Haunting
planktonrules30 March 2009
This is an interesting tale that may just haunt you a bit when it's finished. It's a short film about a Sicilian woman and the man she loves. The story is told through flashbacks as you see the lady listening in over the shortwave radio to the chatter of the fishermen at work out to sea. As the man talks about his day, you notice that she takes time to send messages one-way to her--assuring her that he's be back soon. During this monologue, you see the lady thinking about when they were young and what it was like when they first fell in love. This part of the story is very well done, as the combination of music and these flashbacks is quite evocative and romantic. After a while, there is a sad but interesting twist that caught me off guard--making this film more than just another romance.

Exceptionally well directed and moving, this film shows a lot of skill and style.
