslie,” “Women Talking” and “Ginny & Georgia.”
After Bowen Yang came out swinging as a game show host with a snappy tune lauding Hollywood greats like James Dean and Jean Harlow, he introduced the eager contestants for “The Big Hollywood Quiz,” whose roles as a film studies professor (Pedro Pascal), an entertainment writer (Ego Nwodim) and a Hollywood history aficionado podcaster (Chloe Fineman) promised a deep and current knowledge about the beloved industry.
Though the game started strong with references to Hollywood classics like the Bette Davis-led “All About Eve” and the Korean War-set “M*A*S*H,” the so-called industry vets faltered when it came to the 2020s section, beginning with a simple fill-in-the-blank for the current No. 1 show on Netflix titled “Ginny & …”

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live took aim at #PeakTV, and dissed a current Netflix hit in the process.
During a showbiz-themed game show parody featuring contestants Robert, Jacqueline and Mary — played respectively by host Pedro Pascal and cast members Ego Nwodim and Chloe Fineman — Big Hollywood Quiz host Jack Delmar (Bowen Yang) proceeded to ask the players questions about a number of seemingly buzzy TV series. And they whiffed each and every time.
