Definitely not for everyone

Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit when I first watched it I was highly uncomfortable. As the day went on I think I just appreciates the boldness to make that episode. The episode was hilarious even if uncomfortable at times. The end with ally was awesome and of course hilarious when he threw up. Dave keeps pushing boundaries. Love it.

Not the best, but definitely not as bad as people are advertising
gremio-575439 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Man I thought the episode was all over the place, but at the end of the day what we see are two guys that are comfortable with their sexuality enough to do what they do, we got to see the black perspective on how this type of thing is very different for black people, we saw that Dave really cares for Benny for taking him to the doctor and taking care of him, and Dave's selfishness once again for spending the day with Benny instead of his friend on his birthday.

The 2 top complaints here are 1. That the episode was not coherent and 2. That the homoerotic stuff was "out of place." First of all, the episode was very coherent with the character and we got to see into Dave's personal life. As for the second, if you're complaint is that you got uncomfortable watching two dudes being kinda gay with each other non-sexually then maybe don't watch the show that is literally about a guy who raps about his dick.

Odd Direction

Dave S2 is not looking that good so far. The season premiere is pretty average with an award Korean storyline. The second episode. The second one was a bit better, showing Dave adjusting to his Hollywood surroundings and still longing for Ally, but this one is just kinda all over the place. Dave and Benny are hella homoerotic which is funny the first couple scenes but then just kinda gets out of hand. But, I have seen people like this so it's not to far fetched. The Mike storyline is random yet still pretty sad and the Ally scene/ ending just feels rushed and thrown in there. This was a strange one indeed.

Great episode
klperkins0726 June 2021
Most the reviews that are negative are misguided. This episode develops characters and tells a great story. Too many of the other reviews want nonsensical silly episodes instead of grounded, dramatic episode.

This episode gives us a sense of internal conflict a lot of us face between Dave's two groups of friends. How you act and behave with one and being your true self or exposing yourself to another group. Same with Gata and his friend Tone, how Tone feels about Gatas relationship with Lil Dickey. Gives a deep dive in race and how relationships differ between how we view sexuality between the two races. A lot of good, funny, and insightful moments. As a black man I understand the difference of how I may act with white friends vs black friends and what's acceptable. And in my experience, the homo stuff is way more prevalent with the white group; the show definitely maybe exaggerated it some but in high school and college, it was something I definitely had to adjust to.

The TV show Atlanta which is also on FX with Donald Glover has similar themed and toned episodes that explore weird stories or social commentary.

The negative comment come from people who don't want to think or be challenged and just want cheap laughs that don't pay off. Very clear the viewers aren't open-minded or inclusive.

A little risque but still a great episode of Dave

Warning: Spoilers
The first half of this episode was something I don't think any of us had ever seen on television before. It pushed so many boundaries and although I'm sure it will net the episode bad reviews, I thought it was funny and I respected the fact that Lil Dicky was willing to put this out there.

The second half of this episode was just normal dave stuff, but it was really funny (and emotional) and the ending sequence was great.

Overall 9/10.

From favorite to show to complete letdown
10poundsofchicken25 June 2021
I just can't wrap my head around what's going on this season. It's missing the charm, joy, and cohesion from Season 1. I know it's technically early in the season but the story isn't there. I'm still rooting for Gata...please don't mess him up this season like the other orginal characters.

good season, good episode
abfc-684695 August 2021
People are giving low ratings just because they saw two men naked, grow up. I even don't like hip-hop yet this show is amazing to me.

Watch the first season and done
thebluescreen26 June 2021
I loved the first season because it has fun, joy, and silliness while seeing some tough times. I don't know what happened to Dave, but this season is not even going okay; it's just going to let down soooo fast. Characters are acting so weird and dark way. Okay, you guys wanna make it realistic, but it's not funny or even drama. It's just weird random stuff.

May be weird but I love it
boticska25 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I might agree with some of the others that cohesion and energy is lower compared to season 1 but I feel confident that it is a deliberate direction to portrait Dave's procrastination with the album. But I love the drama, love the weirdness. Keep it up!

Not for the straight of heart
helen-terry1 November 2021
I guess dont watch it if you're a straight dude? Lol at all these neg reviews. As a straight chick, I thought this episode was fun and funny and loved that they included a rocksteady song. I think Gata and his friend's reactions would still be fun to watch even if you didn't like what came before.

Good Stuff!!! And Yes, A Bit Uncomfortable For (Most) Straight Guys.
tobias-6244227 June 2021
Get over your discomfort. At least explore it--that's what the episode is asking you to do. If every show made were based on the principal that no one anywhere should be uncomfortable, the quality of programming would suffer. One purpose of art is to provoke, to stimulate, and sometimes to make the consumer uncomfortable. That's a good thing, it can yield growth, critical thinking, and greater acceptance. I prefer not to see a lot of gratuitous violence, gore, or homoeroticism, but I don't completely pan a show just because it has some. The truth is Dave is portraying all kinds of complex human emotions and relationship dynamics that are seldom scene on screen and not easy to convey. And he's doing a darn good job of it.

Jokes dont land, blanco scenes are cringe, Ally's return had no emotion. Very worried about this season. Gata is good tho.

One of the funniest episodes of TV ever. The first 15 minutes were incredible. The story was deep, smart, insightful too, there's a lot behind the curtain.

Why?
shanewhite-1670525 June 2021
Loved the show but this episode was horrific. I made it around 6 minutes in and had enough. The entire thing was not fun but weird and gross. Why even have a episode like this?

Rewatching season one right now so I can actually see a good episode. I see no direction this season and just grossness.

Butt hole and butt head
GameAndWatch16 November 2021
The gross out episode. Yes it's puerile, but there are relatable themes here. Like the bizarre in which boredom and close familial company can bring. There's a complete detachment of reality. At least it's more wholesome than some drug induced psychosis. This episode hung with me like a bad smell. Some of the micro themes are explored and emphasised through the absurd. As others have noted here, people hold many different personas, and the can bring its own friction when mixing company and roles. Some of this is skilfully handled.

Swap out Benny for a woman, and the reaction to this episode would have been totally flipped. People would love it, but the message would then be lost. Best episode of S2.

Garbage
micoj-623352 July 2021
Straight trash. I was an avid fan of Season 1 but this season is a disgrace and handled with no creativity. The writers said "Let's explore the morbid truth to some artists in the industry". Season is filled with condescending characters, uncomfortable scenes, and unnecessary situations. NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS DAVE.

Also everyone knows to make a good television show you need continuity. Fire every writer who worked on this season and hire another team. Trash.

Everything thrown away
rxdrigue17 August 2021
After a promising first run, "Dave" manages to start off a new season in the weakest way imaginable. Through this episode in particular, this show demonstrates its inability to balance out the drama with the comedy. Instead, it delivers high notes of intense unnecessary drama vs. Random moments of the awkward cringe comedy this show is known for. Anything in between is utterly useless as it's all repetitively building towards nothing. In fact, the show seems to have thrown everything out the window but it lacks the proper solid base to do so. Any character development is forgotten as literally everyone has suddenly become so unlikeable & insufferable. How do you expect anyone to stick around after that?

The single worst episode I have ever seen in my life
ykpbpq27 June 2021
This might be the worse media created program I have ever seen in my life. No idea what he was thinking, thinking this would be funny or something straight men want to see. He lost me.

At least we still have Weird Al.

This episode should have come with a warning.
mraiche198027 June 2021
I normally love this show, but this episode was terrible. I like to watch TV while I'm eating dinner.

There was way too much gross-out "humor" in this episode. Even thinking about it makes me want to vomit.

I really hope that this show never has an episode like this again.
